Sometimes you just need to step away for a few minutes.

5 minutes is way too much. A good gold game lasts 20 minutes or less, that's being afk for 25% of it. I would be fine with 3 though.WaffleCrab wrote...

who needs a bathroom break - or any other real-life break - during a

Take care of your business before or after the match; there is no pause
feature and increasing the burden on your remaining teammates is very
uncool.
I'll be just as happy to see those people kicked as I
will the AFK leechers, and I hope this at least puts a dent in the
problem.
I am sorry to point this out, but yours is a
stupid view. there is this old saying "Nature is not reliant on a
clock" meaning when you gotta go, you gotta go. I personally would have
made the AFK timer bring up a kick menu instead of automatically
kicking them, so if a person has a valid reason to AFK, say a bowel
movement he did not foresee, he could just say so to the team, and if
the team isnt filled with idiots, they will keep him in the game.
What on earth are you people eating/drinking that makes you have to go so urgently? A game lasts 20-30 minutes, its a pretty short amount of time to have to hold it unless you've got food poisoning. What on earth do you do on an airplane when the fasten seatbelt light is on? Or long road trips on highways with exits that are an hour apart? Or hour long meetings at work?
I suppose if its really that bad you could just keep an empty coke bottle or bedpan next to your computer . . .wirelesstkd wrote...

game so that someone else could join in. I lost some credits, but that
was the responsible thing to do for both my baby and my team mates.
If you're going AFK for more than two minutes, just leave the game.
Exactly!
Wow sir, you must be the first person i have ever heard of who;
-Urinates and excrecetes like a clockwork.
-Eats and drinks at the exact same times everyday to make the above thing possible.
-has no idea how the human body works. More precisely metabolism. (normal human metabolism for solid food is anything between 9-15 hours. depending on race, region where you live, age, and the food you consume.) and 1½-6 hours for liquids
-Has absolutely no emergencies during the game play EVER! that could be solved in a couple of minutes, without having to leave the game.
Holding it can later lead to problems if you make a habbit of it(especially on your senior years) When you gotta go that actually means your body is demanding it. The importance is higher during summer, as urinating also removes excess heat from your body.
and for the rest of your message: For airplane trips normal people usually do their things like a couple of hours before hand. Your seriously expecting people to think something like that if they just come home from work and want to relax with a game or few.. NO! As for roadtrips, hey theres that open scenery right there on side of the road... water the flowers? or give em some nutrients?. As for the meetings. Have you ever been to one? they are more and more like conferences these days. unless you mean a board meeting which propably would apply to somewhat 0,00001% of the worlds population. Modern in work meetings regardless of the field, are open meetings. people come and go as they need to, and the meeting halls are usually right next to the lavatory areas.
Just some examples: Universities auditoriums, allways have a lavatory area within 10 meters from the door. there are no exceptions to this rule. Modern conference centers have a lavatories within 20-25 meters from the conference hall entrances and they usually have larger and more clear signs than the damn emergency exits.
Modern in work meeting policies (atleast in europe Regardless of the country) dictate that for every hour spent sitting = you have 10 minutes to freshen up.
Please take my advice. Go outside, live a little, learn how things work. And you might see how making the time from 2 minutes to 5 minutes can make all the difference. even if you live in a small flat like me... with my friend, and 2 dogs.

I'm happy with this, including the 2 minute timer. I guess I'm one of those "body works like clockwork people." And if there's really ever an emergency that necessitates me stepping away from the computer, I don't mind getting kicked. Honestly, I probably encounter 40+ leachers for every personal emergency. Well worth it.

people complaining about fear of getting kicked when using cover, how often do you sit in the exact same spot with out firing a weapon moving slightly or checking your suroundings while your at your key board? When i take cover i always check the sides strafe along the cover trying to see as much as i can so i know what is where.
People who need to use the bathroom, thats all well and good if its that urgent do it if you get dropped you know why besides you dont really lose anything until the later stages so what is 15mins going to cost you this is only a game remember that. I play other online multi player games and some servers have an AFK bot that puts you in spec after 15 seconds and boots you from the server after a minute. But i would be in suport of being able to re-join the last match 3-5mins after being kicked this would allow someone who was going to the toilet to rejoin the game and not lose what they had done the team would 9 time out of 10 be back to a full 4, but this should be a 1 time thing and it should be a stricter AFK bot say down to 1 minute.
The only way around the leechers using the rubber band weight or drinking bird is some kind of repedative movment alert. Which given the nature of the cover system in game could be a bit harder to code to only kick those who are leeching (but i dont know i have never done any codeing).

Yeah, clockwork has nothing to do with it. I can feel that I'm 'able' to go long before I 'have' to go. Basic bladder control is something most people learn before the age of 5. If I'm able to go, I make sure to take care of things before the game starts.
-Has absolutely no emergencies during the game play EVER! that could be solved in a couple of minutes, without having to leave the game.
If you are talking about 'real' emergencies, yes I've had to leave games before. But I'm respectful enough to other players to actually leave the game rather than sit around as deadweight, because I know how I feel when other people go afk during a match. If you are talking about 'bathroom emergencies,' only when I had food poisoning, and again I just left the game.
Holding it can later lead to problems if you make a habbit of it(especially on your senior years) When you gotta go that actually means your body is demanding it. The importance is higher during summer, as urinating also removes excess heat from your body.
There is a difference between 'having to go' and 'being able to go.' If you are that concerned about never holding it, just go to the bathroom every 30 minutes (and make sure to set an alarm to go off every 30 minutes when going to bed for the night
and for the rest of your message: For airplane trips normal people usually do their things like a couple of hours before hand. Your seriously expecting people to think something like that if they just come home from work and want to relax with a game or few..
Yes, I do expect that if a person can't hold it for 30 minutes. It takes 2-4 minutes to take a ******, do so before you join a lobby if you have issues. Its a matter of being respectful to your teammates and not expecting them to carry deadweight for 20% of the match.

Thing is, if you leave a meeting you are missing out on whats being said. I don't know what sort of job you have, but at my old job I had to have an understanding of what each team was doing so I could properly facilitate their work and plan ahead. If a meeting was going to be over an hour, we'd take a 5-10 minute break in the middle. I'm not going to ask everyone to please pause cause I have to tinkle, nor am I going to interupt the meeting by standing up. I could just ask someone later to fill me in on the few minutes I missed, but that creates issues if someone says something that requires my insight or if I need to ask about a specific detail.

Some people can't, I wouldn't deny that. But, those people with chronic problems are likely wearing diapers anyway. That's not a dig, it's just the facts. As for transient illnesses, I say I'm sorry you're sick but, again, why would that be my problem?JackumsD wrote...
Why would you be going to the bathroom or leaving the game for more than two minutes during a 25-30 minute match? Surely you can hold it in that long.
There's a whole single-player Mass Effect [1/2/3] experience available for those who need to be able to pause a game.
This whole "but someone might have to use the bathroom" argument seems to be a creation of those who want to find something bad in any change Bioware/EA makes. The excuse that someone might sit behind cover doing nothing for 2 minutes is an even more ridiculous example of the same thing. There are 11 waves which in my experience take an average of about 2-4 minutes each (44 minutes would be an exceptional case; 25-35 minutes is what I find in the average pick-up group). So, 2 minutes could be an entire wave and 5 minutes could easily be two.
I admit it: I'm not a good enough player to regularly carry an AFKer through multiple waves on Gold or late Silver, nor should I have to be.
If Bioware had made the time-out 5 minutes, some of the people in this thread would be calling for 10.

something
Some people may or may not be able to tell as accurately "when they are able to go" or the signs for it maybe subtle, Sadly that may not have nothing to do with illnes or age. People are different.
If a team cant handle someone being AFK for 2-3 minutes because of something he didnt see coming happened. Instead would like the person to lose the things they wasted time on, and start again, Then i dont see them as a team, and i extend the same courtesy for the people i play with. i give them leeway, if they dont come back, we simply boot him in the lobby, simple as that.
There is a difference between 'having to go' and 'being able to go.' If
you are that concerned about never holding it, just go to the bathroom

Ok now your just being a smartass about it.

Each time they go down, your carrying dead weight, so why bother. leave the game then
Thing is, if you leave a meeting you are missing out on whats being

Would your boss rather want you focused, or only semi focused when your not sure wether or not you should go in the middle of the meeting? So far i havent worked in a company that did not extend the courtesy of giving them a five if they needed to relieve themselves during a meeting. I worked on a field where we rarely had even a minute or 2 before a meeting, i am sure where you worked(sounds middle management or higher, would explain why it sounds so detached from a regular worker) you had plenty of time before hand to do your business. But again, the work environtment you hinted at propably has some of the smallest minorities of the workers in it. for vast majority of the people. meeting usually means something you do in between different tasks at hand. Say for a housing manager/HVAC maintenance guy that would most likely mean, your off 3-4 hours working on your territory fixing things, then you drive up to the HQ, have the meeting right there, right then, and go back to work, So its only natural for someone whos holding the meating to want the employee to be focused, instead of worrying if he can hold it or not? Am i right? Also on most fields the meeting time is not set, it could be anything from between a few minutes to a few hours. and no one knows how long it will last till it is over, call it human element.
And none of this is relevant to the matter at hand, not being able to
hold your bladder for 30 minutes or being too lazy to go before the
match starts.
It is relevant because that is the style of design public buildings have been taking for a long time now. If there is a public place, used for meetings, lectures etc. people need to relieve themselves the most, when doing something while sitting. I thought you would have understood that... having being a middle management man and all.

Yes it pretty much does, atleast a hell a lot more then the guy with the 110K having to be afk for 2min 1s means heas a leecher.WaffleCrab wrote...
Not a viable option. in a gold match you can easily see people who have like 15K score and someone with 110K before wave 7. Doesnt mean they are leeching or AFKing.
Seriously a retardidly short timer only causes problem to normal players not leecher who can just do somethink every other minute.
Also really nice that someone having a to take a little over 2min break can easily take away half the xp from team, that makes lelev upping fun...............not.
