The same friends are now telling me to not bother playing ME3 till the end and some of them didn't even bother finishing it.
I didn't play ME2 because it was FPS (ord 3rd person shooter, w/e). Is a shooting game and I was a bit of a snob about shooting games. My toons wielded swords and bows and staffs, perhaps a gunblade or a keyblade but never a rifle. ME2 changed all that. It's story was above and beyond my expectations and "cured" me of my prejudice against shooters, they can be lots of fun and they can have a story as good as the JRPGs I love.
I will definitely recommend ME2 to my friends . ME3 ? Well, no I will not recommend it, unless the free DLC makes a miracle change to the plot.
I can't even bring myself to finish it. Story is full of holes and kills a lot of the fun of ME2. What is the point of geting the Catalyst and the crucible made if you are just going to condemn vast swaths of the galaxy to starve or die ? Ya it was fun soloing a Reaper ship by dancing in the line of fire but what did that accomplish ? Nothing.
I'm going to try to bring myself to finish ME3 but can't see myself recommending it or buying any dlc.
What about you ?

ME3 by itself though? No. I feel like missing on ME1 and 2 makes you far less attached to the characters, who are for me, one of the strongest qualities of the game.
'Sides, you can see it was rushed on many places.

Now we're all pissed together about ME3. Even at work when customers ask about ME3, we really don't recommend it. In the case of ME fans who are real curious, we recommend waiting till the price drops way down.

I'd recommend it to anyone who asked for a well developed, fun, interactive gaming experience.

Done. Recommended my friend pick up ME2 and ME3 when she got her PS3. ME3 came with the PS3 and she will buy ME2 when she gets the chance.
I'd recommend it to anyone who asked for a well developed, fun, interactive gaming experience.
Then why are you recommending ME3?

If they have played 1 and 2... I'd leave that up to them. Not seeing the end to a trilogy is frustrating, but the end to ME3 is poor, feels out of place for Mass Effect, and frankly is more than a little painful for someone who has invested a lot of time in the trilogy.
On the other hand, the vast majority of the game is fun, and parts of it are very good, even if it has significant flaws as a Mass Effect game (beyond the endings).

I have a friend who has played 1 and 2, but is only up to just after Mars in 3, they begged me for spoilers, I caved.....I think they want to hurt me now
It does'nt help that I told them two of their fave characters are going to die, I'm just glad they're a Kaidan-mancer, unlike me. If they had done to Kaidan what they did to Thane....Nowhere would be safe from the wrath.

i would say. the ME seris is brillent as a whole. it's only the last 10 mins of game play that ruin 3. but don't let it ruin the fun.

Funny thing is that I rather liked that the game teaches tolerance and respect for an individual's choices, including LI, and teaches how people (humanoids) live with the consequences. I got the impression ME2 was very big on that. That is something I want my kids to learn.

I recommended the crap out of ME2, still do in fact. ME1 I didn't really recommend too much, but after ME2 I got so many friends on board. We all ended up in the same boat, we liked ME1, but loved ME2, recommended it around.
Now we're all pissed together about ME3. Even at work when customers ask about ME3, we really don't recommend it. In the case of ME fans who are real curious, we recommend waiting till the price drops way down.
Well, tbh, the combat system in ME1 was ... sub-standard, even for those days.
However, I had the feeling my deicisions -do- something in that universe. Some were large scale (Rachni Queen, Council), others were more personal (saving Feros). And one decision is about love and taste: Virmire. Actually, the Virmire-decision is the only one the player can decide freely without consequences on morality.
In ME2, my decisions did matter even more 'though they were on a smaller level in general. The one and only big decision with huge consequences before the Suicide Mission was the Heretics decision. All other decisions had an effect on a smaller, but more personal level - which gave the illusion your decisions DO matter.
The combat system was decent 'though I missed the upgrades and the cool down for guns.
Well and in ME3? Combat system decent but clunky sometimes, too many actions on one key. You do have to do some large scale decisions: Cure & fate of Krogans, fate of Quarians and Geth, fate of the Rachni (again), fate of the entire galaxy. Well, the last one is more academic since we don't know how things turn out and the endings nix all other decisions done in the entire series.
I'd say, gameplay-wise ME1 is quite weak compared to the rest, but RP-wise ME1 and ME2 are far superior above ME3 which comes with autodialogues and less RP-elements than the parts before. Assigning skill points does not change a shooter-game to RPG! It's character interaction, focus on INTERACTION. ME3 is more an interactive movie with lots of action but lacks the essence of a RPG like ME1 and ME2.
