Weekedn events should just be longer generally.
A 'weekend' event should be longer? *Facepalm.*
It's called a weekend event. Am I missing something in translation here, or did a weekend suddenly span more than two days?
In that case, let's make a day longer too, I could do with some extra sleep. While we're at it, let's make the 22nd of every month rain cupcakes for 1 additional hour. That'd be legit.

Hey thanks for the love Drummernate! But it's the internet, I EXPECT haters, that's pretty much Internet 101 amIrite? Plus... they really don't bother me.
What does bother me is how BioWare kinda dropped the ball on this weekend's event.
Besides the holiday weekend, many many people from EVERYWHERE are going to be screwed because they are going off the assumption of the timeline being the same as ALL the OTHER weekend events.
The only place I saw the timeline was in the BioWare Blog. Not the Operation Shieldwall Announcement thread and not on the splash screen.
They dropped the ball and we are about to have a lot of unhappy, or disappointed people not getting their packs.
Dropped the ball? Goddamnit, get off that high horse of yours for a second.
They set the challenge at a very low figure, and asked for 3 promotions. You were busy? Well that's okay then, someone else probably promoted to get the victory pack for you. Oh you missed out on the commendation pack? Well that's a shame, but you had to celebrate Memorial Day. Which is fair enough. That's all.
I'm really not sure why the "disappointment" comes into this at all. It was a holiday. Some people play a lot during a holiday. Some people don't play at all. Unless of course you're suggested staying away from games for memorial day weekend?
You couldn't play. Shame. Stop blaming scheduling and move on.
1) Read my OP. I'm going to get my Commendation Pack. So I am not in particular one of the people who will miss out. But I feel for them and so I made this topic.
2) To everyone else who thinks I am trying to complain about having events on holiday weekends.... I AM NOT. However is it too much to ask that BioWare take into consideration ALL of the MAJOR holidays from AROUND THE WORLD? No. It's not too much to ask. It just so happens that this was a big one, and BioWare actually made the event SHORTER than all the other events WITH ALMOST NO WARNING. Events that fall on a major holiday from ANY country should be longer, NOT shorter.
So to sum up my position, I believe that BioWare dropped the ball. Not because the event was on an American holiday, that doesn't matter... I AGREE, but because it was on a holiday weekend that a majority of their consumerbase celebrates AND because there was INSUFFICIENT WARNING THAT IT WOULD BE SHORTER THAN ALL THE OTHER EVENTS THAT WE HAVE HAD THUS FAR. Which is going to screw over A LOT of people.
Trust me, the "Why didn't I get a Commendation pack" threads are coming. So brace yourselves.
These forums have taught me something about this community and the people here in general though.
Some of you must have miserable lives if all you can do is put people down and say things like, "Oh well, doesn't concern me I did my goal lol too bad so sad some suckers are mad hahaha."
The problem here was lack of communication. That is the problem.

That. Right there. It actually is a bit much to ask. There are a lot of holidays, and little authority on what differentiates a major one from a minor one. Memorial day is a major one for you. Plenty of Americans may disagree.
The 12 hour reduction, well, that might be a genuine problem. However, it's just 12 hours. It's meant to be a weekend event. People played, some people got packs.
There really is nothing to be even mildly miffed about.

Hell, the main menu screen only seems to show GaW status instead of news.

I want to know if I have enough time to lvl up QI and hack a pyro or Cerb turret when a Banshee appears?
Still haven't really got around to levelling infiltrator class back up. Shoulda done before promoting infiltrators lol.
Got the notification when the event started, haven't recieved the notification that it's ended yet, so I guess there's still time?

Scheduling it on a holiday doesn't bother me. Shortening it by 12 hours and posting the times exclusively on the Bioware blog, that is a bit disappointing. I didn't read the blog. I read the announcment on the forum. There wasn't even a link to the blog, and there was no mention of the times. I assumed it would last as long as the others and made my plans accordingly.
You're right it's not worth getting upset over, and I doubt many people are genuinely angry. But I spent several hours grinding to get my 3rd character to level 20 when none of it mattered. It would have been nice if they could have empahsized the fact that this challenge ended Sunday afternoon instead of Monday morning. It's not so much about the commendation pack as it is my time.

Ok, before I get started, let me say I already promoted 6 characters. So no, I am not butthurt that I won't accomplish a goal for myself.
Now, I've just noticed that Operation Shieldwall was a short event, from Friday 5pm PT to Sunday 5pm PT.
This would have been acceptable ON ANY OTHER WEEKEND. This was MEMORIAL DAY weekend, many people were either out of town with family or having a family based weekend and wouldn't get on until TONIGHT.
This is unacceptable. And before you say something like, "Well that's an American holiday, we don't celebrate it here."
It's a holiday for remembering our Armed Forces and their sacrifices, I'm pretty sure other countries have similar holidays. Oh, and BioWare is associated with EA... an American company, and BioWare has an office in America as well as many, many, many American employees.
Sorry, but this is not acceptable. And why was this weekend the only "short" weekend event. Most go until Monday morning, in fact many people are USED to these events going until Monday morning.
BioWare, I am officially disappointed in you. This IS NOT cool.
Sincerely,
Staff Sergeant Talon Westfall
US ARMY 1st Cav Div, Fort Hood Texas
thank you for your service.

Do me a favour mate. Your using the holiday as an excuse to complain. Your basically implying that their disrespecting the honoured dead because they had a weekend event, its simple if you werent there to complete it, then you werent. Done, thats it. What the absolute #### does memorial have to do with when the damn challenge ended, you disgust me.

Note to self - make sure weekend operations do not crossover with my birthday (or anyone elses), the Queen's jubilee, Father's day, Mother's day, pancake day, a day with a 'y' in it, a sunny day when I should be out with the kids and not glued to a computer game, halloween, zombie chocolate jesus time, dirty laundry day, that time when I'll be doing that thing...

For my part, I will rage against the fact that this operation happened while my GC died Tuesday. BW should have asked me if I was ready.
And BTW, obvious troll is obvious.

1. The holiday technically isn't even till Monday.
2. This is pretty much the easiest event to complete.
3. Bioware doesn't owe anyone anything.
