national holidays have no place in games, no matter what holiday or what country
That's quite the biggoted opinion you have.
Its the most reasonable opinion, a thing that affects only a small portion of the world should not take priority over the majority of the world.
Speaking within the community of people who own the Game, isnt NA the Majority?
At least half of that is from the US, so...
I mean country wise, USA is just one country so why should we be affected by them.

so you deserve special treatment?
I'm re-reading my post and I can't find where I said that. Please show me.
You said it affects a small portion of the world, and as far as the Mass Effect 3 Playerbase world, you were wrong.
My bad for correcting you. I'll leave this thread because I can sense some anti-american feelings going on.

finished a match against Cerberus no more than a minute ago and had Banshees spawn on round 7.
I think the operation may last through the evening.

What is memorial day?
I don't have that here and I saw plenty of people playing this weekend.
Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have fallen in the US giving the ultimate sacrifice (started as Decoration Day to remember Civil War vets, but really gained in prominence after WWI and WWII; it's for all vets, but particularly those who have sacrificed). It's also a time to remember those who have passed. My family does both (grandfathers both WWII vets; one has passed, and we remember all the relatives in the local cemetaries). Unfortunately, it has devolved over the years to where a lot of people just think it's a nifty excuse to have a 3-day weekend and have fun.
And to the OP, thank you for your service.

I also want to thank anyone else reading this who serves in an armed forces for their service to their country.
My 2 cents: The OP was frustrated that the event wasn't the same as every other weekend event. I think his point in mentioning memorial day was to say simply to emphasize that the lack of communication was particularly ill-timed for the American audience.
Secondly: Quit with the personal bashing. It's infantile. Just because Talon serves in the armed forces doesn't make him a representative of the US gov or its policies- nor should he be a target for your frustration w/the US gov.
That being said: Since Banshees are spawning after the cutoff...was the listing of the event as ending on Sunday instead of Monday simply a typo?

Not everyone plays on Xbox. And the PC data doesn't take into account Origin sales.
Also: I demand operations not starting at sleep hours in Europe every single operation weekend, because it makes us butthurt. JK, get over it.
And I'm getting sick of all the praise war veterans are getting. Can you please take that to another forum? Unless your grandparents were N7 veterans, I have no interest on their lives in this place.

They could put a notifucation on the opening screen with the GaW update computer when they post the notice on BSN. Thing is lot of people would complain that they were still not notified because they do not read those notices either.
Instead of going on a negative rant you could give them ideas to the issues you see, provide potential solutions instead of saying "you suck for ABC."

Holy poo, I didn't even realize that the timeline had changed - that IS stinky! Though I did promote 3 prior to 5pm, I usually play these wknd events late on Sunday nights.

In Europe we lost a whole night of time, so we should be angrier. In any case, I bet the blog was wrong and they actually make them count.
And college students should be demanding a total halt on operations for a month due to exams. If you can complain about a one-country holiday...

We don't typically cut events off at 5PM on the Sunday.
I will find out if this was intentional or a slip of the keyboard fingers.
PS - I feel your pain Talon. I served 20 years in the Canadian Forces myself.

Ok, before I get started, let me say I already promoted 6 characters. So no, I am not butthurt that I won't accomplish a goal for myself.
Now, I've just noticed that Operation Shieldwall was a short event, from Friday 5pm PT to Sunday 5pm PT.
This would have been acceptable ON ANY OTHER WEEKEND. This was MEMORIAL DAY weekend, many people were either out of town with family or having a family based weekend and wouldn't get on until TONIGHT.
This is unacceptable. And before you say something like, "Well that's an American holiday, we don't celebrate it here."
It's a holiday for remembering our Armed Forces and their sacrifices, I'm pretty sure other countries have similar holidays. Oh, and BioWare is associated with EA... an American company, and BioWare has an office in America as well as many, many, many American employees.
Sorry, but this is not acceptable. And why was this weekend the only "short" weekend event. Most go until Monday morning, in fact many people are USED to these events going until Monday morning.
BioWare, I am officially disappointed in you. This IS NOT cool.
Sincerely,
Staff Sergeant Talon Westfall
US ARMY 1st Cav Div, Fort Hood Texas
EDIT - The point is that the information on the event was located in one spot where the timeline for the event is concerned. And with no notification anywhere else that the timeline had changed from previous events. And to compound the issue is that there was no link to this blog information for us to check. I'm pretty sure the majority of players don't visit the blog. They either check the announcement thread here, or they get the splash screen on their platform/s of choice... neither of which contained this information.
The ball was dropped. Plain and simple. And THAT is what I am disappointed about most.
Well, all you had to do was promote three times which doesn't take that long.

I'm sorry it takes you three days to hit the promote button and accept three times.

Oh. wait - that isn't your complaint? You were able to complete the Operation without a problem? Guess there's nothing to complain about then.

The only thing weird about it already ending on Sunday, is that the other events have lasted until Monday. Unless it's just a mistake, the Banshees are still spawning everywhere for one.

I..... I'm so sorry you can't read.
He is saying that it is hard for other people who actually work to promote from level 1 characters if they promoted before the event started and was announced since this is a holiday weekend and most people are out of town or going to parties.
