You have a party of 4 consisting of a main character and 3 henchman called pawns. One pawn is of your own creation. The other 2 pawns are rented out from other players or from the game's supplied pool of pawns. When you are not playing the game, you can pim...err, rent out your pawn. It comes back to you with experience if someone rents it. You control the progression of your character and your pawn, not other people's pawns. There is an in game search and rating service for pawns.
Pawns gain knowledge of the world. So, they can help you in a quest if they have done the quest before while being rented out.
In combat, you can climb on large monsters and stabby stabby them in the face.
Day and night cycles matter. You need a lantern to see at night and the radius is small. Fire spells have the added benefit of providing brief instants of illumination. Wandering monsters come out at night in force. So, timing matters in your travels.
