If a Mantis is enough to kill your enemy, all the widow is, is a clunkier version of it.
I don't say it's generally better (it isn't), just that I preferred it back in the day when I ran a SI with a drain build, or as a backup when I feel like going all shotgun on a bunch of baddies. I don't think it would apply to many other classes.

The Tac cloak extra damage lifts even a stinker like the Mantis to "fairly usable", problem with the widow is that against most enemies the extra Peak damage of the widow is useless.

You bodyshoot a trooper on Gold, so do I with my BW.
Thing is, afterwards I bodyshoot his 2 buddies, often not even zooming out, you have to reload to do that.
Twice.
Maybe the mechanics are different on the console what with your controllers, autoaim and quickscope, but on the PC, for me, on gold with the shield gate, it's no competition at all.

And against bosses it comes down to raw DPS, here the BW does superbly well as well, the cloak/shoot/reload cycle just works like a charm, eventhough I will admit, it gets you a bit more exposure. A small price to pay.

So maybe that's the difference then, that you're on PC and I'm on the cooler Xbox.  Maybe there's enough difference between the two to make our experiences incomparable.  It would explain why your position seems so absolutely laughable to me, but that might only apply because I'm limited to the realm of xbox while you're limited to the realm of PC.

I meant that as a joke. I've got nothing agaist consoles, I've played on nothing but consoles since PS1. Though I do have to say, since I switched to PC late last year, my ps3 has done nothing but play blu-rays. The switch has made me realize that PC is indeed better, at least in my eyes.

The one thing I can say I don't like about ME3 MP on consoles is the consumables wheel. Makes the screen too cluttered.

I honestly don't want to peddle the Mantis as some sort of überweapon, it clearly isn't, I just say it has its (fairly limited) niche and used the Mantis as an example to show why overkill gety you nothing in the end.
I happen to think that the BW has its niche too, that niche is to kill absolutely everything that moves. 

On Silver, I loved the widow.
I just don't see what people see in the widow on Gold, and believe me, I tried.

At least the Javelin has X-Ray vision and a cool sound, I also like the trigger delay, once getting used to it.
The Kishok ignores shields and kills Banshees, that probably makes it the most useful One-Shot sniper on gold
Come to think of it, the widow is probably #3 out of the 4 one shot snipers on Gold.

That doesn't mean that somebody (i.e. you) couldn't dominate a scoreboard with a Widow, I've seen it done.
I just happen to think that its way easier with a BW.

You have no idea how much I wish you were on Xbox so that I could show you what I see.  I wish I could show you what I can do with the Widow in my hands.  And I say that not as some brag, but almost this need to want you to be able to see what I see, how I see it, why I feel so strongly about her.   I just don't get how anyone couldn't love her as I do, if they gave her enough of a chance.  But this game is HUGELY about a to each their own concept.  I guess for me it's just about someone being able to say "Ohhhhh, so THAT'S what  you can do with a Widow!  Pretty awesome man.   i can't use her like that but you should see me with the Black Widow!  Now with that, I can rape!"  and then we all just have some cooperative love fest with our guns, each respecting each others capability with them, and then singing kumbaya by the fire while roasting some marshmallows.
