Hi! So I'm a complete newbie at posting, go easy on me. Whether I try to import Shepard's face from ME2 or simply customize a new one- the only faces that show up properly are the default faces. Every other face appears as a shadow with eyes and hair. This happens for both male and female Shep. I tried playing the opening to see what would happen- Shep's face flicks in and out, sometimes appearing green, sometimes shadowed, and sometimes like it should.  Some of the NPCs had the same problem. The old lady on the council looked like she was standing in front of a strobe light.  My graphics drivers are up to date and I tried lowering resolution.  I'm usually a console gamer but I'm traveling so I'm limited to my pc. I have no idea what to try now.

Try repair install the game then run the game. Also, check for updates if your game is not updated.

Forgot to mention, I tried this the first time. Tried reinstalling the game today and did it again. It doesn't help :(

Also tried turning off my antivirus and downloading the new patch. No difference. Started playing the game with the default face. Some of the NPCs still have weird shadow heads though.

So I'm aware this is an older thread, but I also ran into this problem when trying to install ME3 on a new computer, and after a bit of frustration I found something that fixed it (for my case, at least). In the MassEffect3Config (I ran mine as administrator, in case that's worth something), turn off "Dynamic Shadows" in the "Video" settings.

I'm unsure if this will work for everyone, but in case someone's still struggling with this (rather annoying) bug and hasn't yet tried it, perhaps this will fix things. :)

Had a bug where I loaded a save game and my custom shep became default shep...quickly loaded a previous save before anything stuck.

Try setting your video resolution differently...try lower resolution first.

No one in this thread provided sufficient system information. I've heard of the black faces problem before, and it was caused by using unsupported hardware, like Intel's graphics chipsets. Sometimes using a recent driver on old Nvidia hardware can also be the cause. Nvidia has terrible driver support for anything but their newest cards.
