It still boggles me how CDPR, a rather small company, can afford to do things 3/4 of AAA titles don't even bother doing! .

It still boggles me how people think CDPR is s small company.

Define small.  As I said elsewhere, Witcher 2 was written by 3 people with a 4th doing some additional dialogue.  Then those same people turned around and did the cinematic design.  I call that a small company, as it pertains to the games.

Somebody should just sticky these CDPR haters/ defenders fights somewhere so we can all just point to the sign on the wall.

Small as in not having the backing of a huge publisher who in turn has a steady income through a popular digital download service. CDPR might not have the biggest team, but they certainly have the funding to take their time and more than a few risks. They don't really have to worry that a bad game will sink them into bankruptcy.

Weren't they driven to the verge of bankruptcy during the development of Witcher 1: White Wolf for consoles? Couldn't handle developing two games at once, bleeding money, so they cancelled the project, and most of the team was shifted to W2.

Think some developers even went off to create a new studio to help CDPR's financial situation. The Hard Reset devs.

Not sure if that's what happened, but I do know that White Wolf caused a lot of issues for CDPR.

They didn't create a new studio for CDPR, they left CDPR for good. Flying Wild Hog is an independent studio. As for financial trouble, the reason they released a Witcher 2 alpha vid years ago was to attract inventors, because they were in need of financial backing to finish Witcher 2.

That was before GoG though.

GoG is just that GoG. It's not steam and the video library is limited, so we're not exactly talking about a huge sourceof steady income here. They have had issues with trying to get publishers to let their titles be released on GoG due to their no DRM policy, so what large publisher backing are you talking about?

We know they used Capcom last time I believe, but then ended up in legal difficulties for removing the DRM had their issue with trying to use THQ, although that is now moot. So what publisher backing has let them do whatever? It's not been plain sailing from what I've seen.

And while they aren't small, they are still privately owned and their backing or finance came initially from the publishing and translation of games in eastern EU, as well as their distribution of those products and other software. Not games. That was before CDPR, when the parent company was still CDP, CDPR is the dev. studio specifically for games.

CDP is the publisher backing that they have. Sure, CDP isn't on the level of say EA or Nintendo, but they are the biggest distributor of PC games in central Europe. And GoG may not be on the level of Valve, but it is still a source of steady income that many companies don't have access to. They certainly have better opportunities to funding than Obsidian, who is reliant on contracts with various outside publishers (Or Kickstarter) to create any of their games.

Unfortunately saying it's the largest publisher, or distributor, in central Europe is like saying one is the thinnest kid at fat camp.

Or they wouldn't have used Namco and tried THQ for the publishing of TW2, and they are the largest distributors of games software in Poland it's true, but they still don't publish the games, they simply distribute them on behalf of Blizzard, Activision, Sega etc.

On a larger more secure footing than Obsidian, certainly as Obsidian is a dev. studio. CDPR has it's parent company CDP. A large company to compete with the likes of EA, Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, Ubisoft, yeah no.

So I've yet to get an explanation as to how CDPR can provide a game like TW2, while using an outside publisher, but Activision and it's ilk feel an overwhelming desire to nickle and dime their audience at every opportunity despite their size.

In comparison to others in the industry, I would say that yes, they are small.

One values games and developing games, the other doesn't.

You answered your own question. CDPG because of Polish wages being way lower than American ones has small overhead.
Obsidian CEO has said that Obsidian as a studio burns around one million per month, and Obsidian is small.
Activision i have read that spend 700 M $ per month to operate. EA won't be much lower than Activision. They operate at an entirelly diffirent scale than CDP.

May 17th was the release date of The Witcher 2 for PC. I really doubt the release date is set in stone at this point, but it's probably just CDPR ETA for Cyberpunk 2077. Or Steam's. Or it's just fake.

I hope there are some Lawful, Good and Evil factions. A world with only Chaotic-Evil groups really sucks.

I like that guys' gun; it looks like the one off Blade Runner!

COP 357, you mean?

That's a real gun that they tinkered with a little to make it fire all four barrels. Not, I will add, a successful model.
