Random.
That said, I usually carry the team when they're N7 100 or lower.
Weird considering I'm not that far above 100.
Your general experience when playing with randoms?

I only play with randoms, that's why the game isn't getting boring for me - absolutely no idea how it's gonna turn out. Just like the store

I never had bad experiences with randoms, mostly because they are all muted and there are not a lot to do to get me mad without a mic. But I have my fair share inactives that dont do anything at all, not even moving. Mostly play with friends that I meet on the Bronze Effect group, good people there, even with things go bad on the mach we have a blast anyways like no random can acomplish, not muted anyways.
Basicly my experience with random it not bad because I dont allow it to be. Gameplay wise I dont give a care if I fail or not with randoms, when I want really the job done I have people to help me out. Randoms is just for when everyone is busy or offline and for a quick match and leave.
Anyways, my opinion on the topic.

Its hit or miss. But if I'm in the zone rolling with one of my usual characters we rarely lose. Met some pretty cool people playing randoms as well. Along with a few "gamers of great thirst".

It's a mixed bag. It usually goes better when they have mics. When the games go really well and we really kick ass I'll usually add the people as friends, thus reducing the amount I need to play with randoms.

I think, for me, personally, I would rather play with the friends I've met, but if none of them are around, I am more than happy to play randoms.
Why? You get some good teams, and some bad teams. You meet new people... given, I don't have a mic. but I do have headphones, so I can hear what others are saying. A few times, I've heard some pretty offensive things... rants, ****ing, whining.... some very horrible things actually, at times.... my friends are rude, anyway, I just exit the lobby, and forget about it as soon as the match is over.
More often than not, I've had good experiences, though in randoms. And had some great fun. It's just awesome when you're wandering around the lobbies, and hit a team that synergizes perfectly. I have more stories about the fun randoms, than I do the ****s who spew filth over their mics.
The thing is.... it's a game, and I see it as a game. A co-op game, as well. It's supposed to be fun, not a chore, a competition, or a pissing match. That's why I enjoy randoms... the chaos that ensue's can be a total blast, even if we all wipe on wave 3 or 4 a couple times, as long as you keep things in perspective.

I seem to get good teams in bursts. Actually, thats probably the same for everyone because once you find a good group of guys to play with and you win consecutive games in a row, you tend to stick around.
But then there are times when it seems impossible to get any competent team in the public servers.

i have had excellent games (made a lot of friends) and some games where I shake my head and hope we never cross path's again, I would guess 85 to 90% have been good or great. I mainly now play with friends, I have I believe 21 that play and almost always can find three.

Last couple weeks haven't been as good for me on gold. Lobbies take longer to fill up (sometimes more than ten minutes), and a lot more don't seem to understand a lot of basic concepts.

Generally really good, i've head a few head scratchers. I usually play on silver but on gold it seems a lot worse, I've had a lot of teams there wherein their behavior is confusing, like they just don't know what to do at all. No strategy, no cohesion, no sense of how to deal with the goal rounds, maybe it's less noticeable on silver because if there is one other good player you are going to get through anyway.

Random silvers usually go well, but random golds are often a nightmare. Then again I've become friends with some good players in those random gold matches, so I guess I'd say the experience is usually...random.

Personally, I try not to play pubs without at least ONE other player I know who is capable of actually understanding the mechanics of the game.
The last three days has been filled with people running INTO traditional spawn zones, and causing enemies to spawn in bad places. Even to the point where one nub kept shooting blindly into empty halls as if shooting a wall will score him points.
It isn't a matter of IF they'll die, its a matter of when. An frankly I'm in no hurry to save them.. They cost me the 10 successful waves bonus by their idiocy and point greed.. Then I'm more than willing to let them bleed out. My game goes infinitely better when I'm not fighting off hordes of enemy while trying to cross a map to pick up a nub who refuses to work as a team.

Here's the main thing I hate about randoms: nobody will ever use consumables. If they do, they're either the rare few that are smart, or they're the type that will blow their missiles on the first boss (or even a Brute...) and never medi-gel.

Hit or miss usually. General experience based on difficulty below.
Bronze: Everyone Rambo's and demolishes everything. Good fun for when you wanna just blow stuff up or punch worlds.
Silver: Intolerant and elitist people everywhere. People leave because they aren't topping the pointless charts. They kick for the dumbest reasons. General douchebaggery here.
Gold: Surprisingly enough, Gold's the best for me. Everyone works as a team, actually communicates(most of the time, at least warn about a Phantom or Banshee approaching, etc.). I rarely if ever see people get kicked as well as I rarely if ever see people leave Gold in the middle of a match.

Worse are the ones who blow 5 missiles on the extraction wave after holding out on a hellish round 10. WHYWHUJGYFGHUGHWHY

Most Gold games go really well. Usually get people who know what they're doing. Silver players can frustrate--especially those who won't use medi-gel or missiles--but my experiences are largely positive.

I play mostly silver and I've found that random players come in 2 varieties: Really good and really bad. It would be nice to find players who are right at my skill level

On silver as long as there is a really good guy on my team we atleast make it to round 9-10. If I am infililtrator (by far the easiest class to play and cheap imo) I can usually solo silver if I have to.
Gold is where a lot of problems pop up. I get a lot of underleveled people who should stick with bronze for a while. I once had 2 level 1 vanguard krogans against reapers. We got stomped but it was the funniest thing ever lol. Im not saying I am good at gold either, I strictly play a support role and pretty much become the unofficial medic lol. If I happen to stumble upon a decent group all try to do is not be a total hinderance,
N71000+ with mics are the worse though, just stfu, not all of us can spend our lives online ****. If they are not trying to be experts, I get some cocky ones who try to solo gold and get killed before the "noobs." Needless to say I dont revive them to hear them **** about me not being a good team mate lol.

Well, that is how good players play gold as well. Just set the match to unknown/unknown and then just go rambo and it's as fun as bronze.
Camping and stuff like that gets really boring on gold after a while, and most randoms use camping almost all the time.

Generally? Frustrating, but sort of worth it. You learn to compensate for other players lack of skill or teamwork, meaning when you group up with a good team you wonder why you ever thought Gold was hard...
Almost all of my games have at least 1 player who is a total charity case. Sometimes I get unlucky and there's more, but if it's me, two average players and one total scrub, we can usually pull it off.
