There's a link located in the same section as the removal of files which points to a post by Brian from Bioware who explains how the toolset can corrupt the saves and how to resolve it. I suggest that because, according to the guys who created the 1.01v Toolset, they had to renumber a variety of the components to sync them up with the 1.02 patch and prevent the breakages that have been occurring from re-occuring. That suggests to me that the corruption with the saved games is being triggered by the changes related to 1.02.
Yes, I tried what Brian said too. I'm pretty sure I tried every suggestion on the forum. Uninstalling and re-installing the game without the patch was my next-to-last resort, I was just glad I didn't have to muck about with my registry. Possibly there was some weird combination of the 1.01 toolset and patch 1.02 that borked my game. I did use the toolset to open a save and give the dog a name when I could not in game, but that was not the same game, or even same character, that first got stuck in Lothering. However, if my saves had been corrupted, wouldn't they have remained corrupted without the 1.02 patch?
Anyway, I do hope that uninstalling and reinstalling works for others who have also tried ALL the other suggestions and are still stuck in Lothering. I felt like I was in an episode of Star Trek

Hmm. I had that mod too. Disabling it didn't help -- but oh, I bet disabling a mod isn't enough to actually fully remove it. Anyone have a link on how to completely remove a mod? *sigh* I was silly to think just disabling a mod would actually fully disable it I guess.
Found the folder in the AddIns folder, removed it...Still stuck in Lothering. I'm wondering if it may just be a coincidence that I noticed this after installing that mod.

i had tried everything... no workarounds really gave anything .....
So i backed up my character-folder and reinstalled DAO, put the character-folder back, then started without any weird mods just my dlc´s, i started my saves with a force-load without the "old" mods and IT WORKED !!!
I did not add any patches though....just the regular 1.0..right outta the box.
Everything is as it should be now, not stuck in lothering anymore...weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
PS! Cover your eyes! The mod-stuff disappears, so the first thing i saw when my save loaded was my diaper-wearing dwarf, not pretty !!!

Didn't need to do anything else. (And I use an insane amount of addins and override mods.)
Hope others are as lucky.

1) Delete the offending add-in folders from the BioWare/Dragon Age/AddIns folder that's probably in your Documents folder
2) In the BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings folder I removed references to the add-ins in the AddIns.xml
Re-loaded saved game and exited Lothering.
(I also edited the <PC name>.xml and <PC name_Story>.xml files to remove all references to the offending items but I don't think this makes a difference as the Force Load feature probably deals with this inconsistency.
Hope this works for others. Feel free to drop me a line if not and I'll try to remember what other tinkering I did.

Here's the thing. I have the same problem with not being able to leave Lothering. But i havent installed any mods or any patches, it's the original game. I've read everything you have written, but all is based on a mod screwing up! But as i said, i have the original game? So what could be my problem?
Hi, have u manage to solve your problem? Me facing the same issue too. 1st time at camp and exist to the world map. After random enounter along the journey, was unable to exit from the area of fight back to the world map.

This is how I fixed it. SAVE THE GAME FIRST!
Enable the console, then type in (runscript appearance 24) without the brackets.
After you do that, type in (runscript appearance -1) to undo the appearance change.
You'll be able to travel as soon as you change your appearance, but go back to your original appearance before you travel.
