I just bought and installed ME1, but there are no instructions. No keyboard layout or anything, and nothing I can find on the disks beyound tech stuff. Would some one be so kind as to pint me to a website or something. I tried ME wiki, which has tons of walk throughs, but no basic get started stuff.

Mostly standard stuff: W for forward, A for left, S for back and D for right. Mouse controls the direction you look and therefore the direction you run when you're moving and mousing at the same time. Left click fires your weapon, scroll changes weapons. Most of the rest of the controls are explained for you in the first mission by messages that pop up on screen in the game. If you want a complete list then got to the main menu (which you can do any time in game with the Escape key). On that there's something like Options and in there somewhere is an option (might be Controls or something like that) to change the key bindings, and of course that means showing you a list of what they all are right now.

Q to exit the Makko or however it is spelled. Just beat it a few weeks ago myself, if I can help at all let me know. Hey PsiFive I beat 2 about half an hour ago, I am going to finish up some side missions before I import to 3 but thanks again for all the help.

Also, the keyboard commands should be listed in your in-game menu under options iirc. you can also turn tutorials on somewhere in the menu, which will tell you what to do the first time the action comes up. Tutorials are usually on by default.
