I love how "customers are always right" have now become "entitled crybabys"

I find the notion of "entitled gamers" extremely humorous. By default, it infers developers and publishers are entitled to consumer money.

No, the notion of "commerce" nicely describes the relationship between devs/pubs and consumer money. Some of the BSN threats, personal attacks, conspiracy theories, whinging, calls for firing, and selfishness that we've seen after some game releases do meet the definition of "gamer entitlement" pretty well. Not saying that all complaints are entitlement, and not saying that you're not allowed to criticize or discuss what you don't like, but there are people that go [i]way[/]i over the line because they feel entitled to a perfect game that must cater precisely to their tastes just because they spent money on it. Rather than the reality of commerce, which is generally that someone produces something and advertises it, and a consumer chooses whether to buy it or not, perfection and catering to tastes not guaranteed.

Some people believe that "I didn't like it" and "the game is broken" and "you made it wrong" are the same thing.

I agree with that, Stan. You're definitely right...that nonsense of threats and what not is atrociously bad. That is never acceptable. However, I also believe the anger at not fulfilling elements of the offer that has many quotes behind it doesn't mean they feel entitled. Its more disappointment and dissatisfaction that and disbelief what was quoted pre-release wasn't true. It's good a company is seeking to do right by that by making free dlc to fulfill that initial claim. Very respectable at least.

But the fact remains that the fanbase got spintered and left a bad taste. People, especially consumers, don't like dishonesty. But some of the tactics by the small minority of unsatisfied are abysmally unacceptable. I would agree they have a perception of false entitlement.

So you don't think they might think all three things apply? At the same time? That would seem a perfectly possible alternative interpretion, to me.

It's an artistic medium, so appreciation/valuation of it is fraught with relativism - and on that basis "you don't like it, but it is not in fact broken" works on exactly the same fallacy as "I do not like it, therefore it is broken".

I can't really speak about swtor as I was badly ill when I was supposed to be trying it, but I think it's a shame it hasn't been more well-liked. If any company needs to be bolstered by ongoing income that frees it up to spend however long it likes on development like ie Valve can... it's BioWare.

But what is the point of playing only the story?

Having fun?

Once that is over there is nothing else if you don't pvp or are social active? Even Blizzard is trying to change WoW and having it be more social at least in Panderia. I've never played an MMO with such a horrible community and by horrible I don't mean people who are vulgar I mean people just don't talk at all it makes me miss Barrens chat.

That's because a lot of TOR players don't want an MMO - they want KoTOR 3, and they're paying a subscription fee for a watered down version.

So...the movement in MMO games is to make them more "social"...the move is to therefore make them all more like SecondLife.

Ugh.  Secondlife is nothing BUT social.  It is IRC chat with avatars.  Sad, lonely shut ins with no life beyond SL.  THIS is the direction MMO "games" are going?  There's no "game" there, just inane nonsense and preening.

Look at it this way. The fact that the backlash is always so bad must mean the hype team does a good job at getting people excited for it.

How very hateful.

I think that's missing the point anyway. Instead of playing a game by yourself, you're playing a game while talking to people. I don't see what's so bad about it, and I definitely don't see why you'd want an MMO without the social aspect. If you dislike having other players in your game, that's what singleplayer games are for.

The best times I've had playing MMOs were not spent in a glorified chatroom. We were going through dungeons setting speed challenges for ourselves or trying to see how much we could survive by messing up on purpose. I don't know, maybe we were sad and lonely shutins, but we sure had fun.

I never had that kind of fun in TOR, which is a shame because I actually like the game otherwise (except for the crafting system though).

I play solo with the Chat off for the reason that I do not wish to interact with others. Sometimes this is due to personality clashes as seen on the Forums, but it is also due to the ideas I am a poor typist and sub-standard Player; will not be much of a benefit to any group.

I choose TOR as I like the stories and writing, and DA3 will not be out for a while yet, and I am not one to purchase every title; prefer to pick and choose, and Bioware has proven themselves to be a trusted name to me.

Now, for those that do like Social games, SWTOR offers that, too. But it is still the New Kid On the Block, and folks will have to get to know the neighbors. Me? I prefer to remain indoors, as I burn easily....

You don't need to type quickly with voice chat. All that substandard player stuff isn't much of a concern with a friendly guild. I sucked at healing when I got started with that, for example. My friends kept bringing me to dungeons anyway and I got very good at it eventually.

I have no problem with people playing the game alone. However, I was a little disappointed that I was not able to find that many likeminded individuals in TOR. Hasn't been a problem for me in other MMOs.

The EU server I am on was empty after the first month. At peak play times for the EU Republic Fleet only had a max of 30 players of various levels at one time. I canceled my subs due to low populations and bad graphics and a poor crafting system.

Not simply slow, but uncoordinated and incorrect. Besides a lack of eye-hand, I have nerve damage and have had a stroke; not really up for explaining this a lot for grouping.

I still suggest that you gather a few friends and start your own Guild. My favorite time gaming in the past dozen years was the private NWN1 m/p group that played bi-weekly for 5 yrs. Controlled environment for Chat and social interaction was terrific, as well as the comradery one can gain from PnP.

And while the low pop servers may be problematic for some, these are being 'fixed'; transfers are coming for those that want them.

But I like the FX and crafting myself; enjoy running Crew Skill missions while flying Ship Combat. Am running some like missions now while I visit here currently. And while I prefer other art styles, my Pure-Blood Sith brethren look terrific; sound spot on, too. All of this does not appear to be available elsewhere, so I am good for now.

No. I get that. I won't tell you how to spend your time, just saying that not everyone who plays MMOs in groups is intolerant.

I did try hardcore raiding myself, by the way. Didn't like it at all. I'd rather just play with nice people and fail sometimes.

Yeah. Hard to get started on that kind of thing though, or at least I think so.

I might need to take a look for myself soon. I still have characters in the game and "forgot" to unsubscribe. Seems like a lot of things have been going on.

Man I loved what SE did with FFXIV crafting.

The game's crafting features honestly feel like something out of a pure sandbox design document. You can start crafting at the start of the game and spend the entire game quite comfortably crafting. There are quests specifically for you, content that you can unlock, and progression -- both in terms of harder quests to accomplish and better equipment for crafting. There's now even stuff for you to do at the endgame, special quests to undertake that require a high level of skill and a fair amount of extra material.

Sounds much better imo.

I'm not a FF fanboy but a sandbox style crafting system sounds great. I would have love for TOR to try something similar especially since well Star Wars Galaxies is still the best for crafting.

A single player that has updated and additional content each week, is available almost 24/7, Tech support to help with questions, GM's, events, etc; all for about .50 cents a day. Worth it to me....

If you say so but I can't shake the thought that all of that have been free for most single player games I own.
People say the same thing about Xbox live yet I get everything they do for free on my PS3. I honestly don't care how much it is its just silly to rationalize it like that.
50 cents a day is still being charged even if you're forced to not play for 3 weeks.

Come on. GM support is horrible for TOR and tech support isn't much better.

I have not needed a GM yet, but I am not opposed to some more Event style occurances. While I choose to play solo, I am aware that others are playing there, too. And I have needed Support, and received answers quickly.

Again, worth it to me.

I do not play on consoles; do not see thge point you are making. And since becoming disabled, I have more time to spend playing a MMO daily. As mentioned earlier, I used to spend more on Diet Coke, and I do not have many other luxury expenses now.
