Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to post this since there isn't a modding forum (that I noticed anyway). So let me know if there's somewhere more appropriate.

Anyway, there's some gameplay issues that are really bugging me that I would like to remedy via modding. Preferably by manually editing coalesced.ini/save files if possible since finding actual mods that do what I want and only what I want are unlikely.

But heres the things:
First off I can't stand cover systems in games. They NEVER work half as well as I can manually use cover all by myself, you always get shot up with them while your character executes the dramatic lean out, turn around and bring weapon up in slow sweeping motion. While the alternative, just standing behind the object in the normal shooting position and side stepping around to shoot tends to work way better. So in ME I just ignored the cover system and used cover manually as best I could, which was often messed up by the auto cover mode that kicks in anytime you step too close to an object with your weapon out.

ME2 would be easier to cover manually since there's a cover button you have to press to go into cover mode, but since they eliminated the crouch ability and most of the cover seems to be low cover, it's almost impossible. It's very rare to find a spot with tall cover that you can stand behind.

So I absolutely need to enable crouch! To enjoy this game (at least as much as I'd like to enjoy it).

2: I really hate the addition of limited ammo in a game where the lore dictates it's supposed to be unlimited. If there were any way to have infinite "thermal clips" that'd be nice.

Also, has anyone made a mod to bring the original heat management mechanic back to the ME2? Ideally where when a weapon DOES overheat you can reload thermal clips and reset the temperature the way thermal clips are described in the actual lore (rather than just being an ammo limiter as they are in the actual gameplay - huge discrepency between the way they are described and the way the really work, always pisses me off). If not, why hasn't anyone made this yet? That just seems like the obvious first mod someone should make.

3. One of my biggest beefs with ME2 is the boxed in confined level design that really minimizes the potential to utilize your squad tactically. You can't really flank very well or establish crossfires because the level design creates such a narrow path that your just forced into one mindless head on confrontation after another.  But so much worse than that is this: Even where I can find an alternate route to send squad members down so we can surround our enemy and put them in a merciless crossfire: it doesn't work anyway, because even though these are some of the smallest play areas I've seen in a game in a very long time, they STILL have a squad member distance limit that can't be exceeded! So when I see three perfect positions to put myself and my team in where we can all be shooting at the bad guys: I put my team in their positions and then move to mine, but before I get to the third point, the other two leave their assigned positions and start running back to me because I'm too far away. They usually choose the route that sends them straight through the enemy too and get themselves killed before I can realize what they're doing and tell them to stop. Again forcing my team to clusterF*ck so to speak at some boring ass gamemaker engineered bottle neck, hunker down in one or two spots and slowly boringly shoot it out with the enemies until there's none left leaving SO much interesting environment un-played-in (all you can do is explore the cool sturcures after all the badguys are dead and imagine how cool it would have been to be fighting your way through them).

So if there's any way to dissable the distance limit between squad members, or at least increase it so that it's wider than any battle field (or more accurate a portrayal of the level design "battle alley"), that I'll find myself in: so that I can send my squadies where I want them, and they'll f*cking STAY there while I move around until the bad guys are wiped out and I give the order for them to return to me.

Also it has forever pissed me off that my Soldier class Shepard can't access ALL of the weapons and ammo types in the game seeing as how the whole point of the Soldier class IS to have access to all weapons, because soldiers are supposed to be the weapons specialist, and even though ammo types are considered a power in ME2 (which doesn't make any sense) rather than an equipment you'd stil lthink thats weapon related enough that soldiers should be specialists in that as well. The only ammo type that makes sense for Soldier Shepard NOT to have is Warp since it is a biotic thing. Everything else though, Shepard should have.

So, I'd like to equip my character with all of the weapons. All of the special weapons: Widow, Claymore, Revenant and the sub machine guns and machine pistols as well.

So I hope you guys can help me out with all that stuff and I hope someone is still active in the ME2 forums to read this in the first place haha!

So just to sum up a list of the mods I want in descending order from most to least wanted (but they're all wanted at least a lot):
  • Enable crouch
  • Disable squad member distance limits
  • Infinite thermal clips
  • Equip ALL weapons and ammo types
Oh, also my Firewalker DLC is failing me. On the first mission with the hammerhead it says to click right mouse to pick up research but when I do so nothing happens so I can't get through the mission. I've pressed literally every key on my keyboard in attempt to collect that crap and nothing happens. What's going on here?

I haven't tried it but I've heard that there is a way to get the infinite ammo + cooling system back. I read somewhere that they put it in so that the thermal clips really were an improvement since you could hold the trigger down until it overheated and then change clips instead of doing the ME1 routine of changing weapons or taking cover and waiting for the gun to cool down, but playtesters didn't like it so they dropped the idea in favour of the reload mechanic and a really weak retcon (no really, guys, it's miles better for sending more rounds down range than being able to mod your gun to fire continuously for like about a whole minute or more  ). I think it said that gameplay worked basically the same way in that you'd carry on reloading the weapon until you were out of thermal clips and then you'd revert to the shoot-cool down-shoot-cool down system. Supposedly this feature is still there in the game but the second part was disabled. I can't rell you how to enable it again so I know this isn't a lot of help, but I'm certain that I've read that it's been done so at least you know it's possible.

OH MY GOD This would be PERFECT, someone MUST know how to do it! Tell me, internet, tell me!
Also, what about crouch and squad member distance limits and ALL weapons, including all SpecWeaps and SMGs/machine pistols?

Crouching on command seems to be something they took out of ME2, and it's a pity for everyone who likes to crouch behind a ridge or obstacle with a sniper rifle fitted with two scram rails and hi-ex ammo and then stand up to loose off a shot before crouching again to let it cool down while the return fire sails safely over your head. ME2 tucked it into the cover system and I haven't heard of any way round it. Admittedly I haven't looked because it wasn't as big a deal for me as the cool down vs thermal clip issue was, and even that was only because I thought it was a really lame bit of retconning to talk about winning firefights by sending the most rounds down range and then using a new system that clearly didn't do that as well as the old system with intelligent use of mods. Anyway, I have a feeling I actually saw something about re-enabling cooldowns after you run out of thermal clips it on these forums somewhere. Unfortunately I don't think the search tool is all that flash.

Agree about the weapons too. Odd that the soldier class can use absolutely anything except an SMG. I know this is fiction but what, do soldiers develop an allergy to SMGs in the future or something? I probably wouldn't play a soldier class with an SMG to be honest but it's still a bit of weird thinking that says you can't have one. Can it be modded? No idea. Can other weapons be modded? Doubt it because the DLC weapons and armour are large enough downloads that it seems likely they're adding the weapon to the game rather than just enabling it, and you clearly can't mod the game to play with something that isn't there. Don't know that for sure, just speculation on my part, but taking the arc projector as an example that's a 4.6MB download, and I'd have thought that 4.6MB is way more than needed to enable something that's already in the game but currently not available to you.

Agree even more about the squadmates but I think moronic AI is a bigger issue there. I'd be happy if they'd just stay where I told them to until I said they can move again, instead of getting all excited and leaving cover the instant the last enemy in sight drops dead only to leave themselves exposed for the next wave. Stuck with it now, I imagine. And to be fair it's not as annoying as standing in a doorway and picking a couple of good cover spots for the team, watching them get into cover and then moving forward yourself only to trigger a bloody cutscene that finishes with your team out of cover again.
