They might do first and third person. I tend to get more immersed in a world with first person, but can in third person, too. Red Dead Redemption comes to mind. I hope the story is original.

Giggidy.  But really though, I can understand.  A pre-defined character isn't for everyone especially when you don't like said character.  It does seem for this one that they're going for a more customizable route though from what I understand, it won' be out for a while anyway.

What would you say if they were to made one predefined character for every role to pick from?

A female netrunner, strongly detached from reality, constantly on stym, fearing crowds and open spaces.
Male cop, gets his hands dirty when needs be, blackmailed and forced to do bad things by some corp-man.
A rocker-boy, high on his messianic philosophy, great charisma and unbreakable spirit but weak flesh that fails him.
Burned out solo, highly skilled and efficient, which began to question his motives, assignments and morality of his bossess. On a breaking point, ending each day with an injector and a barrel to his temple.
Female ripperdoc, replacing gradually her body with cyberparts; human body holds no secrets before her, but human soul is lost to her as she downward spirals into cyberpsychosis with each and every new upgrade.

Or do we want blank slate character?

I don't mind if the characters are set like you said but i can play both so it's not important for me. I like all your examples.

Ontopic: I am currently playing "that douche bag" in The Witcher 2 and am now officially part of the CDPR fanbase. The concept of Cyperpunk sounds interesting, so I'll keep an eye on this one too.

I'd like this approach though I know the 'lack' of customization would ****** some people off. Each class with its own origin would be great. And those are cool examples. Just can't get into the idea of Rocker Boy without nightmarish notions of big hair, sappy music and makeup..

All I hope for is that this game is also on PlayStation 3. I don't want the game to end up being for just Mac OS X, Windows, and possibly the Xbox 360 like The Witcher and its sequel.

Their source is Cyberpunk 2020 rpg game, so that's why. Its a 'continuation" of the IP.

You should do a quick google. Hangman said already its based of the Cyberpunk 2020 series. Cyberpunk 2077 takes place 57 years later.
