With all the talk about "happy endings", what defines them, and such, it inevitably comes around to Shepard's survival So I thought I'd start a poll: Should Shepard be able to survive Mass Effect 3?
Note, this isn't a poll about whether you want a happy ending to the trilogy or not, it's simply a question of whether Commander Shepard should survive, and if so, under what conditions.

Of course. Shepard dead = Critical mission failure. Shepard derves to live and derves a chance to see her loved ones again. Anything else is a Reaper-Victory.

That's precisely why i made the poll. Shepard's survival may be integral to many people's idea of happy endings. But it does not in itself define "happy ending" I believe that bittersweet and even tragic endings are possible while the protagonist (in this case, Shepard) survives.
Which is why I'm curious to see what conditions people would find acceptable for Shepard's survival.

pretty much this. Shep living should be like getting the "happy ending" you either need to find an asian massage shop or do just about everything right in game. It shouldn't be easy to get. But he shouldn't "have to die" in order for it to be a good story.
