Garbage just released a new album.

Bought the deluxe version, listened to it and it was okay.

I guess it's just too difficult to make another album as epic as Version 2.0. :?

You look so fine is one of the best songs I ever heard in my entire life. Blled like me was a good album too. I haven't had a chance ti hear Not Your Kind Of People, but Shirley's voice is like silk, so I;m sure it's just fine.

Hmm..Lets see, whats some names to pick up now::

Garbage, Apocalyptica, black rebel motorcycle club, Desire (drive-underyourspell), chromatics, the black keys, primus, Buckethead(kinda hit or miss for me tbh), the national, editors, shing02 and nujabes.

i think im starting to get a better idea on what kind of music Im looking for now. Something jazzy and bluesy, or hiphop and a bit of funk.

Finally, you have some direction. What you want is some trip-hop you might even like some psychedelic funk.

Little Dragon
Freak Power
Lamb
Massive Attack
Portishead
Martina Topley Bird
Lacuna Coil is pretty good.

I've also found myself listening to a lot of Portishead and Little Dragon lately. Those two bands are a nice change of pace from what I normally listen to (Metal, Electro, Dubstep [the mellow, not the wub wub], Hardstyle).

Didn't notice people already mentioned them until after I posted!

Okay, need to redeem myself.

Zero 7, Lovage, DJ Shadow. All of em put out some good stuff.

Sixtoo is cool too.

All those bands are downbeat "trip hop" though. If you're more in the mood for 90's-esque alternative you can never go wrong with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Queens of the Stone Age are also good too.

If you want something more modern pick up the Dopplegangaz album from last year it's awesome. Also check out the experimental hip-hop group Death Grips.   Lone Shark from the Doppelgangaz was my fave album from last year.  Also check out Mr. Lif, El-P and Aesop Rock.

At Night - Doppelgangaz

Beware - Death Grips

Mr. Lif - The Sun

Coffee (feat. John Darnielle) - Aesop Rock

Crooked (feat. Aesop Rock) - Evil Nine

How to Serve Man (the meanest things I would never say) - El-P

Stepfather Factory - El-P

Hmm. maybe...

Mastodon

Queens of the Stone Age

Eagles of Death Metal

One from my home country (hit and miss): Ewert and the Two Dragons

edit: these might easily be a bit off (after reading what you'd expect) - they've got nothing to do with jazz or hip-hop. :)

There is always the Protomen: www.youtube.com/watch

Their two CDs encompass a rather large variety of music.

"The Stalking" - John Zorn.

"Scuzzy Skank" - New Cool Collective.

Mr. Clean - Marcus Miller. Gotta say, freaking fresh right there. I'll check out the rest of the songs later in the day. U guys rock, I can finally enjoy music again!

Its odd, I went from Metal, and grunge to Jazz, Funk and hiphop.

If you'd want something more jazzy, how about...

Herbie Han****
This album's from 65'.

Avishai Cohen

Nucleus

edit: anime has killer music.
for hip-hop (related) there's Samurai Champloo (one of the contributing artists is Nujabes)
also Gantz, and Afro Samurai (obviously)

For jazz/funk/fusion, you can check out this site for awesome info... (I for one like this kind of jazz/fusion mostly, but it has fairly wide bondries, including the Herbie and Nucleus)
An example: this forum page has Funk suggestions.
Including this one.

Cool. When I am looking for music on YouTube, I often check out the unknown names on the right-hand list there. Sometimes you discover great gems that way. And of course the big thread in Off-Topic is a good way to find stuff you never heard before. Some of the great posters there are now on my FL. :)

Get Last.FM too.  It's a great resource to find out about related bands you might not have heard of.  It's a great tool.

You know... I think wanting "the latest music" is the wrong approach. If it makes my feet move or if it gives me goosebumps then I don't care when it was made and what kind of music it is. ;)

1995: "Bugg Lite" - Zillatron.

1977: "Fourplay" - Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns.

2005: "Trust" - George Duke.

1998: "Cyber Teeth Tigers" - Digital Underground.

2009: "Dark Heat" - Method Of Defiance.

Edit: Thanks for the heads up, Hyperglide. I forgot about that one. :)

If you really want real Jazz and Blues that's still contemporary.

Seth Macfarlane
Duffy
Paloma Faith
This isn't jazz or blues by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't recommend them enough

Oi Va Voi
