This may've been asked before, this is the first time i am on this thread, so excuse me.

The best assualt rifle in the game to me is the Geth Pulse Rifle, Fast ROF, high dps, high accuracy. Absoulute favorite.
Modded with Assault Rifle increase damage mod V (cant remember the name) and armor piercing mod V. Absoulte beast according to me.

What I cant understand the hype with The Revenant, GPR is better in every aspect and even then the Revenant is recommended for Ashley in many guides i have read. Why?

This is my first playthrough and i am on Priority: The Citadel III. So no spoilers please. Mod recommendation may also help.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Honestly I think the Vindicator is, right now I'm doing a vanguard playthrough where I was planning on maxing out inferno ammo and carnage (bonus ability) to set up flame explosions and use charge/melee as more of a finisher move, but honestly even on insanity the Vindicator is tearing through things so fast most of the time I don't even have to use carnage.

If you are playig as a castig class and have it levelled the phaeston is underrated, especially with ammo powers and AP.

Reverant is good for Ashley because of marksman. It'll make the shots even faster.

Really the best assualt rifles are either Revanant with stability mod, or Phaeston, which is simmilar to revanant only with more acuraccey and weight less. Both guns are great.

Depends on your approach, class and ammo powers.

Revenant is recommended because team-mates ignore muzzle-climb and generally fire more accurately than you, somewhat negating spread, plus raw damage isn't that bad.
Same reason Hurricane is recommended for team-mates.

If you play with weight-based class (a.k.a. "caster") then you'll need something light - Vindicator or Avenger (they are lightest). They relatively weak without ammo powers (Avenger especially), so be aware of that.

If you have access to ammo powers, particulary Incendiary, especially explosive evolution, then any rapid-fire gun will do: Avenger, GPR, Revenant, Particle Rifle, Phaeston.

Even James squad variety of IEA is pretty devastative, keep that in mind. By mi tests it's second best ammo in game (first is your own IEA).

Without ammo powers (or with other ammo powers), I think Mattock is good choice - relatively light (on par with Phaeston and GPR), packing quite punch, very fast (if you have quick trigger finger). Not as accurate as before, and that's bad, even with scope.

Other guns are generally heavy, so not recommended for first playthrough for caster class, IMHO. I played as soldier with -200% overweight, so weight was last thing I was cared for.

General mod recommendations depends on your approach:
For team-mates generally it's AP plus Barrel Extention.

For IEA-based weapon (Avenger, Phaeston, GPR) it's better to have extra magazine capacity and AP mod. Especially if you play as soldier.

For Vindicator, Valkyrie, Saber and Revenant I recommend to slap Stability Dampener instead of extra mag cap, since those guns have quite a muzzle climb and it's became an annoyance to costantly correct it with mouse (I guess it's not that big problem with controller on consoles). Valkyrie with Dampener and scope can lend headshot on human-sized target ~30 metres. that's from open, out of cover.

Falcon is good either with extra mag and barrel (since each shot is powerful, extra damage could be significant) or AP. Very tricky gun, but very useful, if you'll master richochetes.

Particle Rifle could be "wtfpwnage" (kudos to JaegerBane) Avatar, but it has two flaws: it will force you to auto-pick-up any thermal clip lying around, regardless of PR's charge (clips will respawn later, if they weren't dropped by enemies) and, should you deplete all charge (with magazine capacity mod V, that will be 180) in ~8 seconds (I'd say 25/sec). After that you'll have to wait 4-5 seconds without pressing "do everything" spacebar (if you're on PC). That means it - no roll, no sprint, no getting to/over cover. If you press spacebar before RP began actual recharge (i.e. there is still 0 on ammo counter) - you'll have to wait 5 seconds more. If there it at least "1" on ammo counter - you can press spacebar normally. Total replenishment of charge for PR X will take about 4 seconds.

Argus is the only one weapon I don't know what to do with - spread is too great, RoF is too low, weapon is too heavy, reload is too slow. I guess somebody really hates LE.

I thought the Argus was decent when modded for stability. It wasn't my favorite rifle in the game but it did the job well enough.

Or at least it did with Shepard.

Even with Dampener it had severe spread. Or I have extremely bugged Argus, don't know.

I enjoyed the Revenant with my Sentinel. +130ish cooldowns still left me decently casterish. Not sure if optimal, but fun.

It's slower, weaker and heavier than Avenger or Vindicator. Vindicator requires either practice in correcting constant muzzle climb, or recoil dampener.
Do you plan to use any ammo powers in your playthrough?

Vindicator. Good damage, accuracy, and weight for a caster class.
The N7 Valkarie (Only with preorder) is great on my Vanguard.
The Mattock is great for weapon focused Sentinels or Soldiers.

For squad members the Particle rifle is a must. Perfect accuracy and throw on a ammo power for constant ownage.

The thread title asks best, but favorite was then mentioned, and those can be drastically different things.

I basically agree with what Rudy already said, although if you have it the Particle Rifle is particularly strong with IEA as well.

Personally my preference leans towards the Vindicator with Scope and AR Piercing as it is good all around as well as light. I play on PC so it is probably easier to combat muzzle climb than on console, I don't know. If you are in cover muzzle climb on it is negligible.

Mattock I consider nearly equivalent to the Vindicator in terms of effectiveness, but it plays differently and is marginally heavier. Vindicator is really more accurate at high rate of fire if you can control muzzle climb.

Revenant is a fun gun, although it takes a downgrade from ME2 as the accuracy is not particularly good. I fight the muzzle climb on it and run Scope and AR Piercing as well. You can try out Stability vs the Scope for yourself and see which you prefer. I like the slightly smaller group size from the Scope and just fight the muzzle climb.

Quickly running through the others:

Avenger makes an offensive noise, does hardly any damage per shot, and looks like a tuna, but on the other hand it is very light. IEA makes anything with a decent rate of fire look good though, and that includes this weapon.

Phaeston might as well be an Avenger that has less damage per shot, but more ROF. It is almost interchangeable with the Avenger, except that it seems like it does less effective damage due to reduced accuracy.

GPR, like all the other automatics, is pretty mediocre without AR Piercing and IEA.  Add those and it is good, just like the two above.

Argus needs some help. I admit I haven't used it in any real missions, but I can't imagine it is all that useful from back to back range time between it and the other rifles.

Likewise, Valkyrie is described as an "Avenger variant" although in practice it seems to have a lot more in common with the Vindicator. I prefer the Vindicator over it.

Saber is an odd weapon that is limited in ammo capacity. It is really very similar in function to the Viper, and that may not be a good thing. It has higher damage per shot and ROF, although it is slightly less accurate if you try to spray out the rounds. It also weighs as much as the Revenant, which I prefer to this weapon. If you are good at aiming though this weapon can be pretty useful (moreso than the Viper), but it is somewhat tricky to hit rapidly moving targets with. All in all I suppose I can give it a provisional recommendation.

hmm Good Question

there's a couple

- Revenant with shredder mod and the Markman's ability slap onto it you got yourself a Beastly weapon
- GPR is good also nice

more of a shotgun type - AT-12 Raider or the Claymore. Something I did back in my ME2 days, and haven't loss the "touch"

I love the Saber for the punch and the Avenger for Run N' Gun Fun. But I enjoy the Mattock the most...versatility and lethal all in one beautifully wrapped package

I'd say the Falcon is the best in singleplayer, because it hasn't been nerfed and there is no lag. Although it is more of a shotgun than assault rifle, and you get it really late in the game, but very viable for a NG+ run -- grab the ammo and damage mod and enjoy a pseudo shotgun with great range and aoe.

If you have Inferno Ammo the Geth Pulse Rifle and Particle Rifle probably out class it.

I have to say I really love M-96 Mattock, no matter what my Shepard class is. For me it was best rifle out there. And with the right upgrades and scope is just awesome. Nothing feels as comfortable, as accurate and deadly in Shepard hands as this rifle. Not to mention great sheild/armor-piercing capabilities. So great aganinst cerberus, and reapers.

Same for squadmates. It worked amazingly with Kaidan Sentinel class. He was so fast with it, and somethimes took my kill - before I even managed to get to the position.

for squaddies with ARs i go for the From Ashes DLC weapon (not to spoil it for you)

Chakram Launcher is broken as hell.

The Collector Rifle, while I enjoy it on Insanity, doesn't offer much outside a pumped Avenger mixed with a GPR will do. Sadly, it carries most of the weight of both guns (it's biggest downfall for such a light looking weapon).

It's not just you... I modded the Argus to halve both the weight and recoil, makes it a viable weapon.

Personally I like the Valkyrie even though I halved the weight. Remember as well that squaddies don't suffer a weight penalty, so feel free to give them the heaviest guns.

I go for SR's and Pistols usually in SP but for a change of pace the Mattock is the best for me in SP and MP. Piercing mod + Extended barrel wins everytime. i give my squddies the From Ashes AR, i dont like it personally but they use it pretty effectively.

The phaeston is my favourite gun. I know this isn't in multiplayer but for someone who is an average player a phaeston with stability and scope and an ammo power works really well and has opened up higher difficulty levels for me.

I think the Vindicator is probably the best. The N7 Valkyrie is my favorite though.
