Assuming that not pushing a button while dead does not count as being afl, does the anti-afk kick timer reset each time a player dies? What I mean is can this anti-afk system distinguish between an unskilled player who dies frequently and one that simply leaves their character parked in the most hazardous part of a map and goes afk?

^This
system is not efficient enough.i support the ingame kick feature for other reasons as well as afk.bring up scoreboard highlight player add X end of the story

Two minutes? That's awfully short... Only one round on silver, most of the time. Not even a full round on gold. What about emergencies? Or the bathroom? Jeez.

This is terrible. I'd rather deal with the leechers, considering I only run into one perhaps 1 in every 20 games. How about you guys re-evaluate? Give the time 5 minutes. That's much more reasonable.

WTF are you doing during a match for 2 minutes you can't move the controller? Do you people have the bladders of a hamster you can't hold it? I'd hate to take a roadtrip with the whiners on this thread.

If you have an emegerency then you won't be rejoining after 2 minutes since nothing that is an emergency takes 5 minutes.

First of all, keyboard and mouse. ;)

Maybe not a medical emergency, but what about an important phone call from a family member/friend/boss? What about answering the door for a package or friend who decided to stop by just a little earlier than you expected? Plenty of common occurances that can take more than two minutes.

2 minutes is stupidly short its very easy not to move for that length of time

besides if its the host chances are the whole game will be scrapped n e way

also if i have to stop now for what ever reason im just gunna have to suicide
and put myself out for the whole wave rather then just stop and restart when i get back im pretty sure this will hurt the team more then if i just crouch down while i get the door

The system will kick the dumb leechers:D but the smart ones will have a key hold down or rubber band attach to the controller :(

sounds good!
and to those of you who think you need more than 2 minutes during the middle of the game... why are you playing public anyway?? if you have to stop for every little thing why don't you do us all a favor and avoid public matches altogether... don't make your menial day to day boring crap sound more important as it is. you need to figure how to tell people nicely "JUST A FEW MINUTES UNTIL I AM DONE PWNING THESE GETH!!!" I mean really, priorities people. also if you if you have to pee that bad you probably knew BEFORE the game started and were too lazy to get up and do it until you were about to wet yourself... thats on you.

I am still going to use the avoid feature on anyone that takes that long anyway.

Y'know, I really don't think this system was implemented for leechers. It seems like it's in place to keep people who take long breaks from reaping spoils that they didn't earn. I've fallen asleep during late night matches (completely my fault, I still like to think I'm young), and I know I certainly feel bad if I wake up alone at the menu screen, whether we won or not.

Anyone who needs a bathroom break - or any other real-life break - during a game that takes around a half-hour is someone I don't want in my match. Take care of your business before or after the match; there is no pause feature and increasing the burden on your remaining teammates is very uncool.

I'll be just as happy to see those people kicked as I will the AFK leechers, and I hope this at least puts a dent in the problem.

Maybe like they said they're going to the bathroom?

Not everyone is as fast as you or other people. As I know it definately takes me around 2-4 minutes to phyiscally get up, go to the bathroom, wash my hands, and come back. God forbid those who live with a bathroom that is a long distance in their house, or god forbid those who play this game while sick and there-for have a random bowel attack. God-forbid you just leave for a minute or two in a match and lose everything because of it.

So yes, expect people to hold in their bowels for the sake of a game. That's the kind of healthy behavior we want to promote. It also shows you expect people to have the same bowel strengh or tolerance as you do.

They don't

Or maybe they expect sick people to take their medicine and stay in bed, not play video games. Or expect people to take a dump between games, not between waves.

A lot of the time sick people have to have a way to pass the time. Besides that, you come and tell me to take a dump inbetween games when you have to go, in the middle of a game.

Personally, I think 3 minutes would be much more fair, but it's not a huge deal.

Two minutes is kinda' short... How about 5? I often have to do things.
Also, will we get kicked from Private Matches? - Didn't read the whole thing.

"What if we're just waiting behind cover for two minutes?"

Do you honestly just sit behind a wall and keep your camera focused on one point for extended periods of time?

If I have to get to cover somewhere, I keep my camera moving so I can watch multiple angles of approach so that things don't sneak up behind me. And, honestly, if you're really sitting behind one piece of cover doing absolutely nothing for two minutes, you're doing it wrong.

Some games can detect when you've been holding one direction for an extended period of time (one JRPG I played punished you with a difficult bonus boss for doing so on the world map); presumably this could account for rubber-band movement.

The way I see it, 2 minutes is often enough that anyone who has to make a token effort on their controller to avoid being kicked for purposefully leeching may as well play the game rather than have to do it 10-20 times a game.

Still think score count would have been a better way for leachers to be kicked .

Not a viable option. in a gold match you can easily see people who have like 15K score and someone with 110K before wave 7. Doesnt mean they are leeching or AFKing.

How I would have done it, is implement friendly fire.

If User is afk 2 mins, friendly fire is turned on and player is killed.   If friendly fire is activated a 2nd time and player is killed by friendly fire a second time... He is removed from the game on death.

1.   It gives that player more time to return if its a emergency.
2.  I get the satisfaction of taking out my annoyance at afker with a bullet.

:)

What if I am defending my position,as my team wanted and nothing comes my way for 2 mins?

I am sorry to point this out, but yours is a stupid view. there is this old saying "Nature is not reliant on a clock" meaning when you gotta go, you gotta go. I  personally would have made the AFK timer bring up a kick menu instead of automatically kicking them, so if a person has a valid reason to AFK, say a bowel movement he did not foresee, he could just say so to the team, and if the team isnt filled with idiots, they will keep him in the game.

As is noted in the original post, private matches are exempt.  If someone has that much trouble with their bowels and bladder, they can either play with friends who will understand or ask during lobby time for the match to be set to private before everyone keys ready.

I'm not completely unsympathetic.  If someone suddenly goes AFK after being productive, I'm not going to curse and spit about it and I'd commiserate with someone who lost XP/credits because it happened to them.  BUT, a random player's waste elimination issues shouldn't be cramping (ouch) my style, either.

I consider calling my view "stupid" out of line.  It may be cruel, but I'd rather have someone dropped in randomly who might be able to help out rather than trying to deal with the complications of a sudden and lengthy AFK.  If I advocated banning them from multiplayer or similar, that would be stupid.  As it is, I just don't think they deserve credit for a mission in which they were unable to fully participate.

I don't attempt to kick people from lobbies for low N7 ratings, iffy weapon/class combinations, low-ranking weapons, or truly terrible Gamertags (I've really wanted to!).  All I expect in return is a concerted effort.  If people need a longer time delay (or none), how about we suggest putting that on bronze matches while leaving the 2 minutes in place for silver/gold.  Those with such sensitive constitutions that they can't make it a half-hour without a break can still get fun, money, and XP, but they'll get it from situations where the risk of spoiling the fun for the rest of the team is much smaller.

If you guys need to take a break for more than two minutes then you should really leave the match, anyway. If you're sick, have IBS, etc., then don't play multiplayer. Case in point: I recently had a baby (well, my wife did). When my wife is upstairs resting and the baby fussy in her swing next to me, I don't start a multiplayer round. I play single player, play something else or watch Hulu or Netflix. Still, there have been a few times when the baby unexpectedly started fussing while I was in a match, but I exited the game so that someone else could join in. I lost some credits, but that was the responsible thing to do for both my baby and my team mates.

If you're going AFK for more than two minutes, just leave the game.

5 minutes is way too much.  A good gold game lasts 20 minutes or less, that's being afk for 25% of it.  I would be fine with 3 though.

What on earth are you people eating/drinking that makes you have to go so urgently?  A game lasts 20-30 minutes, its a pretty short amount of time to have to hold it unless you've got food poisoning.  What on earth do you do on an airplane when the fasten seatbelt light is on?  Or long road trips on highways with exits that are an hour apart?  Or hour long meetings at work?

I suppose if its really that bad you could just keep an empty coke bottle or bedpan next to your computer . . .

Sounds good. 2 mins is definitely not too short imo. Should be given a try and see how it works before denouncing it, at least they are trying something.
