Well let's be honest, we kinda suck at geography outside of our own borders, so it's just easier for us to assume nothing exists beyond them.

Besides, you goofed too!  Australia is only 6-8 hours ahead of North America!  So take a chill pill, step outside, and enjoy those lovely Alps

You might want to look at that timezones board again. Australia is about 15 hours ahead of North America. The difference between Western Australia and Central Europe is already seven hours (depending on Daylight Saving Times). so you either forgot about AM/PM times or counted the hours in wrong direction (cross-pacific instead of cross-asia/cross-atlantic)

While Europeans do like making jokes about Americans being not too strong at Geography, the sad truth is: neither are Europeans. Many people going to Spain for a holiday every year actually couldn't find Spain on the map (answers ranged from Greece to Libya, and Libya has the sea on the NORTH side of its beaches, while Spain has its beaches facing South).

When asked to point out their own capital city, many western european tourists pointed at Moscow! (Don't let Putin hear about that one!)
