Are they serious? If you're that close to what you're trying to kill and you're not a Batarian/Krogan/Vorcha, you're dead.

Smash is an awesome power but it is in dire need of a drastic increase in base range.

I imagine they may have been thinking you lash then smash but honestly, lash doesn't work on 95% of the enemies you face.

Additional note: I made this thread concerning the Adept not the Vanguard. Discussion of the Vanguard is fine, just know that my feelings towards a range increase are directed towards the adpet.

I feel the adept needs a range increase of a base of 5m and 7.5m with the 50% increase (same as flamer). Still close range but far less situational.

For the Vanguard it needs seperate cooldown from BC and/or invulnerability while using it.

The worst thing is it's warm up animation. If you actually get someone near enough to use that power, they'll probably shoot you to death before you can use it. You might just kill the offender post-mortem, but that's really that great an incentive, now is it?

Increased range would give you that extra second for the animation.

It has a Shockwave-like projectile extend from the front too. That part is definitely beyond 1.50m

Nah, I'm quite sure, that "Shockwave-like projectile" stops at 1.5.

Oh, for sure. I've beasted some phantoms with it. It's definitely a crazy risk though, which is one reason among many, why it needs increased range. And not just some BS increase, a drastic increase.

it isn't that bad, it's very up close but it can go thru walls and cover like shockwave and more powerful

All that is well and good but it's an up close move on a character that has no business being up close.

All that is well and good but it's an up close move on a character that has no business being up close.


It's useful on close quarter maps, and especially on the vanguard since you probably will be up close most of the time.
With Biotic Charge to refill your barriers, I didn't really find it difficult to use but I probably wouldn't put that many points into it if I had the adept since that class isn't as geared towards CQC like a Vanguard

I'd really prefer a small shield buff or damage reduction/immunity during a few frames of smash. You know, like nova.

It's not meant to be used against small stuff.

It's for banshees/atli/phantoms/brutes.

It does massive damage when specced for it so there needs to be a trade off. Or else it would be OP as heck since each one does like 4 bars of damage to banshees on goldwithout a biotic explosion.

so its a close range ability that's meant to be used on stuff that instakills me when I'm in close range?

I actually found it easier to use against weaker enemies :P the main problem being that Smash doesn't do a whole lot of damage against armor but I mostly use it to attack behind cover or walls and set up/detonate BE on clustered enemies ^_^

lol this is exactly why i dont use it on powerful enemies that can insta-kill you (except for maybe Phantoms occassionaly), the risk just isn't worth it and the damage vs armor isn't all that great

The only thing that would save it for me is invincibility frames while you're winding up.

Otherwise the reward doesn't even come close to justifying the risk.

Me too, just needs more range. As others have said, that may not be so for the vanguard but for the adept it is absolutely necessary.

@stance punk: (I assume you mean sig?) Not exactly sure.If your making one, try making it 600x50. That works well, the only way to get a bigger one is with some sort of multiple image stacked deal. Not really sure how that works.

I wouldn't have such a problem with it's range if it were just faster. Most of the time you'll end up getting killed by things you're trying to hit with it because it takes ages to use, and even if you try to crush a Lash victim with it, assuming they actually come near you after you hit them with that, half the time they'll skid by you and you'll miss because it's so slow.
It's good at wailing on Brutes and Banshees, or shieldless Atli, but that's about it. Everything else will kill you while you fire it.

You can spec Lash to affect enemies with shield/barriers am health, making it only useless against armoured enemies which is definitely less than 95%...

As for Smash I've found it to be a boss killer; sure you have to get close but it's range isn't that bad. Saying that though I haven't gotten to fighting Reapers yet...
