Forced Grouping

I just left RedCliffe for the final time, on my way to Denerim and I have the conversation with Morrigan about some ritual. Well I'm playing pretty straight and narrow and my guy is the valiant type who would willingly die to save the lands. So of course I turn her down, and she runs off.
Her CC abilities are the backbone of my group and now I am stuck without her going into the final run. Add to that getting stuck with Alistair who I have not played all game and is so horribly equiped it's a little disgusting. Of course I didnt know I was going to be stuck with him until after I had left the castle and had no way to better equip him.
Stuff like this does not make a 'role playing' game in my mind.
I still really enjoy the game, but right now this has me pretty frustrated.

Then I had to get through the end of the game without her as well. Zevran and Oghren died off quick during the archdemon fight and it was down to me and loghain fighting the arch demon by ourselves with nothing but health pots.
The game really needed at least 1 more mage companion and one that wasn't "Pure Good" and "Pure Evil" both always hate it when you don't do what they want.
I still managed to beat it but the lack of mage companions (And the lack of their personalities, they're both pretty 1 deminsional) was an unpleasent surprise I had to plan ahead for.

I actually really dislike the "here's 50 companions, but you'll only use three of them" mentality that pervades the rest of the game, and most BioWare titles. In particular it's annoying because you miss content that only activates if you have a specific group member in your party. I wish there had been more segments like the finale that allow you to use the others instead of having them sit around in your camp all game.

My 1st through was a rogue who didn't have coup de grace or lethality , had random archery talents but not arrow of slaying , finished the game at lvl 19 , had mages w/o mana clash or crushing prison , and the whole party including my own character was poorly equipped

Ditto, first time through I tried to allow each person to join me during different plot lines and was saddly disappointed when at the end, even though I got to use everyone, the fights were so insanely easy I could've afk'd through them.

This is, in fact, one of the reasons I only botehr recruiting people I intend to use.
I'm not sure it's the smartest thing to do, as there are indeed times when your be forced to use certain characters, but oh well.

And I´d do the same with DA:O if I could. I wish I could play with more than just pc + 3 companions, since I could really use cool tactics like propperly holding a line, getting artillery support or propper flanking and that just cannot be propperly made with only 4 guys.
A larger group also forces you to really take the consequences of your actions in terms of influence with your companions. Typical thing is "I know this guy dissproves on this particular thing I´m going to do. No prob, I´ll just change him/her and once the dialogue is taken, I get him/her back". That should be reduced, and if you want to keep influence at its maximum with everyone, you´ll have to be a genius with diplomacy: make it possible but hard to do.
Besides, taking out all the "tacticool" part (airsoft jargon, sorry guys); I´d love to see more complex character interactions. All the conversations in game are basicaly shaped as a vis a vis thing with short interruptions of other characters sometimes. I´d love to see genuine conversations of various companions with me or even better, just among them about my pc, themselves, quests, weeather...
And last but not least; the best part of this game for me is the interaction with the companions. I´d like to see the posibility of "hardening" in Leliana or Alistair expanded and generalized. I´d like to have the capacity not just to change my companion´s perceptions towards my pc changed, but their respective perceptions towards each other. Examples? Just as Sten eventually comes to respect my pc, it would be cool to eventually seing him respecting others in the party. Another one: Morrigan and Alistair basicaly hate each other with passion; maybe that could change. And of course, Shale and Sten respect each other a lot; why that should stay the same forever?
