Hi guys,

I will post news about this topic here:

OMG, what does it need discussing? Rollback and then start discussion if you want to implement a working alternative, but this needs to be rolled back yesterday as you made your announcement, I fear you discuss this too long and lose another bunch of players :'-(

So its come to my attention, after a few hours of testing, that Bioware may have introduced a method of matchmaking in their patch, that is, that somehow public games only match you with people who are around your own N7 rating.
Out of 10 different lobbies created (or joined) all members were N7 1080-1150 100% of the time (My own N7 rating being 1138).

If this hyphothesis rings true, it has increased the waiting times for creating lobbies exponentially; particularly for high ranking N7 players.

Now before the posts start flowing in about "herp derp! You should be happy! You're getting grouped up with only high skilled players!" No. A thousand times no. Besides the already proven point that N7 doesn't equal skill, this is a terrible idea.
Why? Fairly simple: The number of N7+1000 players is LOW (Or perhaps rephrased, N7 players past 1000 who are within 100 or so ranks to you). This makes creating - and joining - lobbies a living nightmare. There's simply not enough players to be around. Tested on both gold and silver lobbies, it takes well over 20 minutes to get 4 players for a game, and many of those players simply get bored halfway and leave, increasing waiting times.

I'm aware "invite your friends" is a solution, but its not always such, they could be offline, or you could just want a quick match. Random PuG is fairly impossible right now for high ranking N7s for example that want to take a chill in silver. Before this patch a room would fill in very quickly around 5 minutes; sure, N7 ranks varied from 50s to 600s or so, but it made the game playable, and it made it fast. Since the patch, and if this matchmaking theory is true, its nigh impossible to start a playable lobby due to the lack of high N7 players.

If such a system is in place, or is in testing or an unintentional side-effect, make it a toggle option wether you want matchmaking or not.

If anyone else can confirm this theory through own public lobby experiences let me know. I'd like to confirm this isn't some sort of weird, incredible bad luck coincidence regarding this new matchmaking.

I fully second that. If you are trying to get only ONE Random when your host has a N7 rank of 1500 or higher, the waiting time is completely impossible. We started playing with only three players out of desperation over the endless waiting time and through the whole game nobody joined! That's over 30 minutes with not a single random joining our game!

I appreciate the idea of matching people with similar N7 ranking. But there should either be a toggle for the host to switch it off or it should loosen up by itself after 2 or 3 minutes without a successful match.

Imagine you are an N7 rank of 3000 or higher (I am playing with quite a few of that rank). Hosting a game with the intention to have only one random player join is absolutely futile. And even with a friend list of 15 people distributed all over the world you sometimes don't have enough players (only 2 others are online or one group is already full etc.) so you want to invite a random. Fast. Not with a waiting time of 30 minutes to have a closer N7 rank match.

The new matchmaking system might be fine for Ranks 1 to 500 but please, Bioware, don't punish your fans for having achieved a high N7 rank!!!

Actually, it shows that they pay attention and are trying to do something to make the experience better.  There have always been people complaining about getting matched with low N7 players here, and some few people even support the matchmaker.  Looking at the forums, it would have seemed a good idea, the only problem is that most people against it spoke up only after it was implemented.

If they change it so it's an option you can set and refine it a bit, it could be an addition that makes players happy.

I can't believe anybody really supports this new N7 rank based matchmaking.
I think it's far easier to wait 1 minute to have a low ranker join your Gold lobby and then kick him from the lobby if you don't like his rank, level and/or equipment (you can explain your reasons to them over the mike before executing the kick. And I had some people joining with a N7 rank in the lower 2-digits, that didn't even know what a Gold match was!) than to have to wait 30 minutes or more for a similar ranked person to join.
I rather play a game in the meantime with a low rank than stare at the lobby screen for the same amount of time waiting for a random to join.

Sorry, but this idea of using the N7 rank in such a narrow manner wasn't really thought through! Any player with an N7 rank of 2000 or higher can't invite any randoms any more. At least not, if he doesn't want to wait 2 hours to have a join happen.

So Bioware, please stop discussing it and ROLL IT BACK! IT'S SIMPLY NOT WORKING!

Do you need me to give you all the reasons (not enough high ranked players online at the same time. Most of them playing in private lobbies anyways, so they are not part of the random pool etc. etc.), why the idea was bad or can you just accept the fact, that it takes forever (30 minutes+) to have only ONE random join a high ranking lobby now? And that waiting 30 minutes between matches if you only have 2 hours of playing time isn't desireable AT ALL!

I am at Rank 700+ at the moment and not sure anymore, if I should further level up or just keep playing my Level 20 characters. Is that what you want to happen? People keeping their N7 rank intentionally low to still have a chance of using the matchmaking to fill a lobby?
