Who did they tell ahead of time? IF you check here and their facebook, you got 2 days notice. 20 hours of this event, I was at work...and I had just promoted all of my characters several days before the announcement.

My friend had the opportunity to level up 3, but he prefers to keep them all at 20 and only level up 1 at a time. We both figured we had tonight to do this, so we didn't kill ourselves in between 8-10 hour shifts and my physical therapy.

This one just flat out wasn't possible for me. Never had more than an hour or two to play until tonight...only to come home and find out that the event is already over.

It really wouldn't be such a big issue...I'd be fine missing out, but these weapons level up SLOW. Assuming we as a community win from here on out, and I complete my objectives, it would take over a year for me to get all these weapons to X. It puts me off for trying...

LoL.
Not a Texan. Actually from Michigan. Grew up in Washington state. And yes, I am human so I make mistakes, spelling being one of them, especially when I am trying to type fast inbetween waves.

And as for whining... no I am not whining, I am just disappointed that the event was a short event. I would really like BioWare to address the issue with the splash screens not showing time. Many people are going to be screwed over.

Just wait... the posts about not getting a commendation pack are incoming.

Pretty disappointing. I had no idea this one ended earlier than the others. The forum post by Chris didn't mention any times, so I assumed it was the same as the others. Never saw the blog post. I already had 2 classes at 20, but was planning on having tonight to get my third. Went ahead and promoted it, hopefully it'll count.

5pm? Why did the game tell me about the event when I booted it up at 10pm central time? The event would have been over.

Whats 5:00 pm PST at GMT?

Great, thats a definite fail for me then since I promoted around 8:00pm last night GMT, pretty much gave me the one day to promote all three of my characters...

They need to add a timer, from one full day (24hours) before it starts and then the countdown from when it starts, it would be so much more useful for people way out of the PST time zone.

Seriously? I thought the event was ending on Monday at 5am like the others... That means I promoted like 3 hours late. :l

Elcor Pride, I believe it'd be 7 hours later in GMT so midnight.
PST = GMT-8
PDT = GMT-7 (currently in PDT)

Its a minor event for a video game. I'm pretty sure there are more important things out there.

You wouldn't see any of us New Zealanders complaining if one had fallen on ANZAC day. I probably wouldn't even be thinking about games.

And also it was a very simple challenge, plenty of forewarning, the world doesn't revolve around America and Bioware employees might have wanted the time off etc etc as other have said.

Hey thanks for the love Drummernate! But it's the internet, I EXPECT haters, that's pretty much Internet 101 amIrite? Plus... they really don't bother me.
What does bother me is how BioWare kinda dropped the ball on this weekend's event.
Besides the holiday weekend, many many people from EVERYWHERE are going to be screwed because they are going off the assumption of the timeline being the same as ALL the OTHER weekend events.
The only place I saw the timeline was in the BioWare Blog. Not the Operation Shieldwall Announcement thread and not on the splash screen.

They dropped the ball and we are about to have a lot of unhappy, or disappointed people not getting their packs.

my work permits me to play into the wee hours of the morning and then rest during the day. I was also disappointed to learn that I would not be able to promote one last character when i got home sunday evening because the operation had ended...

oh well...

Dropped the ball? Goddamnit, get off that high horse of yours for a second.

They set the challenge at a very low figure, and asked for 3 promotions. You were busy? Well that's okay then, someone else probably promoted to get the victory pack for you. Oh you missed out on the commendation pack? Well that's a shame, but you had to celebrate Memorial Day. Which is fair enough. That's all.

I'm really not sure why the "disappointment" comes into this at all. It was a holiday. Some people play a lot during a holiday. Some people don't play at all. Unless of course you're suggested staying away from games for memorial day weekend?

You couldn't play. Shame. Stop blaming scheduling and move on.

They run them every 2 weeks, this one happened to fall on a weekend when the minority of the player base had a holiday. This weekends was even a really easy one you could plan in advance.

I would be far more upset if they failed to have an op BECAUSE of memorial day

I think you're confused at to what the word "minority" means and entails. The American audience is actually a majority of the playerbase for BioWare games.

I guess both of you can cite your sources.

You misspelled Sergeant...please tell me you're not E-6 and don't know how to spell your own rank.

I laughed at this too. I mean, c'mon. :pinched:

It was a typo, I was also in the middle of a game while writing that between Waves. Sue me. I'm human and make mistakes, but thanks for pointing it out for me, never ceases to amaze me how people are able to talk trash over the internet safely behind their screens.

Yeah...sort of like what you're doing with this thread towards Bioware and its employees about the alleged disrespect for a national holiday, actually.  It *IS* amazing, isn't it?

And, what is it about people who believe that if you have any kind of opinion that isn't directly in favor of something American, you or your thoughts are automatically labeled as anti-American?  Have we really become so self-righteous in this country that everything has to be pro-American?  Don't get me wrong; I love this country and I'm proud to be a free citizen of it, but it's far from being Heaven on Earth.  Its flaws and faults are plentiful.

Not anymore, no. Even though Bioware HQ is in Canada, they're a division of EA which is American.

Yo, if I work for an American company, do I suddenly become American?

No, I am Canadian. Ditto Bioware.

Yes, let us remember a bunch of people who picked up weapons and killed another bunch of people who did the same to them, both of which didn't personally know each other nor have any personal grievances against.

Ain't humanity grand?

Seriously man... Each country has its own holydays. Get over yourself.

Sure, Bioware is a Canadian (and then US) company. But then, so what? Given the languages spoken on MP, I even doubt americans make up for the most part of the players (I end up playing with a crazy amount of russians and french for example). And if you think they do, you gotta check the rest of the social network. There are french, spanish, russian, italian and what not forums, where people are active too. Plus some non-anglo people (like me) who rather check the anglo forum (where I'm afraid to say, I'm pretty sure some brits, australians, canadians and kiwees also hang out).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but none in game cares about your holyday. And I wouldn't ask any video game company, (even a french one, or even Blizzard, who owned by a french company) to care about, let's say, the 14th of July, no matter how important this day is for me, or for my country. Cause that would be outright dillusional.

And, that being said, we don't care either that you are in the military, texan or the living avatar of commander Shepard. It's not gonna bring your point more weight or anything.

If it was on the Australian version of memorial day(ANZAC Day) I wouldn't be complaining. I don't see why an international event should stop just because one country in the world may have some national holiday.I don't expect bioware to cancel an event over our holiday, and I'm quite sure many people from other countries don't much care about why we can't do it, and rightfully so, it's just a game.

Sill American holiday which has no impact on the rest of the world does not make for an objective harder to achieve.

I suppose it's completely unreasonable to hope Bioware would have emphasized the fact that this challenge would be12 hours shorter than the previous ones? Especially when the forum post that announced it mentioned no times whatsoever?

Yeah, we're being unreasonable, this would have been way too much effort:

"Make sure you pay attention to the times, it's 5pm, not 5am, this challenge ends 12 hours earlier than the other ones."
