But reallyI hated Ashley in ME3 (as much as I loved her in ME1) and Liara (who I generally hate) seems to have a lot more depth and interaction this time around.

Only because it feels more like a canon romance through the game.

Also - Ashley loses a bit more of her character by ME3 than Liara does.

Sad to say, but choose Liara. Ashley was amazing in ME1, but in ME3, she is a pure dissapointment. Liara has a much bigger role and better romance.

Liara's a bit too clingy for my Shep's tastes and Ash is well dead. He didn't get along with her too much in ME1.

One stays with you through absolutely everything, loving you unconditionally no matter what happens. The other becomes infuriated at you for merely being interested in other women and will turn her back on you not once, not twice, but three times over the course of two games because she's a massive tool who doesn't understand the concept of loving devotion to your partner.

One is a beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful, kind-hearted girl who goes through a lot of terrible things and needs someone to rely on. The other is a braying racist jackass who quotes poetry because she thinks it makes her intelligent when all it does is make her pretentious.

One is dedicated to nothing except her duty to her friends and loved ones, the quest to save the galaxy from the Reapers, and works tirelessly until she nearly collapses to manage intelligence throughout the Reaper War. The other one babysits some politicians and nearly fails at that, threatens to kill you because, again, she's a braying jackass who doesn't understand the concept of loving devotion, and who then proceeds to get ****faced and pass out on the floor of your ship between missions.

Yeah, I knew there was a reason I left Ashley on Virmire with a bomb and never looked back except to mock her failiure.

Maybe not but she was loyal and helpful none the less. Who single handedly faught one of the most powerful organizations in the galaxy and made an alliance with the devil just to save you after you died regardless of if you romanced her or not?  Hmmmmmm?  Shyeah.

Ash merely pointing a gun at you in ME3 > Liara blowing you up in ME3.

That's true, but unlike Ashley she actually had a reason for that - she was hunting down the Shadow Broker who, I remind you, she crossed in order to save Shepard from ending up a Collector hors d'oeuvre and can't afford to let go up for even a minute 'lest she loses all her progress again and the Broker ends up getting more people killed in his perpetual power-plays.

Ashley's reason for not helping you fight the Collectors? "Grr Cerberus grr! Even though you saved my life on Horizon I'm still mad at you because of Cerberus! Grr!"
