This isn't intentional, is it? I'm starting the DLC from after post-game, if that really makes any difference,
For some reason I can't select Carver when I'm choosing my party for the Mark of the Assassin DLC...

No, he isn't dead. I made him a Grey Warden. I had him in my party when I played the Legacy DLC.

Have you done the first part, where you go to Hightown? Carver/Bethany isn't selectable until you're about to leave Kirkwall. You'll get another character selection screen (after you talk to Tallis, I think), where he should be available.

There's a reason you don't get to choose them during the first bit which is explained after.
