Whenever i try to turn my M2DA into a GBA with the excelprocessor nothing
happens. A window opens with like 2 lines of text and it closes itself
after less then a second.

I managed to catch a print screen of it. Anyone know what i might be doing wrong?

What are you typing into the commandline? It should be something like...

excelprocessor C:\\some\\place\\excelsheet.xls -outdir=C:\\excelsheets\\

Single slashes by the way. This stupid forum has a problem with adding an extra backslash whenever you use one.

i don't think it can handle spaces in the file path so "Dragon Age" is a problem

You might also need to put quotation marks around the path and file name if there are any spaces in it.

I just did a bit of tidying of the exporter section of the 2DA page of the wiki, it may have further helpful information.

Edit: beaten to the punch by Georage. :)

I am trying to convert an xls that I built with OpenOffice and it is not working. I want to add some variables to my area. So I made a new xls formatted like var_area but with my custom variables. When I run it I get this but no output file:

ExcelProcessor, Copyright © 2006 Bioware Corp.

Processing: var_area_mw.xls - Target Output Type: PC

Success!

The workaround at the bottom of that page about OpenOffice doesn't make any sense to me. Copy another worksheet, process it, then delete it? Huh?

I had no luck until I copied an existing Bioware XLS, moved it to my folder, renamed things to my liking, then exported.

I got no love creating the file in OpenOffice.

That's what I did too, but I guess I did something different than you. I'll try again.

I tried OO then had to use Excel to get it working (from what I recall).

Want me to send you mine?

Or email me yours and I can save it in Excel and send it back?

Let me know!

OO has been hit and miss in my experience. I haven't been able to figure out a pattern yet myself.

If you're really desperate you can just compile a basic source xls file and then use GDApp to cut n paste in what you need. It's kind of hackish but it works for simple stuff.

Are you using Excel 2007? Because I had the same error until I noticed that Excel 2007 saves speadsheets by default as .xlsx files, not .xls. You have to File-Save As- Excel 97-2003 workbook to get the right file extension on it.

I think i got what is meant by this.
- Take any existing xls from Bioware.
- Open it and add a new tab.
- Edit this Tab to your liking (or just copy&paste what you already have)
- Save and process.
- You'll get one gda for every tab.
- Just leave the original Tab untouched.

at least that worked for me.

Thanks Ceolak. I figured that out finally. I think the wording on the wiki is kind of confusing. I haven't had any trouble since I started just adding my new worksheets into existing 2da files.

The thing I wasn't sure about using the workaround is why some of the tabs seem to be locked in OpenOffice, and you can remove or rename them. I think it was in the items spreadsheet where there were some worksheet tabs like that... the document isn't protected, and I couldn't see any real reasons that seemed to apply in the OOo help or searching their forums.

Even the normal "copy worksheet" option was greyed out.

It shouldn't really make a difference, other than having to delete the extraneous GDAs generated from it, though, as you could still add tabs.

Ok I just had something really strange happen.

I took a source .xls file, made a copy, and opened the copy in OpenOffice. Added a new tab, pasted my data, saved, and ran it through excelprocessor. Now just to be sure it had worked properly, I opened the compiled .GDA with GDApp, and to my surprise two of the cells were slightly off! One cell that was originally "0.8" was now "0.800000011920929" and another that was 1.1 was now "1.10000002384186". The rest of the cells were exactly as they had went in. Also, the source sheet that I piggybacked off of was untouched also.

Anyone want to hazard a guess what's going on here?
