I posted some info on the can't download DLC, but I now have new information. There are 2 problems. One is unable to download and install 1.03 patch. The other is can't download DLC. My problem is 1.03 patch. When I do 'check for updates', it refuses to download. Tried for 4 hours and chatted with EA support with no resolution. I did not know there was a patch at this point. I thought it was just a DLC download so I went into the game (still v1.02) and was able to download the DLC, buy new packs, play new maps. The problem is it is hard to find any matches since most people were able to upgrade to v1.03. I only figured this out when I tried to join in games with people on my friendlist and got the version mismatch message.
Bioware, how can I upgrade to v1.03 if Origin will not download and install? I'm on Win7 64-bit and my ME3 was from Amazon digital download.
Can't download 1.03 patch (as opposed to the DLC)

problem originated from Origin, not bioware,. i think Origin server having a down time (crash) go figures,. 20M + people D/L and patching their game from Origin @ the same time.

DLC Downloaded fine for me, however I cannot patch ME3. Tried everything. I wish this was the old times where we could manually download the patch

I finally got it to patch using the suggestion from this thread.
http://social.biowar.../index/12308205
I had found another thread on EA's forums for another file with read only permissions. The above thread references a different file. It seems there are multiple files that causes issues with the patching. Anyway, I'm all clear and happy now.

Try this: http://forum.ea.com/...A556B97DB66D83B
It takes you to a page to download an updated version of origin (newer than the just released 8.6), which might allow you to download the patch as well as launch the game from origin.

I did what you suggested and it seems to have updated my game. Before I kept getting the 'you must be logged in as an admin' prompt, which obvioulsy I am. I tried both 'repair install' and 'check for updates' for ME3 and got this message over and over again.
I went to this forum, downloaded the Origin setup, ran it, changed the privlage level on both ME3.exe and origin to run as admin (just to be sure), then did the 'check for update' thing again. It took about 5 minutes, but it said it updated.
Question: How can I check which version of ME3 I have installed? I want to be sure it's patched?
Time will tell if it fixes the fact that I can't play with my origin friends though.
Thanks for this.

Sorry, didn't get back sooner. Open your windows explorer, go to your ME3 folder, look under binaries, in either your win32 or win64 folder for your ME3.exe file, right click for properties and check version. With 1.3 patch, you should have version 1.3.xxx something.

Grinch57, Thanks for that answer! I was amazed that bioware support chat couldn't tell me that.
