I always play with randoms as my friends did not take to the MP of the game like I did, and my experience has been great. I rarely join a silver group where the team fails, and on gold games if we do wipe its usually on a late round like 8 or 9. Am I just lucky or do others of you have good experience with randoms too, as there seems to be a dislike for public matches on the board.

I've had my share of good and bad experiences, but I generally have a good time playing randoms.I think I can count on my fingers the number of times my team was a total fail. I only play on silver, though.

Randoms are random.
During challenges ( 2 weeks ago), you get some of the WORST possible players there, n7 60's with a Claymore and a Widow on a Novaguard and similarly intelligent tactics...
Sometimes, you end up in a lobby full of good players and get the 10 waves survived medal... though mostly not.

I also play with randoms all the time, For the most part I have no problems but there are some nights I have had to turn the game off because the players have just been horrid. But thankfully that has been a rare occurrence.

I win more than I lose, but I often have to turn my headset to all game volume/no voice. I couldn't play this game on PSN if I couldn't turn off the chat. Lousy music, awkward phone conversations, high school gossip, etc. etc. etc.

Really there are very few bad teams. You might see some questionable players but honestly how bad can you be? The "worst" thing I see are some questionable loadouts - Adepts with an sniper rifle and shotgun at the same time. Thing is it works out most of the time. I'd say 99% of my missions are fine and the worst experiences have always been with N7 1000+ types who think they constantly need to tell everyone how to play and how their build sucks.

My general experience? It's totally unpredictable and runs the full gamut of positive and negative.

However, it's seemed to have skewed towards the positive side more than the negative over the past few months, as if more of the regular players are getting that it's less of a competition and more of a cooperative effort.

You'll still get your hacked guns, your uncooperative snipers, your obnoxious biotics and your credit hoarders here and there, but I've been fairly impressed with the paradigm shift I've seen over the past few weeks. Keep it up, guys.

My general experience is it takes a while to get a game going. Mostly to stupidity in the lobby. That ranges from people coming into a lobby and never hitting the ready button, to stupid reasons for kicking.

Public games to private games are as public bathrooms to private bathrooms. Its not like you can't find a clean one. But you are going to have to look a lot longer.

I've adapted a great strategy, Don't use any equipment or consumables. (Unless its wave 10- 1 node/enemy left type of thing) I have been having the best time ever since. I've gotten screamed at over the mic plenty time now cause of it, but I think, I've beaten gold with a team full of level 1s, multiple games with no consumables (we used equip). WHY THE HELL SHOULD I USE MY STUFF IN A GAME FULL OF 18~20S!?? So now I just don't bother. Maybe when I cap out my consumables I'll give one a tap.

I just hope that newbies would NOT USE their medigrsl between waves 1-5 and no rockets untilt 5-->

But it is ok. I do not blame newbies - these are just recomendations.

Im getting more good groups than bad lately. I can usually find 3 others that know what theyre doing and we can all contribute to the team equally. I can usually get 3 or 4 gold extractions before one of them leaves the lobby, then the cycle repeats with new people if Im lucky.

I play silver on ps3 99% of the time. Usually I have zero issues with public matches, i've always seemed to get good groups. As long as you are o.k. with occasionally having to maybe carry half the team if you are playing with a pretty low n7, then you usually won't run into any fun killing problems. Public's get alot of bad rep on the forums, but honestly they are usually pretty good imo.

I can carry a bad team on silver but I'm not good enough to carry a bad team on gold. As far as success rate probably 95% silver and 70% gold.

For me generally most Silver games succeed to extraction, but often the team has one or two weak links. "Melee-only" Krogan/Batarian, Do-nothing Infiltrator, that sort of thing. Nobody is openly hostile though. They just leave if they don't like the players/setups. I have to carry the team somewhat often.

Gold games I see more arrogant people but probably a small sample size.

Essentially, it's not like public matches are bad, but the quality is unpredictable and usually only average.

The best way to grow your friends list is by playing randoms.  The flip side to that, however, is that when your friends list is ~50 players, it becomes too easy to overbook your games, inviting more people to the match than the available slots, and not having any room for picking up new randoms.

 Awesome.

Hasn't been a single time where I'd go "this team is terrible" or anything similar.

Sure, occasionaly there will be that one guy that doesn't run for the extraction and dies at the opposite end of the map with 8 seconds to go, but the other two usually know what they're doing.

Last night I tried to get into a gold Reactor game. After 10 minutes of fail, I switched it all to unknown and end up in Firebase White Geth. Nothing but infilitraitors. Everything was going great untill the end where a nearly dead banshee decided to do her little pulse field with 3 primes walking into view. I was able to make it to extraction with 1 second on the clock (thank you Hunter mode speed boost). Was the funnest match i've ever been a part of.

Generally good experiences. I wish people were a little more friendly and chatty but that's a personal preference.

My most unpleasant experience was being kicked in the lobby after saying hello because I lack testosterone.

Generally i get good, acceptable teams who get the job done, i can rarely have complaints, except for when people don't revive you when you feel they probably should, that and not using rockets at perfect situations, but like i said, generally, they get the job done, and that's all you can ask really.

On gold, I find on *average* I'll get one person who is quite good, one person who is above average, and one very crappy person.

60-80% of the time I win. But the losses are astoundingly painful. Haven't wiped before wave 7 in a while.

Do screen my teams though. Sometimes the lag is aweful too.

Well, a little while ago, played a Gold game with a bunch of randoms. They seemed reasonable, only 1 guy was below 100 N7 ranking (not that I really use that as an indication of skill, but it's a good hint) and with fairly good weapons equipped (lowest was VII I think), with the right amount of equipment invested into the game and, most importantly, no one was below level 18. Everything seemed alright, till they just bolted at every possible direction each like the 3 horsemen of the apocalypse at wave 1 and never looked back. I can't say I carried the team (a basic rule I follow is that if I'm leading the scoreboards, something is definitely off with the team) but mostly had to take down a lot of the baddies mano y many'o. Reached up to wave 5 before wiping out I think.

Then the next match, joined a different set of players and we had a 3 man team with 2 geth infiltrators and me as a drell adept. Got dropped in medias res too so couldn't have any say in it. Seemed like a doomed enterprise from the start since I'm a glass cannon and I'm suppose to aggro reapers. Funny thing though, we finished all waves, full extraction and all. Might have used a rocket or two and had to medigel more than once but it felt like a team effort all throughout. Watched each other's backs, moved as a team and completed objectives as efficiently as possible.

The point? Well, you win some, you lose some. If you're a good enough player though, you can salvage bad teams if it were ever to come to that.

Good rule of thumb: Expect the worst. There's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised.
