I'm sorry it takes you three days to hit the promote button and accept three times.

Oh. wait - that isn't your complaint? You were able to complete the Operation without a problem? Guess there's nothing to complain about then.

I..... I'm so sorry you can't read.

He is saying that it is hard for other people who actually work to promote from level 1 characters if they promoted before the event started and was announced since this is a holiday weekend and most people are out of town or going to parties.

It was known quite a while in advance.

Ok folks,

After a quick investigation I discovered that, yes, the event was scheduled to go until midnight mountain time.

Any characters promoted after the 17:00 (5pm) posted time up to the actual midnight deadline will have those characters counted towards their total.

Cheers!

2 days =/= quite a while.

Most people do not check the forums every day.

Whew!  Being on Mountain Time myself, I freaked out when I heard the news that characters had to be promoted by 5:00 P.M.  I was very close to having my third character ready to promote, and bummed that I was unable to get a Commendation Pack.

Glad to see that I had until midnight.  I finished leveling my Vanguard and promoted him (total of 3 promotions this weekend) so I'm glad to hear that it counted for something besides my N7 rank.

What a relief!  Thanks Derek!

So that is 2 AM EST? Hmm I might have promoted my third character just after that. Might miss out on this pack.

While you make valid points, I completed the challenge in 5 minutes. I knew I was going to be visiting my family so I leveled my characters up before hand. Also, it wouldn't be fair to shut down a weekend event for the rest of the world either.

I'm pretty sure this event was a gimme in preparation for the DLC/ a makeup for failing several of the recent challenges. It should not be that hard for even a casual player to promote 3 classes assuming most players like to keep a few high level classes for silver+ runs, let alone the entire ME3 group to reach the higher goal.

It is unfortunate that some will be unnable to complete the task due to family committments, but sometimes schedules can't be accomodated and it is just one of many challenges that will occur giving them plenty of time to make up for it.

Hmm. I was planning to get it all done on Sunday but I had commitments to work.
Unaware that the event stopped at 5PM sunday I went on to promote three characters in the early morning on Monday because I just couldn't sleep.
Bit of a shame I missed out on a commendation pack :/ I really wanted to see if I'd get a Eagle III XD

Considering it take a minimum of 15 minutes to complete a Bronze and a quick Silver...you sir, are a liar XD

Although this event was easy if you had the characters, i had most of my characters around level 12 after a mass promote/credit spending with very little time to play!

Ok, before I get started, let me say I already promoted 6 characters. So no, I am not butthurt that I won't accomplish a goal for myself.

Now, I've just noticed that Operation Shieldwall was a short event, from Friday 5pm PT to Sunday 5pm PT.
This would have been acceptable ON ANY OTHER WEEKEND. This was MEMORIAL DAY weekend, many people were either out of town with family or having a family based weekend and wouldn't get on until TONIGHT.

This is unacceptable. And before you say something like, "Well that's an American holiday, we don't celebrate it here."
It's a holiday for remembering our Armed Forces and their sacrifices, I'm pretty sure other countries have similar holidays. Oh, and BioWare is associated with EA... an American company, and BioWare has an office in America as well as many, many, many American employees.

Sorry, but this is not acceptable. And why was this weekend the only "short" weekend event. Most go until Monday morning, in fact many people are USED to these events going until Monday morning.

BioWare, I am officially disappointed in you. This IS NOT cool.

Sincerely,

Staff Sergeant Talon Westfall
US ARMY 1st Cav Div, Fort Hood Texas

EDIT - The point is that the information on the event was located in one spot where the timeline for the event is concerned. And with no notification anywhere else that the timeline had changed from previous events. And to compound the issue is that there was no link to this blog information for us to check. I'm pretty sure the majority of players don't visit the blog. They either check the announcement thread here, or they get the splash screen on their platform/s of choice... neither of which contained this information.

The ball was dropped. Plain and simple. And THAT is what I am disappointed about most.

Ahahaha, way to fail, what the actual **** were you thinking when you wrote this? That you're significant enough to make a huge corporate business change their schedule, because some random dude is off celebrating warfare?

Like some smart guy once put it, "Humankind is an animal elevated in his own selfspun webs of significance". Jesus christ, way to fail.

I am really disappointed mostly in the community at this point. If you've never been in the military then how are you going to come here and treat this man who has volunteered to put his life at risk for the freedom of people throughout the world in such a manner? Yes this weekend's event was easier than others but many people still didn't even have a chance to get on for the few minutes it takes to promote. Not to mention that Bioware could have just looked at the calender a month ago and realized hey we are about to go to a every-other week format, if we start that now then our next two events will fall on major holidays, maybe we should wait another week.

Memorial Day is NOT celebrating warfare, it IS celebrating sacrifice. Please show some respect

Get some respect punk.

I would love to see these wimps saying that the military is bad go to war and try to defend their country.

I have no intention of defending my country or going to war. And I don't necessarily respect people who go to war, because it's so very against what I stand for. So no, I won't moderate.

OK, here's my synthesis of this thread:
Talon's OP really starts off with a lot of patriotic angst and flouting of the military credentials about a weekend event.
Some of the community salutes, others retaliate against Talon.
Talon replies to the community by engaging them in what invariably turns to flaming.
Valid points are made regarding the validity of touting military credentials and waving the 'merican flag regarding a video game community event.
Talon restates point as merely being an issue of poor communication (the only valid point to be made here IMO) on Bioware's behalf, still constantly argues with "trolls and griefers".

Solution: Talon should amend OP to remove military rank and all other such patriotic pretenses and just say that he's disappointed that Bioware didn't communicate effectively with its fanbase. Both rendered moot and somewhat accentuated by the fact that stated times didn't match up with actual event times.

promoted 3 classes when event began, took me 12 hours to promote them again day later from lv1. so i dont see the problem here as you got 3 days early warning. 12-14 hours is easily doable in 4-5 days.

I don't understand why this guy seems to be passing this off as some affront to his patriotism and service.

I spent 8 years in the Australian Defence Force, Army, and am now a Police Officer and if I couldn't take part in Operation Shieldwall due to my duty I'd suck it up and get on with life. This is unbecomming of anyone who serves their country; it's a goddamn video game. The OP made me feel genuine rage. To include your rank and pass it off as grounds for preferential treatment is downright insulting.

Pump up.

People die EVERY DAY so that you can sit at home and disrespect them and their ultimate sacrifice over the internet.

It might not agree with what you stand for, but fighting for their families back home and to end oppression worldwide was what they stood, and fell, for.

If you are not willing to fight for your country, why should your countrymen die defending you?
