Will this be on consoles by any chance?

A sci-fi game where choices actually matter...

We'll know for sure tomorrow.

Cyberpunk style? Booo. Oh well might keep an eye for it if a 360 release is likely.

Even though I'm not a fan of The Witcher, I really like how CDPR handles its DLC and customers. I hope the developers don't force us to play as a set character like Geralt. I like that guys' gun; it looks like the one off Blade Runner!

Way better than sword, shields and magic.

I hope the main character is more of a blank slate customizable character.   You know character class, backgrounds and such.   Just to give it a more personal feel rather than a predefined character with limited expression.

I won't be interested if I have to play that guy in the image.

Whether this game is worth keeping an eye on or not depends entirely on the details. Will the gameplay be Deus Ex-like? Is there any real character customization? What is the setting's history? I like cyberpunk, but I can't say I've ever loved it the way I do steampunk and urban fantasy.

I'm also getting tired of the whole dark and gritty angle, and cyberpunk has a tendency to fall into dystopian futureville.

Cyber punk, is anyone else getting a Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Blade Runner) type vibe from this?

That's because it's the definition of the genre.

I didn't want to write cyberpunk *always* does on the off chance there's a story that takes it into a different, more hopeful direction out there. I'm not really a fan of the genre, so I don't know what's out there. Haven't even seen Blade Runner. Don't feel particularly compelled to either. :P Most of my exposure to it comes from Shadowrun games, and that's closer to a fusion of genres.

Also, magic > everything except advanced science and possibly firearms. :P

You can beat a witch to death with a baseball bat. :D

In order for it to be Cyberpunk, the political and social atmosphere has to be bleak. There are other types of "punk" that venture into different areas of science, but the concept of "Punk" as a main genre is that the social and political climate has to represent some kind of struggle for the protagonist and/or the people that inhabit that world.

The graphics don't have to be bleak, tho'. An awful lot of dystopias are shiny. If there is significant character customization and the graphics are pretty, I might give it a look see. Of course, it really depends upon how good the character development and plot are.

Dark and gritty can be fun. It doesn't necessarily have to be one long descent into utter depression.

If I take a guess they'll release it on PC first then on consoles later like they did with Witcher, it's actually a smart move to do that to. But they do seem to be going cross-platform now as they announced Witcher 1 is going on PS3/360 as well.

As for the new game it sounds and looks very good, looking forward to seeing more.

I am,very much so.  Speaking of Philip K. Dick,I would not mind if they tried to tackle the multiverse / alternative reality angle - something like "The Man in the High Castle" or the 2001 movie "Avalon" from Mamoru Oshii.

CDPR are good at creating believable worlds - I hope they manage to pull cyberpunk / general atmosphere off the way
Ion Storm / Looking Glass Studios could.

Would be nice if the protagonist would be more of a blank slate fit for greater roleplaying opportunities. And, particularly, customization options and the option to be a *woman*. But I'd be holding my breath considering the company.

True, but out of all the various scifi styles Cyberpunk is the one I like the least. About like steampunk in that reguard. Its not that I don't like more dark settings, so much as the aesthetic style found in those sorts, such as Mohawk man on the image here, or Tophats and brass thick glasses like you see in steampunk.

I would prefer that too. Or, at least I'd like the option to avoid certain hairstyles.

I am pretty excited about the news though. It has potential, and I'm happy just to see more non-fantasy RPGs. Don't get me wrong, I like fantasy RPGs, but they are overrepresented.

Most of all I'd love to see a serious Call of Cthulhu CRPG. Dark Corners of the Earth captured the atmosphere, but it wasn't a roleplaying game and the gameplay itself had a few issues. If you make such a game though, it has to be utterly merciless, and you can't have players running around being super heroes like in other RPGs.
