So tell me what do you think: Is Shepard turning into an AI-god completely awesome and well deserved or do you see it as a fate worse than death?

People can say what they want about control. I pacified the reapers and Garrus made me a saint.

Both, in fact... Control is the pure essence of bitter-sweet ending. That's one of the reasons why it's so awesome.

Well, Control!Shep (what do you call that entity hereabouts?) won't see it as a fate worse than death because the immediacy of emotions has been lost. But there's full awareness of what has been lost.

Control surprises me. It has the least complaints, and the least vocal supporters. I guess because some seem it as an appropriate Renegade ending.

What is gained makes up for what is lost a thousand times over. And that's just for starters.

And we have many names. I personally like "Commander". It's a callback to Shepard but also fits the Reaper nomenclature of function as designation.

Well in terms of complaints Synthesis seems to draw the most fire. I believe we handle the ones that do come up fairly well. And no ending is purely paragon or renegade. Each has its aspects. As for least vocal supporters, I think we're most at peace with our choice. Synthesizers must constantly defend their views and most destroyers and refusers I've seen are more self-righteous than the Pope. So there's that. We've even had a theory that blue is the most chill color so... it's all good.B)

Yes, I meant "both awesome and worse than death" from player's point of view, not Catalist-Shepard's point of view. AI's feelings work differently. They just can't suffer or inspire in any way.

Control Ending has 4 different variants actually:
 - Paragon, Krogan cured.
 - Paragon, Krogan not cured.
 - Renegade, Krogan cured.
 - Renegade, Krogan not cured.

...Well, and 2 variants of each above. One for female Shepard, and one for male Shepard. So, 8 different variants in total. No other ending has so much variants :)

A fate worse than death, Shepard has to sacrifice everything to save the day, and dooms himself to become a machine.

It's like we are the 3rd party ending. Destroy and Synthesis are in constant discussion/war. We are watching the many.

It is definitely not worse than death. But it is still bittersweet. Although I'm absolutely satisfied with it, because it is appropriate ending for my character.

I'm both happy and sad, but indeed completely satisfied, because Control 100% fits my Shepard.

Some more interesting thoughts about the Control...

...Remember how easily Reapers cured the Genophage (locally for Saren's Krogan)? And how hard it was even for Salarinas, who created it. If not that "back-up females", cure could be almost impossible to complete... So, just imagine what biological knowlege does the Catalist have. Shepard-Catalist can share information which will boost Galactic Civilization's medicine like thousands years forwards.

On some level I find it awesome that Shepard has ascended to godhood, if you may. Its a fate well-deserved for Shepard. But its also a reinder of what my Shepard was, and what she's become. She is no longer the thing she was, she could no longer be reunited with Liara  and I find it very sad indeed.

You know, I think even Reapers' Indoctrination ability can be used in peaceful ways. To cure insane or depressed people, for example. Indoctrination doesn't have to be a "nightmare-only". It will depend only on who and how uses such mind-control... Like a hypnosis. It can harm someone, but also can be used to cure some mentally ill people.

Or what knowledge the reapers have stored in them. To throw it all away just because they are "abominations", I find it very stupid and frankly exactly how TIM describes Anderson: An old soldier stuck in his ways. Yeah maybe your Shepard views them as abominations but not mine. She'll choose to preserve them. Problem?

I laugh when I see someone with a "I chose destroy because papa Anderson told me" banner in blue. They really do a good job deluding themselves into thinking destroy to be the true "paragon" ending.
The only time I laugh more is when I see the "I refused" banner.

Indoctrination is submission to the reapers. Not a cure for anything. Indoctrination for a perioud amount of time will even make you mindless. I won't touch that thing. More so since it can cause indoctrination to everyone around it, not just for the "insane or depressed". Besides, it won't help anything, will just make things worse.

Well, we've seen indoctrination works that way, yes. But we also know that indoctrination is a mind-control ability. I think we can't just deny it can't be used for some good purposes. Radiation can kill a human, but it also can cure the cancer if used in a right way. Using mind-control to cure mental illness (like depression) makes sense. But this mind-control must be used very carefuly and wisely...

...Galactic Civilization clearly isn't ready to have such abilities. But Shepard-Catalist could use indoctrination to help some people, if they really deserve that help.

Indoctrination is soley based on the purpose of inslaving minds to work for the reapers. Indoctrination has a specific task. Maybe the reapers will be able to create another technolgy for medical help. But indoctrination itself is, well, indoctrination. Brainwashing.

You can't compare radiation to indcotrination. You can compare it more to mind tricks or something. Mind tricks can brainwash people (in this case, indoctrination), or get people out of a coma.

...Or they can calm people down, inspire them, force some dire thoughts to go away, etc. All of this can be done with mind control tricks (when they used wisely).
