I find it very courageous or very foolish of Bioware to actually dare going on with the development of a Dragon Age 3 game, after the shameful and embarrassing failure that was Dragon Age 2.

It would have been expected that the series would have been dead and buried at that point and that we wouldn't need to shame ourselves by remembering about it. When I think "Dragon Age" I don't think of it as a series, I think of it as a great game called "Dragon Age: Origins" released years ago. You know, a standalone success.

I mean, this is almost as embarrassing as James Cameron coming back to direct  "Avatar 2", you know, everyone knows it's bad and everyone repudiates it, no matter how many members of the development crew do their best to post false review scores out there...

Pretty please ? Facepalms and all ?

It's either that or something completely unknown. Unless they want to buy an IP.

Dragon Age 2 was only bad in comparison to DA:O - the drop in quality was quite significant, the game was severely rushed, and it showed. As a game, I thought it was good though - not great, nowhere near DA:O, but a solid game nonetheless. DA:O had set the bar so high, that just a "good" game seemed like a disappointment in comparison.

The recycling of environments was it's main flaw, and the storyline that didn't have a clear goal from the start was a bit dubious - much of the game you seemed to have no clear aim beyond self-advancement, and the sort of "epic" feel that many RPG players seek was missing.

With a few mods (like the one that allows you to change the armor of your companions), the game is improved somewhat.

I don't think anything is wrong with the Dragon Age universe though - the setting is quite excellent, and not ruined by one game set in it. I see no reason for them to abandon the IP. Though the rushed nature of DA2, and the severe disappointment with ME3's ending, and a feeling of betrayal that it left the fanbase with, may impact the sales of DA3; I suspect that after ME3, DA3 will see fewer pre-orders, as customers want to wait and see what the fan reaction is.

I enjoyed DA2 its DLC and all of Origins. I enjoy the DA world as a whole.

I would assume that with any game that Bioware is planning to make, they think they have a good idea and they think they can execute it to both their and the eventual customers' satisfaction. Whether it's 'Dragon Age 3' or 'Grand Unicorn Frolic', to get the money to design games, the developers have to convince the higher ups of both factors.

Admittedly 'Grand Unicorn Frolic' would be the easier sell, especially if the concept art abandons DA's muddy tones and goes for pastels, but if they have sold DA3 internally, then they have a good basis for going forward.

Why don't we all wait and see if they can execute the new game?

DA3 is just a name they are going to use to make a fantasy MP game that they can milk for DLC's and weekend specials. I do not believe for a second that BioWarEA really cares at all about a story driven single player DA3 game. They will throw together what they have to, so they can slap the MP game on it.

Strange how so MANY gamers who hated DA2, and who seemingly want nothing more than for Bioware to simply throw in the towel and abandon the franchise (I suppose in the hope that this would be an acknowledgment that they were right?), keep posting and posting comment after comment about their disdain - rather than you know - just go away.

I'm going to hang in there and hope that despite the unfortunate delays, Dragon Age 3 will eventually hit the stores and transport me back to Thedas for more grand adventures.

Agreed. This is very likely the probable outcome. It's already rumored you can be a dwagon in multiplayer.

Unfortunate delays? Shouldn't you be hoping for a long development cycle?

Can't wait for more Dragon Age! I actually prefered DA2, but they are both fantastic games.

DA2 was terrible. BioWare stole my money on that game.

But I have no problems with them trying again with DA3. I certainly won't preorder it, but if fans like it I'd be willing to give it a look...

Flawed and subpar with regards to Bioware standards. Still prefer it over technologically -and only technologically- superior games like the witcher 2 and skyrim.

Indeed. DA2's main flaw was in trying to be completely different from DAO, and tried to do too many new things at once. Some worked, but more didn't. It was an experiment gone wrong. Still enjoyable in its own fashion, but a weaker Bioware entry for all the needless experimentation.

If they can take the winning recipe of DAO, and incorporate the working elements of DA2, we could have a winning combination.

An existing IP is still much more reliable than trying a new IP unless its name has become tainted through a very horrible game. If Dragon Age 3 does well, it can still salvage the series.

DA2 was an interesting but flawed game imo. I am cautiously interested to see what DA3 will be.

Witcher/Deus Ex moved the goal posts when it comes to cinematic games. DA2 looks even worse now in light of that.
Unless you are absolutely fixated on having your own character.Well, your own in so far as a first name that is never used and appearence that nobody comments on.

EA are doing a Lucas. Use the game to sell merchandise.

They also seem to have figured out that a well advertised turd will sell in the short term...
