All good stories! Here's mine.
[Apologies for poor spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax. I'm not a writer]
"I am the Catalyst. I control the Reapers." says the little AI.
"What? I don't understand." Shepard says in disbelief.
"I was created... blah blah blah"
The voice of the catalyst drones on, but Shepard is now focused on just one
thing. In order to defeat the Reapers, she must destroy this AI.
"Shepard to EDI. EDI, come in!"
"Here Shepard". EDI responds
"The Catalyst is a rogue AI housed somewhere on the Citadel. Find its source, but be careful! Don't let it control YOU."
"One moment... ... ... I have found the Catalyst AI core. Sending location to you now."
"Shepard to Admiral Hackett!"
"Shepard! Nothing's happening. The Crucible's not working! What's going on down there?" Hackett states in utter horror.
"Shut up Admiral and listen to me!" Shepard interrupts, "I need you to
concentrate as much firepower as you can muster at this location.
DO IT NOW!"
Without hesitation Hackett issues the orders, "Attention! I need all available ships to concentrate fire at this location. Coordinates coming now."
"Shepard! Shepard get yourself out of there!" Kaiden shouts in the comm. "Don't throw your life away!"
"Kaiden, I'm not going to throw away anything. I want a future. Our future. I'm going to fight for it with everything I've got. ....Trust me."
"I trust you. I love you. Always"
Outside the Citadel:
Two dreadnoughts draw near with a full complement of fighters.
"You will fail Shepard" drones the little AI.
"Oh? You think so?" Shepard walks toward the AI. Bending down to its height
and looking dead into it's eyes, "I am going to bring you down you souless piece of sh_ _!"
"You will die Shepard. Everything you love will die! I have full control! Your cycle is doomed unless you choose. I have been fair. I gave you options. My options. I cannot be destroyed. I will prevail. I always do Shepard."
"Not. This. Time." Shepards eyes narrow. She glances toward the approaching ships and prepares to make her escape. Renewed with hope, her injuries
forgotten, she struggles back down to Anderson's body. She slows as she
passes by, "Rest well my friend. You did not die in vain."
Running now, Shepard heads toward the white beam, picking up a Mattlock found clutched in a dead C-Sec officers hands. Explosions are rocking the Citadel. In the distance, Shepard hears the ominous blasting sound of Harbinger. It's coming for her. She quickens her pace, stumbling and slipping on the blood soaked slippery floors of the hallway. As she
nears the beam, two keepers block her way.
"Not today", Shepard says. She doesn't hesitate. Two quick blasts and the keepers are put to rest. More ancient murdered victims of that freak AI, Shepard thinks.
At the beam, she pauses. Will it take me down, or shoot me out into another corridor?
"Only one way to find out." Shepard mutters aloud and leaps into the light.
Meanwhile the little AI blinks out of existence as the fleet successfully destroys it's main processors.
Abruptly, Harbinger pauses in its pursuit of Shepard. The big roach machine
shudders as if in pain. The lights blink and flutter until they shut
off. Across the galaxy all Reapers simply power down. No longer under
control of the Catalyst, their purpose is lost to them. All Reaper
forces stop fighting. Dropping to the ground, twitching and finally
seemingly dying. Their torment over.
The allied races cheer in unison. They have done it! Although many have died, the galaxy can rebuild. All that is lost, can become greater than before because the races are united. Everyone, under the spirit of cooperation, will pitch in. It will take time, but anything worthwhile takes time.
Much later:
Shepard holds her son on her lap, glancing over to his twin sister who's softly snoring in her crib.
"You should have woke me up. It's my turn tonight" Kaiden enters the nursery.
"I don't mind Kaiden. You are leading that bio conference next week. I
know your exhausted from all the preparations. Is Liara going to be able
to attend?"
"I don't expect her to. She's about to pop that baby Out!"
"Shhhhh. I just got our daughter back down!"
Kaiden gently laughs and picks up his son. "Back to bed with you, little one."
Shepard stretches, laughing softly as her bones creak. She heads back to the master bedroom.
"What about you?" says Kaiden, following her. "The council contacted you
earlier today, didn't they. What do they want from you now?"
"Oh... the usual. Don't worry. It's nothing. Not really. Ok, maybe it'll be a bit risky, but you know Garrus and Tali are coming with so..." Shepard
shrugs.
"You're not ever going to retire are you?" Kaiden groans. "You're a MOMMY now!"
"Yes I am. And I'm a wife. And a Spectre. And an Admiral. And a friend. And a lover..." Shepard runs her hands down Kaiden's chest. "Come to bed
Kaiden"
"I'm the luckiest man in the galaxy!" Kaiden says waggling his eyebrows.
"Hah!." laughed Shepard. "You've been saying that for years... Kaiden I love you. I'm not anything more than any woman. I'm ... just me."
"Yah, but you are SOME woman!" said Kaiden as he lowered his head down to hers.
Years later
Garrus, Tali and their four children arrive at the spaceport on New Tuchanka.
"Garrus!" Wrex stomps up. "Hi Tali. You've got to hurry. My wife is already mad at me. She's pregnant again and you're making me late!"
"Wrex, really? Preggers again? Damn!" says Garrus.
"Everyone else is already at the house and drinking." Wrex climbs into his
transport, ignoring the stares from the Krogan milling about the
spaceport. He's a bit of a legend amongst his people. Decorated as one
of the most virile Krogan that ever lived. He'd fathered hundreds of
children.
"Are you trying to repopulate your race all by yourselves?" asked Tali.
"Hah! ... Nah!" lauged Wrex.
"Did Jack and Miranda really hang out at the Cit Station last week? When we
heard they were getting along... well, I can't believe it." said Garrus.
"You can thank Miranda's sister for that. Hah! She's one stubborn little
chit. She nagged them into making nice. Now they are best friends, if
you can believe that!" Wrex said.
"Not for one minute do I believe it. I'll have to see it myself." laughed Garrus.
"Are Kaiden and Shepard here?" Tali asked as Wrex smoothly navigated the 20
lane highway. (Tuchanka was a bustling planet. All races had set up
military academies there. Turns out Krogans method of combat is a
highly covetted skill.)
"Oh they arrived last night." Wrex said as he clearly hogged two traffic lanes while ignoring angry horn blasts from all sides.
"I can't wait to see them!" Tali said nervously. She grabbed the door
handle with one hand and double checked her kids seat belts with the
other.
"Shep! I want to see Shep!!!" said little Kiri.
"Shepard has a new fan" groaned Garrus.
Later that night...
"I'd bike to proposal, no... propasil, no... Oh Damn! A boast! To old vriends!" Jacob shouted drunkenly.
"It appears Jacob has become drunk. I fail to understand the need to drink
until you ..." EDI started to say. "You'll understand once we get that
new mod installed. I can't wait to see you drunk EDI!" Joker laughed.
Shepard stood on a balcony above the party. Looking down on old friends, more like family, seemed too good to be true. But it was true.
"Watcha thinkin?" Kasumi asked as she popped into view right next to Shepard.
"Just remembering all we've been through. It's ... it's ..." Shepard sighed. "How we are all alive today is just...."
"Amazing. Unbelievable. Impossible?" interjected Kasumi.
"Yah." said Shepard. "It's good to have a happy ending after the last few years."
The end
