So lets be honest here, do we, as shepard, really need to know WHY the reapers stacked bodies up? Do we really need to know what their plans are? Do
we really need to know HOW they make a reaper? How is it a 'plot hole'
to simply not know something that hasn't been explained in the story
yet?!

Uh, no. You somehow confuse the two. One is indirect. Something that does not need to be explained in order for the plot to progress while the other is direct. You(Shepard) having an underwhelming conversation with the catalyst isn't remotely close to not knowing what the reaper's plans are for the bodies in the hall. If you can't see that then the only thing I can do is refer you to a college reading comprehension course.

Plus, let us remind you, smudboy, and everyone else on this page that the game is told directly from the eyes of Shepard. To my recollection, never once do we, as the audience, cut away from Shepard to learn a plot piece or twist before he does.

There's no confusion. You selected arbitrarty cut offs as to what bothers YOU with regards to the plot.

Of course the plot can progress without things being explained, did the plot halt after the Catalyst scene? No? So then what's your problem with the scene? The Catalyst controls the Reapers, you have 3 choices, you choose them, the end. You should have no problem with that.

The strengthen of storytelling often relies on the level of exposition and by adhering to the lore and theme established through the trilogy. You can't just add anything you want to the game because it's through the perspective of Shepard. Why were there bodies there and 1 Keeper poking at them? We both don't know. You could overlok that, that's fine. Other are free to point it out.
If the Reapers were slaughtering pink unicorns in that Citadel room, wouldn't you be curious why?

How did Anderson follow you up? Why was he not injured? Why did Coats not see either him or Shepard? Why were the walls shape shifting only in Anderson's path? How did he beat me to the Control room when there was no evident path besides Shepard's?

There are all questions people ask. I wanted to now these questions while playing the game, the entire sequence was confusing. The fact you're willing to ignore them does not invalidate other people's right in asking these questions. You also can't pick and choose which parts of the plot should be ignored then complain about other parts, like the Catalyst. There are people who have NO problem with the Catalyst scene - why are YOU complaining then?

That was literally, 20 minutes out of the first 20 minutes and I could do that for almost every single video he made.

No it wasn't. You don't like him or his analysis and it hurts your feelings, and that's cool. You don't have to agree with every point he makes, I don't. It doesn't invalidate his analysis.

Sure, but these major inconsistencies are not what I'm arguing about here. I'm talking about the little nitpicky "Jacob's LM heat sink" problems, that have no effect on the over arching plot. The things Smudboy loves to spend hours harking over in his videos.

I'm not denying ME3, or the series in general really, doesn't have plotholes/inconsistencies. It's the level of malicious pandering which Smudboy lowers himself to, which I find annoying and repulsive.

The example you used is a legitimate plot hole. Sure, it isn't major, but not every plot hole needs to be major. You're ignoring the smaller elephants in the room while only acting upon the larger ones. Thermal clips were a very recent invention, but the crew of a ship that's been MIA for ~13 years has them?

ONLY alliance Marines? We dont' know that. Most of the people who were left fighting on earth weren't soldiers. Plus who is to say that Marines aren't fighting with whatever they can find, including civ weapons?

You assume too much to say it's some retcon.

The only dead soldiers you see anywhere remotely nearby are Alliance.

It's unlikely it's a civ weapon, knowing the price of manufacture is very high (Remember the 6,000 credit toothbrush?), unless London just happened to be filled with gun-crazed rednecks who had a lot of money.

I really wish I hadn't watched those vids. Not because he did a poor job, but because he did such a fantastic one. Which is tragic. I think the phrase "cannot be unseen!" applies to these vids. Still, he did a great job. Granted, he did nit-pick some stuff, but he was on mark for about 90% of his stuff.

Its a simple fact that in a game, when a dev has to pick between accuracy and fun, that fun will most likely win out, and that's what that was about. And that's not to mention the time they have available to make it. Do they have the time to redesign Jacob's loyalty mission without thermal clips while still making it fun, smooth and interesting?

In the end though, it's a minor plothole that really has no bearing or significance on the plot or the subplots. It's akin to a movie blooper that made it through.

Which doesn't, in any way, invalidate its premise as a plot hole and status as a legitimate fault in continuity. Minor =/= irrelevant. Your complaint is non-existent.

Stop nitpicking.

And this is the point where we nitpick.

Really, we don't need to know the gun's history, it's serial number, the original price it was sold for, the list of owners and how many times its been fired.

Its a gun, likely dropped by another guy rushing the conduit. That's the extent of what we need to know. It doesn't matter that said marine was carrying a carnifex instead of Y gun you THINK he should be carrying. It's not like they just shipped out from basic training. They've been fighting a guerrilla campaign for weeks now and they fight with whatever they can get. I'm sure some soldier was like " Carnifex?! This isn't military issue! *toss* "

One thing I notice is there is two groups of people that comment on Smudboy's vids. One group that nod along with his assertions and find some measure of amusement/disappointment at being enlightened to another reason or point that proves ME3 plot was flawed. And the other group that finds a one or a few points (among the dozens) things they disagree with Smudboy on, then go on proclaim all his points are invalid, then proceed to close their eyes, cover their ears and scream "I'm not listening!!"

Actually it does and i just explained why but choose to stick your head in the sand. Each medium has its own limitations and I just explained the limitations of a video game. A movie or book would have an option around this but for a game it would take a huge amount of resources. Either way it doesn't really matter and you're just nitpicking.

That finds smudboy only has one or a few valid points that we all already know about, while making up dozens of insignificant nitpicks that really have little to no relevance to the story or the game.

fixed it for you. I mean i just went over about the first 20 minutes of his last video and all the stupid 'begging the question' points he had and really he had only 1 good point, but that's the same point we all knew about.

Smudboy is obtuse, pedantic and his entire shtick relies on logical fallacies of 'begging the question' and 'faulty generalization'.

You assume I can't tell the difference between gameplay and lore.

If that were the case, I would have died from brain hemorrhaging years ago from the inconsistencies in games.

Please, it would not be anywhere near a "huge amount of resources". For this particular scenario, it would free up resources if anything, since the only thing they'd need to do for a quick fix is just remove the reloading animation from the enemies. You're presented with the illusion that the enemies would realistically be operating under the old overheat system, and the plot hole ceases to exist. It fixes the plot and doesn't interfere with gameplay.

Hell, they wouldn't even need to do that. Just make up some explanation for the clips (They were prototyping it or something) and again, the plot is maintained and gameplay is unchanged.

Your complaint is non-existent.

So where would shepard get his clips from during the fighting? Are we just throwing baskets of clips around the island for 'loading points' for him? If so, where did they get those clips from?

How do a group of crashed civies, reduced to savages, learn to prototype an advanced weapon?

Like I said, gameplay and plot. I understand the difference. Granted, the transition from overheat to thermal clips is retarded, both for gameplay and lore. What is it you're trying to tell me?

How do a group of crashed civies, reduced to savages, learn to prototype an advanced weapon?

What advanced weapons was the Gernsback carrying? They had the same small arms Shepard and co. did. If they were prototyping something, that implies it was created industrially, so they had to bring it with them. I guess context isn't enough for people nowadays.

That your fix wouldn't be a fix. You either ignore it or you fix it all. Fixing it all AND providing a way for the fluidity of the fighting would take additional resources that would be better spent for the main plot line, not a sidemission.

How do a group of crashed civies, reduced to savages, learn to prototype an advanced weapon?

So they prototyped it 13 yrs before it was released when just last year NO ONE was using thermal clips? That makes no sense either. The Gernsback wasn't a high-tech alliance dreadnaught, why would they be prototyping anything? They're not even fighters so again, why would they be prototyping guns?

If you hate something and spend a lot of time examining it, you'll most likely find more things about it you hate. If you then spend hours upon hours writing about why you dislike it, recording why you dislike it, and splicing together footage about why you dislike it, you'll probably end up disliking it even more. He went in with the purpose of making it a hatchet job.

The confirmation bias is strong with this one. Smudboy's got an axe to grind, and he's just preaching to the choir. ME3's plot was flawed, but nowhere near the catastrophe Smudboy's built it up to be in his postings.

Edit: Just to be clear, there's a distinct difference between someone saying "I'm not listening" and "I don't care, that stuff doesn't matter to me." You should not conflate the two.

When does Smudboy ever employ a faulty generalization or beg the question?

All he does is feign ignorance to make sure he has no bias; when you critique a plot you approach it like somebody seeing the story for the first time.

No what he SAYS is that he feigns ignorance but what he does is automatically assumes that what isn't told to him at the time is plot-breaking and he goes out asking questions with the intent of proving that.

You keep using the term "feign ignorance", when it has already been established, that it is a completely unrealistic response to any medium. You cannot go into a piece of fiction, like a novel, with the same level of expectation you would when watching a film. They are incongruently separate from one another, so basing them as one criteria of expectation, is unfair and unreasonable.

That video was ****ing incredible.

His analysis of the viewer being able to see the explosions on the Milky Way galaxy at the end ALONE was ****ing incredible. I can't believe I didn't realize until now that we would be seeing the explosions 100,000 years in the future because of how light and matter work in traveling across the galaxy. Just...incredible.

Also, this pretty much confirms that Mass Effect 3 is broken, Casey Hudson and Mac Walters don't comprehend basic storytelling, science and physics and the ending cannot be fixed by the EC. Oh and there really was no point in playing...any of these games for the story. Yay. I'm gonna go for a run now and clear my head.

I also like the way he says that Bioware had no idea where Mass Effect was going, and were just winging it.

You cannot argue with science - and smudboy hits the nail right on the freakin head about matter and speed and perception.

I must admit that Smudboy is an aquired taste.  You either love his stuff (which I do) because he explains everything in a factual way - and doesnt try to upset people just states the things the way he sees them.

Or you hate him cos you love Mass Effect 3 and are so blinkered in your love for Mass Effect 3 that you cannot see the fact that ME3 is just so full of plotholes, glitches and rubbish gameplay.

Well done Smudboy.  for your 5 videos analysing Mass Effect 3 I give you 10 out of 10.

ps.  if i'd wanted to buy a shooter, not an rpg i'm sure I could have found one much better than Me3.

LoL confirmation bias. You can either like him b/c you like him and you're right or hate him b/c you're bias.

How old are you guys?
