You got me on the Archdemon part so my bad,but she was killed. The ritual Merrill did just transformed the piece of her that was in the amulet into another body for Flemeth.Which saves her from being truly dead....She even said it herself"Must I only be at one place at a time, bodies are such limiting things"...Not sure if it's her exact words, but it's somewhere along those lines. She also thanks Hawke saying that he/she could have possibly saved her life just as she once saved Hawkes life"An even Trade":)tesaiga wrote...
she didnt die she was transportet to the Free Marches by the Champion. About the explosion it can be only when you kill an Archdemon

I don't think she's an old god or anything, I just think that being a shapeshifter allowed her to co-exist with the demon in another level, so that there was no longer any real distinction between the two.
I am not really sure what Flemeth is but I too dont believe that she is an old god. Morrigan says that she is something different from human. She makes Flemeth seems as if she is something no one could ever imagine.

Also I think she could be the Formless One, one of the original teachers of magic from the fade.

Some thought set in verse:
Thedas fears the Gods of old
only because of what they are told
Control of men to be?
Twisted truth then leak
by tainted priest that speak
Betrayer of the Gods of old
Fen’harel we are told
In tales the Keepers tell
Name long forsaken
Another he has taken?
A body is a simple shell
Let the old one go to hell
Take on a new
In plain sight you then can stand tall
there hide yourself from them all
Is he now a she?
Can that really be?
A move so bold
that gives you freedom again
so you the control can regain

From the record we know that the old gods are big high intelligent dragon much more powerful than high dragon able to speak maybe she is like the child of morrigan with the soul of an old god because she was the one from who morrigan has learn the ritual to trap the soul of an Archdemon in this case the old god Uthamiel(god of beauty) in to the body of a new born child.(my opinion) i would like to know the whole sorry.Maybe in Dragon Age 3 the story will develope more and will make clear some of the flashes till now.
For some reason, I haven't even thought of that explanation. In my head, Flemeth having the soul of an old god just as The Warden's and Morrigan's baby does makes complete sense to me. How else would Flemeth know that ritual anyhow? Someone, way back when, when Flemeth was ready to be concieved there was probably a deal made between two humans, more likely a Grey Warden involved, to slay an Archdemon in one of the former Blights and have the soul of that Old God be transfered into baby Flemeth. That is now my opinion of the matter. But, who am I to make such assumptions? All we can do is wait until 2014 so Bioware can come out with Dragon Age III.. seems so far away.
