I'd actually love it if someone DID take the initiative and build a comprehensive galaxy map. It would be nice to have it all in one place. Sadly, digital artwork is not my forte.

I meant the more current day stigma about the topic of homosexuality. Its nonexistant by 2180 as per word of god. I don't see how bisexuality, pansexuality, or even transsexuality would be any more or less of a surprise than homosexuality. I mean, Kaidan is, as far as we know, Bisexual and this is never brought up as strange in the least.

It's certainly something I hope would have been ironed out by then. No need for those stigmas.
I think the ratios would stay fairly close to what they are now in regards to heterosexuality/homosexuality/etc. in the population, though I do think there would be less surprise or shock. I'd imagine most would be used to there being variations within humans from the point where humans make contact with aliens. I think the change in the contrast would place more focus on one's species than one's sociocultural differences, imo. Relatively uneducated guess, though.

And I'd imagine transpeople would, if they decided to seek medical treatment, have much better lives by that point, with hormones and SRS likely quite cheap(and likely much more effective, though still not perfect or anything, considering there are still fertility issues) in the grand scheme of things(if not covered by universal health care, or private insurance).
So I guess, due to this and the reduction of stigma, there would probably be some level of surprise regarding non-binary non-meds&surgery transpeople, if only because the majority of transsexual individuals would likely seek out treatment.

But it's interesting to consider.....hrm...

Is there anywhere I can get a complete updated galaxy map as as it appear in ME 3? I keep getting the ME 1 version in ME wiki and system map if I click on particular names but not shown exactly where it is on the GM. The other way I can think of is to fire up ME 3 and take spictures.

ME3 map doesn’t have everything. There are a few composite maps on DA that I used for figuring out which relays got affected, in which order, etc. Don’t have a link, but do a search.

Edit: you still have to manually look up the systems and planets, though (and even still stuff like the location of Kahje is unknown). I’ve got lots of diagrams on this, but unfortunately that’s one thing I still have been doing with pen and paper…

I should try and see if I can use the tablet with a stylus to do this stuff.

I think he's talking about just the systems in ME3. Either way, it would be difficult to get the complete map since they keep popping in and out of existence throughout the game.

I think they only pop in. It would seem illogical for them to disappear. Only the presence of reapers changes, and I believe that happens only in story related areas such as Krogan DMZ.

Anything can be interesting to consdier when put into terms of Mass Effect.

Before ME1, I would often contemplate where Religions stood by that point, but an Asari in ME2 (I believe the one who starts Samara's Recruitment) bashed that idea a bit by stating that Humans STILL haven't figured out their own religions when discussing how the Alliance might reply to Samara killing a human since its something no Asari would bat an eye about but humans would likely make a huge mess of it.

No, systems definitely stop being available as time goes on, primarily the ones with home planets when they stop being relevant to the story. Having only story-related systems drop out of existence doesn't really change anything, since it would still hinder getting the complete map.

Really? Which ones? I'm currently doing the Rannoch Arc and I can still fly to Palavan and Tuchunka. Not sure about Sur'Kesh though.

I have two side quests on my canon Shepard that are completely impossible to do on my last save before the beginning of the end story. One is on Rannoch (ironically the one that would have allowed me to broker peace between them. Oh well) and the other is some random system that I think is connected to the Krogan DMZ. I'm not completely sure though.

Oh. I'm pretty sure thats not the Systems going out of use but simily a mission timer going out,

The Rannoch Quests have to be completed before Priority: Rannoch and there are a few N7 Questlines that are on a timer, such as the Grissom Accademy quest.

I remember my first playthrough, I didn't find all the info for the Eden Prime people and that mission was active in my Journal for the rest of the game.

No, the systems themselves were not available. I remember checking which cluster they were in before I started the beginning of the end and neither of them showed up anywhere.

I can see where the confusion came from, though. Another awkward paradox where I can talk forever without actually saying anything people can understand.

I know the feeling.

Maybe those systems I mentioned are only avaliable because there are War Assets in them while there are none in the Percius Vale?

I can't be bothered to go check for sure right now, since I'm about to go to bed. If I remember, I might go do it tomorrow.

I started a list of what planets in what system had assest after my third play through so I didn't have to spend much time doing that... Send me a PM (Or I will forget) and when I get home I can check.

Ha. I wish someone had a comprehensive galaxy map. Figuring out locations for my story has been a bit of a nightmare and I've effectively just glossed over travel times (or just been vague about them) and such.

Also, LanceSolous, I think people in here have raised some good points about your 'Shepard's former love' idea. There's nothing wrong with it as such but I think it is important to consider why you are including it exactly, especially if there's a high chance Miranda would've been aware.

Plus, I don't mean offence to you, Seracen, and I know it was probably just a rough draft, but that example dialogue was a little on-the-nose. And the actual flow to it seems unnatural if he's just woken up (though that may be because you were condensing it into one bit).

Think it was just an example ^_^

On the same topic, I’ve been reading a certain newly released book that involves online journalism and the undead, and the dialogue is really getting on my nerves. It’s all just one-liners. Every. Single. Character. Awesome bad-ass quips get tiresome when you get nothing else.

I try hard to avoid doing that, although sometimes I fear that maybe my dialogue comes across too bland because of it…

^ I almost always include some sort of wisecracking snarky character somewhere, just because that's the kind of person I am when I interact with people personally. The first place my mind always goes is to sarcasm and good-natured teasing. Which is rubbing off on my daughters, much to the dismay of everyone else that's related to me.

But the point, before I wander too far away, is that I hope it won't be too distracting for readers to have that one character around. I try not to let it get out of hand, but I always have to have that one outlet for my sarcasm. I think that's why I loved Joker so much. His comments were almost always something I could have seen myself saying.

Whoa, thread explosion since I left England! Thought I'd drop in and say holla from vacation - weather's good and there's no writing to be done! Although, I did cave to reader pressure (and public ransom), and semi-resolve the horrible triple cliffhanger which I was sure had condemned me to writers' hell, lol.

@Drussius: I wouldn't worry about a snarky character. I've had Shep and Tali take turns at sarcasm in Nova et Vetera; doesn't seem to have peeved too many people :)

Alright folks, detour over :)

Enjoy!

I always feel like dialogue should be natural. People have conversations. Nobody speaks in all one-liners. Definitely not EVERONE speaks in all one-liners all the time. If you're just sitting around talking about the weather, you're not going to be snarking about the weather. Occsionally conversations are mundane. Sometimes the humor is situational. But I might be biased because dialogue is the only part of my writing that I'm confident about all of the time, and I write conversations.

Note: Deadpan/snarking/oneliners are ok things. But not from everyone. And not all of the time. Even Joker and Garrus have serious moments.

When was the last time in Mass Effect that you saw an Asari with a male human bondmate? I never came across one in any of my playthroughs and I'm usually pretty good about finding things.

Mass Effect 2, Illium. There's an asari arguing with "Damn Illium travel bureaucracy" about a lost locket. The locket has a picture of her now deceased human bondmate and the father of her daugther, Steven. She tears up when you give it back to her. It's quite sweet. But we see them with male turians (the fish/lifespan talk in the Citadel gift shop in ME2, the arguing couple on the Normady's docking bay in early ME3), male salarians (the gift shop old salarian step-father/step-daughter on Illium) and hell even male krogan (the poetic ones) so I don't see why not male humans.

Re: Human Sexuality and Religion in 2180:
I'd like to think that two-hundred-years (give or take) of homosexuality being (more or less) accepted would result in a shrugging reaction more than a shock. But given how Kaidan seems to be at least surprised by the fact that FemShep is interested in Liara (apparently, I've never actually seen the scene but I've heard about it) hetero is still considered the default state.

Thanks to the Shadow Broker files we know that Catholocism is still kicking around (Cerberus had a pope killed) so I assume the other major religions are also still in play. But given Ashley's dialogue in ME1 it seems that believers are rare (at least in the military at any rate) and the use of phrases like 'Oh my God' are more based on culture than belief.

Sarcasm is definitely fine, one or two characters who tend that way even most of the time are fine, quips in battle are fine…I mean it literally when I say that all characters speak in quips all the time in this particular case.

I’m not sure it’s even that…essentially it’s really hard to avoid flirting with Kaidan, so he has the wrong expectation. I think you only get that dialogue if you’ve been ‘nice’ to him, at least.

Yeah, I was kinda rushed since I'm at work and even a lunch-break doesn't mean 'a break', so only skimmed a lot of stuff.

I am just extra fussy about dialogue. I doubt I get it perfect, but I spend a lot of time agonising over it. And I find it really easy to spot dialogue that's been left to do the 'heavy lifting' in parts, and that always bugs me. Frankly, I'd rather have authentic dialogue and be confused about a situation than bored by having been told everything.

Of course, everyone here is generally a cut above the other stuff you might see.

Hey guys, just dropping in to give you a heads-up on a fandom thing going on over on Tumblr and Livejournal. It's called Big Bang (and I apologize if it's already been discussed, pressed for time and haven't looked through the recent posts here) and the basic idea behind it is that fanfic authors sign up to write a 10 000 + word fic over the period of 3 months. Over 50% of the words have to be original content though, so they can't be finished stories published on FF.net or elsewhere. Artists have a place here too! You can sign up to draw a scene from one or more of the fics, and then both the fics and art is posted starting in October.

My summary's not perfect, so check out the link here:
http://mebigbang.livejournal.com/  to find out more. Author signups close on July 23rd for those that are considering it.

Thanks for responses on GM. What I actually want is the location of all systems from ME 1 - 3. The Wiki does provide details and map of planets that can be found within the systems. I tried a search but nothing comes up so I fired up ME 3 and took pictures of the GM. At least I know the exact location of Athena Nebulae, etc, now. Posted Image

Sounds like an awesome little contest/project. Sadly, the more I look around in my town, the more I think my banishment from the internet next month will be as absolute as I think. There are a couple of local places with free wifi, but free only to customers. I really can't afford to go spending money just to get online. So I couldn't join in on something like that.

The pressure is on! I need to buckle down, stop playing ME or League of Legends, and start writing! I need to live up to that 5000 words a day goal I set myself at the beginning. So that I can get my story up before I go offline.
