It's been such a while for a game to trigger such pure joy.

I think they are missing the mark and really do not have a clue what the requirements of the genre are.

If done well this could be a good game, my only fear as of now is that that story sounds, what's the word, generic.
And I don't mean generic as in "oh that's just tropes and archetypes, you can't avoid those", I mean, "This is a prime example of the average 90's sci-fi comic story" type generic.
I really hope they handle it well and that their different classes and innevitably different storylines from various factions points of view offer a complex look at the world, mainly showing that no side is right or wrong, but doing what it feels is for the best. So that rebels aren;t automatically good, and coorporations aren't stupid evil, and every side has reedeming and detracting qualities that makes it hard to choose whose really the ones you want to stand with.
Making there be incentives to joining the various sides outside of material gain would be good to, so it's not just picking between hitler, stalin, and po pot when it comes to the factions. Because a rpg is bound to have them.
But I prattled on enough, this games cinematic trailer reminds me of dreed, and that is a very good thing.
I didn't know CDPR's story for the game had already been leaked.
And you should really play the Witcher games. When you do, you'll realize that CDPR doesn't do binary morality.
Distopian futrure where private corporations rule. Martial law established everywhere. Human cypernetics being widespread. Space Naz.i-eaque police uniforms. It's looking like the 90's all over again to me, which could be really good, or really, really, bad.
That's the setting, not the story. They have source material that they cannot contradict, so the game will inevitably have the "90's Sci-fi" vibe as that's when the PnP game came out.

So this is based on someone elses pre-established works. That explains a lot.
Will be interesting to see what they can do with those limitations, and whether it can do it well and bring it into a new era or not.
Still, waiting to see who they get programing the combat and gameplay mechanics. Hopefully it will be someone with shooter game experience, and not a greenhorn whose only ever worked with fantasy works.
I belive they will put in the effort, but I belive a lot of things that have turned out to be untrue before.

They have devs on board with experience in designing a shooter. I understand your concern but trust me the last thing they'll do is make a half hearted effort. Look up CP 2020 to get a feel for the overall tone of the PnP game, and then look at the trailer.. already they've shown a progressive aesthetic.

Also from neogaf
CD Projekt CEO was interviewed by TVN CNBC and had few interesting things to say:
- Trailer represents the level of in-game graphics that they're aiming for.
- Cyberpunk 2077 will have a much bigger marketing budget than any of their previous games, and they're confident it will be a commercial success comparable to the "big games". The most important market for C2077 will be NA.
- They are about to start talks with publishers about their second title (which will be announced on 5 February).

"Bigger marketing budget than any"
"Bigger marketing budget"
"Bigger marketing"
"Marketing"
Pre-release statements and broken promises, here I come.
I am highly doubtful that the graphics level in game will match the graphics level of their cinematic trailer. Even more so that I will ever be able to see such a thing on console, even with the new ones coming up soon.
So, either it will make too many promises that it can't keep, or it will become the new half-life 3.
I await to see which it will be.

You really aren't familiar with CDPR are you? If they say something, they will try their darndest to do it. And if they can't, you'll read in a dev blog or an interview that they couldn't. They drop the ball rarely when it comes to marketing vs actual product.
I'm not deifying them, its just facts. And if the community has a problem with a path that they are taking, they listen and adjust accordingly (They were going to sexify Geralt up for TW2 to appeal to mainstream. The community wanted him ugly, so they did it.)
So don't worry too much. This isn't bioware (no offense to them). They don't ****foot around. You'll see during Cyberpunk's development

I await being impressed, or unimpressed. We shall see with time.
Witcher 2 failed to impress me and is the only game I have ever returned for a refund. This is the level of quality in their product I have experienced, and I did not enjoy it.
I am willing to give them a chance, but whenever a team mentions their marketing, it never ends well. It's like saying "It couldn't get any worse", or "that wasn't so bad", it invites bad things to happen.
