So, what are the coolest armors out there, and are there any ways to achieve a similar look?

Here are my top 5.

Kaidan Alenko's Alternate Appearance
Posted Image

I believe that you can emulate his armor look in ME3 with the Ariake Tech chestplate, Hahne-Kedar greaves and arms, and Kassa Fabrication/Hahne Kedar for the shoulders.

Bulky individual armor plates seem to look cooler than thinner, fully connected armor for some reason.  Hence why I prefer his new armor over the variant he wears during the ME2 cameo.

Garrus Desert Armor

Seems to be inspired by the ME3 Human Hahne Kedar set.  Rougher exterior armor with more ballistic fabrics instead of armor plating, with power packs sticking out.  Looks better than the human variant because Turians tend to wear thicker armor, I guess, so the thinner outer plating doesnt look too flimsy.  The ammo packs are kind of a throwback to modern combat gear.

Wrex's Krogan Berserker
Posted Image

Tubes seem to look cooler for some reason.  Especially if they glow.  Looks insanely intimidating, since the tubes look like devil horns.  Too bad humans dont get anything cool like that.  The sheer size kinda reminds me of the T45b armor suit from Fallout 3.

Tela Vasir's ME1 style armor
Posted Image

Unless you play ME1, theres no way to get a similar armor set.  It's basically an armor similar to the Partisian Armor from Batarian state arms in ME1, but with a different paintjob.  Also has a few less tubes to make the design smoother.  It has the cool looking arm mounted shotgun clip holder whatever, and the asymmetrical shoulders which seem to be inspired by Halo.

Zaeed Messani's default armor
Posted Image

Has a stark contrast to most of the ME armor.  It draws inspiration from the more archaic Roman look, and looks worn and damaged.  Meanwhile, other ME armors draw inspiration from other scifis, or modern combat armor.  Id describe it as a blend of Dead Space and Romans.  Also, asymmetrical shoulders look cool.  Dunno why.

I always liked the ME1 N7 heavy armor. It's a shame they never added it in ME2 and ME3

You mean the onyx armor?

Meh, I always hated the collector armor.  Never really seemed plausible.  Also, wasnt really that useful.  But to each his own.

Yeah, that's one of the gripes ive had about ME2 and ME3 armor.  But Im guessing that areas not plated are reinforced with some bulletproof material, or its the stuff used on the more cloth like ME1 armor.  On Tela Vasir's armor, it looks like some bulletproof material.  Same thing like the human Hahne Kedar set's stomach area.

For areas that are as vulrenable as the neck and stomach, you'd think that they would put something more than bulletproof fabrics.  Although Im assuming that these fabrics are weaker than whatever plating theyre using the ME universe.  And that these platings stop the bullets which hit with x2 the force of modern day ammo.  Based on the fact that shields are the most relied on form of protection, im guessing that plating doesnt make that big of a difference.  Once shields are down, youre F*(^3$.

I liked ME1's medium armour. It manages to convince as armour without being too bulky.

Colossus (ME1) Terminus in ME2, and the Ariake Armor in ME3 are my faves for Shepard. I still want an Alliance colored armor from ME3, it has a beautiful blue.

N7 Defender armor. One of my favorites. Also the Hahne-Kedar and Ariake Tech armors.

As for the aliens... my favorite has got to be Garrus's alternate appearence included in the "From Ashes" DLC. The one with the desert camo and bandoliers. Also Jame's alternate appearence in the vanilla game (not the DLC ones).

You know, I really thought it was Kaidan wearing that armor at first.

Depending on how you play your shep, Pink armor may not be his thing.

Sometimes I put my entire squad in Phoenix. Having the whole team running around in pink is hawt.

Well, Tali's Phoenix was actually red, but that made her look like Nurse Tali, which was just as good.

Colossus armor from ME1 is really cool, especially the quarian version - red/black/silver is one of my favorite color combos.

My Shepards' armor in ME2/3 is such a custom mix-and-match job that I don't even remember what set they come from most of the time, but I like it that way. I don't normally use the armors that can't be changed because the helmet hides Shepard's face, but if they had a helmet-toggle, Blood Dragon armor looks awesome. The squadmate armors I like best are Garrus' and Tali's, all of them.

In ME2 I used the Capacitator Plate with Strength Boost Pads, Stabilization Gauntlets and Stimulator Conduits. That this is a good combination, the best in my opinion, Bioware realized when they made it into the Kassa set in ME3.

Posted Image

Unfortunately they made some changes to it that made it lose it's charm. The uncustomizable areas that used to be locked black are now locked grey. They also changed the surface of it to something that looks bad in my opinion. The worst part though is that no matter what you do you can't get a uniform colour on the customizable parts. That's the same problem the Rosenkov set has compared to the Terminus. You are stuck with blotchy armor.
