Do the bad guys count as well?

If so I'd say the Grandmaster of the Flaming Rose in The Witcher 1. Conjuring an entire world to hide in is impressive.

If that doesnt count, the Protoss in StarCraft2's Zerathul missions, because you played them and actually got to feel the loss yourself rather than seeing a cutscene.

Halo Reach, Noble Six. No contest.

Yep.  Agreed.  Marston's is right up there though.

Just found my old copy of MGS: The Twin Snakes a few days ago when returning home, perfectly preserved. Still one of my most favourite scenes in a video game ever. Even got my 9-year old brother into the series now. Shame I don't have the others anymore, cept MGS4, never had that one.

Looked up RDR ending. He charges into bullets. That's really it? And bloody hell are the graphics bad, lol.

I felt the Cyborg Ninja stuff got out of hand in the MGS series, but Gray Fox's last stand on REX was just so damn cool. I like the Noble Six scenes, but I knew he was going to die, so the suspense was gone. Dom's scene in Gears was completely ruined by the mad world song they used.

Another great scene if you grew up with the SNES.

Um, Ikaruga. I feel like there's one I'm forgetting, though.

Red Dead and Halo Reach.

Even though i don't care much for Halo, Noble Six's last stand was a truly nit, shinning example of compelling storytelling and gameplay going hand to hand.
and John Marston... :crying:

If you didn't think it was that inspirational I guess that's your problem, but bad graphics? I'm sorry, but you're just flat-out wrong on that account. Red Dead is a gorgeous game.

Context is so important. In short, he did everything that was asked of him, settled down with his family, gets attacked, and sacrafices his self for his family. Meanwhile, once it's time to die, none of it is a cutscene. You are trapped in the barn, and have to purposefully walk out to your death. You set the targets. Yet in the end, you die during gameplay. With no restart screen.

It was an amazing display and a wonder to play through. The atmosphere was nailed perfectly. Maybe you just have to play it to appreciate it... Image IPB

That sounded amazing. You should record that stuff, i've seen people on youtube go mad for a nicely edited vid like that.

And thanks alot! Sadly the only thing I took was some screenshots of the company. But that's actually an intriguing idea. I do have FRAPS, but I never thought to do anything related to Skyrim considering it is an immensely popular game with many established youtubers covering it. Maybe with the Dawnguard xpac (crossbows!) I might devote some time to that. Ves isn't complete unless she is wielding a crossbow Image IPB

While Grey Fox's death wasn't quite the typical last stand, I still consider it one.

But I liked Noble Six's as well.

Feels a bit more significant when you actually play the game and know the whole story.

That said, I don't think it was a particularly good last stand gameplay-wise.

Dom deserved better than to go out with a slow motion scene of him falling from a truck with a rendition of mad world playing.

He should have been there to the end, jumped onto the locust queens bug transport, grabbed her, stabbed her through the chest and jumped off with her to their deaths.
