Anti-AFK System Explanation

The multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3 relies heavily on teamwork. It is designed to require you to communicate and execute as a team or risk failure. Having someone away from their keyboard/controller for an extended period of time takes away from this experience and can really frustrate a player.

With the release of Patch 3 we’re excited to announce our solution. The multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3 now has an anti-afk system that will automatically remove players who are idle for two minutes.
Some key points about this feature:

- The system will remove player’s after two minutes of inactivity. Once removed, the player will be placed back in the multiplayer menu and shown a message indicating what they were removed for.

- If a player is removed they will receive zero experience and zero credits from the play session from which they were kicked.

-  Player’s will not be removed from private matches

We understand that at times the player must remove themselves from the game immediately for a short period of time. As such there is no minimum time between being removed and being able to re queue for a match.

We still encourage users to report abuses like these to ME3MPCheaters@BioWare.com.

Regards,

Thomas Abram

Two minutes. I imagine farmers sit crouched behind their counter for that long waiting for the enemies sometimes, haha. Anyway: This is a most welcome addition.

Two questions: Does this apply to people who are dead for two minutes?
And could they avoid get around being kicked by simply tapping a button every minute or so?

Ok that's all great and dandy, but some people use rubber bands to simulate movement too. Any plans for something like that happening?

Great! I've ran into a few afkers before. They're annoying.

What would happen if i walk away from the game after i die? Would not pressing buttons for two minutes cause me to get kicked?

2 Minutes? I really am grateful you put in this timer, but I thought the company name was BioWare, not No-one-is-allowed-to-go-to-the-bathroomWare.

That joke sounded like it was in bad taste. And it was also awful. I feel ashamed, honestly.

Presumably the inactivity timer would "pause" during death, and not keep counting or reset. Just a guess though.

What about leeachers who are going to just move every 1 min or so, or use elastic bands so there constantly moving but dont have to play, I see this as... problematic.

Some games can detect when you've been holding one direction for an extended period of time (one JRPG I played punished you with a difficult bonus boss for doing so on the world map); presumably this could account for rubber-band movement.

The way I see it, 2 minutes is often enough that anyone who has to make a token effort on their controller to avoid being kicked for purposefully leeching may as well play the game rather than have to do it 10-20 times a game.

Still think score count would have been a better way for leachers to be kicked .

On harder difficulties on later waves, sometimes people get unlucky and killed by a banshee or phantom at the beginning of the wave. The remainder of the wave can sometimes lost way longer then two minutes... We won't get booted for being dead will we?

That was actually a great joke. Sometimes I have to hide in a corner to go to the spaceman/womans restroom or quickly grab a drink. How ever it could also be a great thing to use your huge stack of missles to wake up the player. However I'm thankful for this because it keeps everything fair and to point of the game.

That sounds pretty great. I guess people who really want to leech will find a way around it, but it should still help a lot.

Sounds fair... However could you define inactivity ? Does simply moving the mouse (for PC users) is activity ?

If it's the case, I won't be surprised to still see leechers in game who simply move their mouses every one minute and a half.

However, you have my gratitude for this measure :)

Edit :

I am French and I sincerely feel sorry for that. Next time (if leechers are still here), don't use any consummable and die at the beginning of wave 3. That should solve the problem : either the guy leaves and gains nothing, either he starts to work and you leech him ^^
