I have been browsing through the "DA Playable Modules" category of the social site to see what sorts of modules the community is working on. However, I've come across quite a few things in that category that appear to be mis-categorised, such as gameplay changes and new items.

Now this may seem like a small point, but I'd like to put out a plea for content creators to take care when choosing the category for their project. Having things categorised correctly (or as near as possible) will aid both players looking for content and content creators hoping to get their content noticed.

There aren't a massive amount of projects in the wrong categories, though there are enough for it to be noticable, but imagine what it may be like in a year from now, or two years. Since there seems to be no central moderation of projects on the site, it's up to us to try to keep things in the right place.

I think the terms "addon", "module", and "mod" can lead to confusion since they have similar meanings, so here's a summary of what (as I understand it) the categories are aimed at:

Dragon Age Addons

Addons add items, NPCs, areas, etc. to existing games. These can be anything ranging from a simple item (The Edge) to additional playable areas (Warden's Keep). The key thing here is that they "plug in" additional content into a game you may already be playing.

Standalone modules and gameplay (etc.) mods should not be in this category.

DA Playable Modules

These are standalone modules which can be played as a new adventure from beginning to end, regardless of the original campaign.

Addons and gameplay/item (etc.) mods should not be in this category.

Arguably, there is some crossover between Addons and DA Playable
Modules since an addon may be designed as an additional
"chapter" to an existing playable module.

DA Gameplay Mods, DA Item/Armor/Weapon Mods, DA Character Mods

These categories are for anything which modifies a particular aspect of the game, such as texture replacements, game rules changes, model changes, etc.

Anything starting with "Builder -"

These are for resources used in or with the toolset to aid in the creation of content.

If I remember correctly (at God knows I have an especially unreliable memory) the categories were renamed a bit after I created a project page myself, so before that at least 500ish projects were created with old category names... and we can't change the project category after the initial creation. That's why many projects (including mine) remain in the wrong category. :-/

I have an old project (number 41) and it should clearly be in the "utilities" category. However, when the project was started, the "utilities" category didn't exist .... so the project ended up in the "addon" category. I would like to move it, but that's just not possible.

The same applies to various other projects - they should be in categories that just didn't exist when they were created.

The lack of ability to re-categorize projects is one of the frustrating things about the "Projects" section . The inability to distinguish between "ready for release" and "work in process" projects is even more irritating, however, and I really, really would like to see a better rating system.

Well, I bet devs know about this... or at least I HOPE they do. I'm one of those unfortunate people who have their projects in the wrong category as well... u_u
