Then there's your servers, which make it so I'd actually prefer to take my chances with this cannon-fodder player instead of getting another teammate after he's kicked. You can't fill the spaces you're making by kicking out the cannon fodder, which makes the system even worse. My teammate goes to the toilet, and then I end up playing with a man down for the rest of the match.
This doesn't punish AFK boosting players, it just punishes the people who need to do short tasks during a match and the players who rely on their teammates. You would be wise to simply remove this system and instead replace it with the in-match kick option which we actually have been asking for (which gives the players control of the happenings, prevents good teammates being kicked and ensures AFK-boosters are actually removed.

Bioware, your foolishness has fell through again. Clearly, people are not as dumb as you seem to think they are. The system is flawed and doesn't prevent rubber-banding. So now you're only kicking people who are going for short periods, not getting rid of the one thing people are really miffed about.

agreed, plus most of the time i dont even get a teammate replaced by the end of the game. i feel like this will do more harm than good

A lot of what you say is true, but I know it is time to try something against the freeloaders. Why would you be gone for 2 minutes anyway during a match? Maybe a bronze, or if your teammates are good on a silver...but never on a gold. I think it is a start, but like most things, the AFK preventions need to develop. So long as it evolves, I like this as a starting point.

If you quit, you lose. FYI, most of those "person has left" messages are disconnects. The message it gives you is very inaccurate, and blames network issues on quitting. Do you realize that every "disconnect" you have had told the other players you are a quitter?
Just noticed from my rep that I have negative feedback from players saying that I've quit early. I understand what you mean.
It gets even worse than that. If *you* disconnect, it tells you the leader disconnected...you both think the other guy is at fault! You might notice though that if the round restarts, if it is now down to 3 or down to 1 player. I think the messages related to networking software failures (meaning the network isn't really at fault, it's the software) are intentionally misleading.

I was playing earlier and had to take two important phone calls in quick succession, hid in a corner and on the second found I'd been kicked, that's ok though I hadn't contributed to a big chunk of the match.
Sometimes real life gets in the way and your gaming suffers, that's life. It's not a perfect system but it's a start.

I just got afk' kicked thanks to the invincible enemy glitch lol well at least the afk kick is working now if we could just get those glitches fixed
You could always report the enemy for using an invulnerability cheat...unfortunately though, at the moment, you would have to remove the game to fix it

The auto-detect system did not prevent him from doing this.
How 'bout this? Let players quit matches with AFKers without the penalty of losing the equipment they have loaded - when the player quits, let them indicate which player was AFK. Put in some level of fraud detection (like corresponding quit reports from other players in the same match) and deny the AFKer any EP or credits for the match.

i might have posted this before, but i'll repeat it since it seems relevant to the current discussion: replacing the auto-kick feature with a vote-to-kick feature would be a great move, under one condition; the option to kick a player doesn't show up until ?? minutes of inactivity (3-5 minutes seems appropriate). that way, people who have a short task to fulfill can simply inform their squad matesand don't have to fear losing all their progress due to real life issues, while there still is a powerful tool against leechers. There is almost no way this system can be abused to get rid of players due to other reasons than inactivity. of course this is no solution to rubberbanding, but so isn't the now implemented system.
I like this idea.
- option to kick people in lobbies (as is now)
- no option to kick people when game starts
- IF a player goes inactive THEN an option to kick that player appears (timer based 2-5 mins)
- IF player reactivates, kick option disappears
Stops kick abuse, not really better than at the moment, but at least gives players the choice to kick or not inactive non-rubberband era.

Huh! I got matched into a Reactor/Reaper/Silver game (even though I asked for Any/Any/Bronze) and one of the players (who I think was the HOST...) ran to the other side of the map every wave and stood around until he was killed, leaving us a man down for most of each wave.
The auto-detect system did not prevent him from doing this.

Or let players simply vote to kick them, even 1 vote (if un-opposed) can kick some1 so even if u are being annoyed by leecher and the others are too lazy to care them u alone can kick him provided the others dont vote to keep him. Also it goes without saying that the person elected to be kicked cannot vote to keep himself. Such a system should not be difficult to do honestly... I mean we can kick in the mission ready screen

"vote-to-kick feature " is no good, players will abuse it. This is why I never play L4D 2 vs mode. Bioware, you can learn this mistake from Valve.
People vote to kick in lobbies. How is it any different "in-game"? One can argue that lobby kicking is abused as well. In-game kicking seems to be the only real way to deal with AFK'rs.

The one I noticed yesterday was a player shuffling around and just aiming at the sky with a pistol. They finally came back to the game after a number of waves but I did get myself killed trying to rez them earlier on before I figured out they were undoubtedly not there.
samething happened to me as well last night guy came in on a gold match with a freaking krogan on gold and kept dieing and everytime i goto rez him samething happened to me i kept dieing trying to save him . then finally he either got the kick from anti-afk or he got a disconnect either way i was glad but then his buddy reinvited him and he came back for a wave b4 finally leaving or so even tho the afk system is flawed its a start . even if its a small start its still a start.
