Yay double edged sword!

It could be a great idea that opens up possibilities for a future where developer and player have more of a dialogue, or it could be a horrible situation that totally bombs.

You're rather heavily misinterpreting what they're doing.

You see, they've finally realized that there ARE things that the fans WANT to see. And there are things the fans DON'T want to see. And oddly, the fans are a *better* source of information on their own games than the writers who wrote them; the writers are sometimes too close to the project to remember what they wrote before.

So what this is, is a series of topics meant to gather feedback on development direction, well before the deadlines to set things in stone.

"Give us back tons of speech choices"
"Give us back more races, we don't care if Mike the main character is voice-acted"
"Bring back tactical combat that isn't just random gangs attacking you in the streets"

E3 Announcement Trailer will contain sparkly combat concentrating on the story of one elven man overcoming oppression.

Just you wait.

Bowing too much to fan demands is as bad as not listening to them at all.

The only problem I could see here is that frankly... if you ask 300 fans what they want to see, you're going to get 400 opinions.

The loudest of these fans are going to inevitably be pissed off when Bioware doesn't take every single one of their suggestions, and start an absolute **** storm.

"Bioware doesn't listen to us, we're gonna complain forever so they listen because we are too damn important" ME3.

"Bioware is going to listen to our suggestions? What's wrong with them!? They're going into very low standars" DA3."

BSN is really genius.

With thousands of individuals on a single forum, it is pretty much certain that opposing perspectives will be voiced.

It's what happens in an anarchistic environment.

Meanwhile, the ME franchise burns to the ground.

I'm pretty sure the devs are smart enough to incorporate a good balance of fan input and their original vision. I'm very much looking forward to what comes out of this "ask the fans" approach.

I just bet the "fans" are going to hate it anyway, even if Bioware makes a game completely under their demans... sorry, suggestions.

That's the only thing they can do.

Getting fan feedback is hardly 'getting fans to write the story'. Before I develop a student or teacher resource, I consult heavily with teachers to see what they want. I don't 'get them to make it'. I get information on what they want, then I make it. This is good practice.

Seriously, can these guys do ANYTHING right? Half this forum is people excoriating them for getting it wrong (and I have to ask: WHY are you here if you are one of those people? You know there's other games out there, right?) but if they try to consult with the fans about getting it right, they get flamed for that as well. Leave Britney alone, would you?

No, the fact that DA2 was hated by many is the reason they are asking fans what they want. ME3 is a coincidence.

this thread is weird and the whole thing reeks of strawman. ME3 wasn't bad because of a lack of fan input, it was bad because it was poorly made in some of the places that counted most. (It's not a bad game, rither, just sayin' fan input was irrelevant). Bioware doesn't need to "listen" to fans except for listening to one thing: stop rushing your sh*t and cutting corners. Ask the EA brass for that extra year, and in return, they keep their audience intact and will make that money back later. Hell, price the games to satisfy EAs greed. But do them properly.

Most of us that are sane can live with differencs of vision and preferences, as long as they're done well and up front. So change two things, Bioware: extend your dev cycle and budget accordingly, and put your lying marketing scum back on their leashes.

I don't see why this is inherently negative. I mean, after DA2, templars and mages as plot topics are well and truly dead to me. If they write both factions out of existence in the intro to DA3, I'll be tickled pink, that's how badly DA2 failed in my experience. However, the Qunari continue to be interesting. While I disagree with their philosophy, the Qunari were the ONLY group in DA2 that didn't suck to the point of making me long for genocide. If my feedback can steer DA3 into delving more deeply into the Qunari and away from the templar/mage crapfest, that can only be good for me.

Also, less exploding bodies and mobs dropping from the sky couldn't hurt either. I don't want to have "It's Raining Men" playing in my head during each fight.

Haters are gonna hate.  However, to suggest that there isn't a sizeable segment of the player base that have been BW fans for 10+ years and are seriously disenfranchised by the stumbles of the last several years is simply not realistic.

Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 1 spoiled us :(
