Most excellent! I cannot wait to see how this turns out. Now all they have to do is get Daft Punk to do the soundtrack and it'll be even better.

As much as I love Daft Punk, it's not the right sound for a Cyberpunk game

VnV Nation,
Android Lust,
or Front 242
are classic Industrial and EBM. They came from the same scene as Cyberpunk, so it meshes seamlessly.

@Addai67 The problem with that is that magic and mysticism has been done to death in games. You can close your eyes in any game stop, throw a dart and you're likely to hit one of three games, a medieval fantasy, a 3rd person action shooter or a military first person shooter. CDPR is trying something very different, as expected.

Why should a "modern" or near future or future/sci-fi game be a "shooter"?  I'm not talking shooter.

Speculation time, I'll go first.

You'll be playing as the techer, an individual who shows signs of extreme knowledge of technology and data manipulation and are trained to be a prodigy. Now you quest across the land working for various CEO's of large corporations keeping peace between them and getting laid by all your female companions.

Than in game 2 you'll get set up by a rouge techer for an assassination and will need to clear your name after a computer virus wipes out your memory banks.

This is the best possible news for me. Been praying for cyberpunk from CDPR for well over a year now. The fact that it's Witcher veterans working on it pretty much erases any doubts I had.

wonder if there gonna let you customize your character or go with a uncustomizable protagonist ...

Customization has been confirmed at least to some extent:

"Players will experience the world through their own, unique characters chosen from different classes – be they blood-thirsty mercenaries or cunning hackers – that they will equip with vast selection of cybernetic implants and deadly weapons. "

"In the Cyberpunk universe, players will once again be allowed to customize their characters as they navigate a world of mercs and hackers."

As opposed to?  A sword?  Big diff, swinging a sword all the time to kill people or firing a gun to kill people.  The gun is cleaner and faster.  Shooting an arrow is...shooting, thus making it a "shooter".  Proing proing instead of pew pew.

A sword/bow-and-arrow game is a shooter but by different weapon.  The effect and gameplay is the same.

Here's another idea instead of damn medievil nonsense.  How about putting the story in ancient Rome or, even better, classical/ancient Greece.  Go with Gene Wolff again but this time a world like "Solier of the Mist" and "Soldie of Arete".  No wizards, no mages, no dwarves, no elves, no monster hoard armies, no dragons, no plate armor, no castles, no Highness or m'lord.

This news makes me even more excited for Dishonored. Although Dishonored is a new IP set in a dystopian fictional city where half the population is dead to a plague, whaling is the primary economic driver, and a supernatural being called the Outsider walks among the citizens.

The fact this game isn't for everybody is a good thing. Like somebody mentioned before, too many people and things can start to get murky. Just looked how Mass Effect became yet another third person shooter.

Romances...don't matter as long as it isn't lame or get in the way. I'd much rather have lustful encounters...fits more with the setting imo.

I had an idea.  Not that it matters
because we are not a game company but...  Thinking about the thread and
discussion of the genres (the clearly inferior and overdone fantasy
genre with swords and sorcery [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]
and the call here for more futuristic/scifi RPG) and realized that
there is away to combine both.  Anyone here read the Gene Wolff "Urth of
the New Sun" series? ("Shadow of the Torturer", etc)  It is an
interesting amalgam of scifi/fantasy (without magic and wizards, per se -
as Asimov said about "a sufficiently advanced science will be
indistinguishable from magic").  Its setting is a VASTLY distant earth
future (Urth), like a million years hence.  The place is practically
unrecognizable. There is Severian, the protagonist who is a member of
the Torturers Guild and among his tools is a long sword (high techy
version - though no lasers or such nonsense).  There are all kinds of
odd science and creatures (a million years of evolution and, apparently,
some mixing in of alien lifeforms).

Basically THAT would be an interesting world and premise upon which to build an action/RPG.

You
have Fading Suns RPG, its so Urth of the New Sun that it almost feels
like it was based on it. I love that setting and system.

It's sort of off topic but this is probably why I like Dune so much, not being otherwise too big on sci fi.  Because of the Butlerian Jihad, the world of Dune is in some ways like the ancient Near East with nomadic Arabs, Greeks and Persians, and there are magic/ mystical aspects as well.  It's just an interesting juxtaposition.

But, whatever.  I'm sure this will be a good game even if the teaser doesn't push my buttons.  It's CDPR and I won't sneeze at their sort of mature, high quality WRPG no matter what the setting.

As mentioned above, Fading Suns. You have Dune there too. Its a mixed bowl of spices, even elements of Star Wars to some extent.

Fading Suns rpg - highest possible recommendation from me (heh, as if I was such  an authority on the subject :P but I digress).

I hear youre keen of fantasy settings - did you hear about Earthdawn? Marvelous setting. I wish CDPR did that in near future too... but right now I'm drunk on Cyberpunk info-noise.

Yes! ! !
:)

Though I disagree on calling most medieval games shooters, and also I'd refrain from calling one done in the vein of KOTOR (with guns).

From the leaked pics, I was hoping that it was a cyberpunk genre/sub-genre game (a Shadowrun one, in particular, was my hope).
An actual 'Cyberpunk' game, tho'...still awesome (I never had the chance to play that system/setting when I still regularly played pen-and-paper, but I was familiar w/ it somehow via the Netrunner card game).
Having the pen-and-paper game's creator on hand during the conference was also a very nice touch.

As a fan of CDPR's The Witcher series, and particularly how they handled it (free DLC, DRM-free, now free digital backup for BOTH games via gog.com, and the Enhanced Editions), I'm really, really excited to see how they'll handle this new IP. :o

Interesting concept art... It feels out of the ordinary, and thus "fresh". (Y)

(though not particularly "beautiful" nor "pleasing" - which is not so important even)

This, and also because RPGs in modern times suck. Just look at Borderlands or Fallout3 with their awful gameplay.

VnV Nation doing the soundtrack would undoubtedly improve the game.

Well if you approached Borderlands as an rpg I can see why you'd be disappointed. Its a shooter, and a good, even great shooter.

Pretty cool news. Will keep an eye out. I'm hoping the PnP influence will open up the gameplay options and encourage a bit of lateral thinking or emergent gameplay.
