After many frustrating public silver matches I decided do stay on bronze for public, and just go silver (or gold for that matter) when I play with friends. And it turns out that playing on bronze or silver actually makes little difference apart from the strenght of the enemies.

Let's sum it up (keep in mind, those are personal and subjective values):

BRONZE...
  • usually takes me around 12 to 13 minutes per round
  • usually grants me around 180.000 experience
  • usually grants me around 15.000 credits
SILVER...
  • usually takes me 25 to 26 minutes (but have a high chance of taking longer due to hard objectives)
  • usually grants me around 240.000 experience
  • usually grants me around 33.000 credits
In an hours time I earn as much credits (and even more experience on bronze, as it seems) in both kinds of games. But for me personally there are several advantages I get by chosing bronze over silver:

  • The chance of beating a public bronze map is - for me - considerably higher than beating a silver map
  • A lost silver match (or two...three in a row) is not only frustrating, it also lowers the above values considerably.
  • I kept wasting equipment in silver matches (winning or not) to the point where I hardly got any missles / medipacks left.
  • This in turn forced me to conserve on these consumables and this in turn made silver matches even harder.

Please READ FIRST, before bashing me:

Why am I posting this? I am NOT, I repeat I am NOT saying that either of those is better or worse. I am NOT complaing that silver (gold) is too hard. There are players who are in fact much better than me and they enjoy the challenge. As they should be. As a matter of fact I'm a bit jealous of your skill...just a bit. *g*

All I'm saying is - and after seeing many players fail in the silver maps, along with me - that it is not a MUST to play silver. The monetary advantages are very small in my experience. If you feel like it's not fun for you, switch to bronze.

Well...see you around in a bronze game. ^_^

I don't burn through all my equipment in a bronze match and its great place to work on the different character configurations that will not jeopardize Gold and Silver matches.

How many players took their new toys into Gold Match without testing in the Bronze match first?

180,000 for a bronze match and 240,000 for silver? I think you may be off by a factor of ten.

I usually prefer Bronze over Silver because Silver seems to be full of players who think they're too good for Bronze, but in fact are terrible. I can carry a so-so team, but when my teammates insist on dying every 30 seconds there's not much I can do and Silver seems to be overflowing with teammates like that.

Considering how many times I got blasted for liking the PA simply because I started in Bronze and worked my way up reporting on different difficulties?

99% of the people on the fourms according the ever helpful people with the TIM avatar. God I had a hard time replying because I was laughing so hard because that avatar made it impossible to take them seriously.

Combine this with the confusion that's playing a new map AND a new character who's full capablities you have yet to understand? Yeah, good luck with that. And after all those times those same people have said that Bronze is for testing too. The lower difficulties are good places to hone your skills. SCIENCE! does not belong on Gold. Established, polished A games go there.

What do you mean? 18.000xp for bronze, or 2.400.000xp for silver? Both impossible I say. I do 112.000xp on a bronze single run (I tested the Krysae, fine piece :D) . So it's only natural that a team gets more. And 2.4 million xp on silver? Never seen that. ^^

I'd prefer to play through bronze since I usually only get about an hour a week to get online, but the reward is just dismal and it's too boring after Gold entered my veins and silver was beefed up. Not enough bang for the time spent.

But bronze pubs tend to be the best, followed by Gold, then the mess that is Silver. I don't have much of a friend roster, so it's straight up Pubs.

Actually I don't equip consumables for Silver (usually, unless I'm leveling). But I do tend to use more of the standard consumables (rockets, medigel).

I do see your point about saving consumables (like medigel, rockets) when you do Bronze. But I think that Silver has been overall more "profitable" for me. My silver teams (usually private matches) tend to succeed more often than not and when we don't at least we get Bronze Lvl credits.

But as far as difficulty goes I think that Silver is in that sweetspot for me: not too difficult, not too easy.

That's exactly my point. You get bronze-credits, but only if you survive past wave 10 (or maybe 9). If you lose in an earlier wave - and when it happens it happens quite often - you get less, usually spent more time than in a bronze match (20 to 25 mins), get the same or less experience at best, may even have used up all the medigel and rockets in an attempt to salvage the situation (in vain)...and you're frustrated.

I know that people can deal with stress and frustration differently. I guess I'm not a worst-case-szenario in that regards, but not a sunshine either. It gets to me, especially after two or three lost rounds. ^^

So, for the record, let's agree that how one deals with frustration is another major factor here. :)

isn't gold wave3 succeeded equally to the whole bronce mission and gold wave 6 equally to the whole silver match. everything more you do in gold is bonus. I guess, you can say the same about silver wave6 and whole bronce

Also you see then how the people play until wave 6 and you know, if it is worth to invest all the consumables or not :-)

I was chatting with a gamer buddy this afternoon on skype and we agreed it would be good to have something between Bronze/Silver and I made a comment a Gold +, in the gold plus use some of the boss's from ME3

Credits-wise I do think Bronze ends up being better (with randoms). But Silver is certainly more challenging. I def don't feel like Bronze is practice for Gold in the same way that Silver is.

nothing wrong with choosing bronze or silver. Both are fun and I play both depending on the situation of my characters and what I feel like playing.

representing the Bronze Effect group =)

With Bronze feeling too easy for some and silver feeling too hard...a difficulty in between those two comes to mind...

No question about it, gold is probably a killer credit- and xp-wise. Problem is...it's too hard for me since I'm too bad for it. ;)

But like I said...those who are able to beat gold, go for it! :)

Yes.

Imho, as soon as you start getting bored with bronze, gold is inevitable.  Silver is a necessary step, but the teammates you get on gold generally make up for the harder difficulty.  I agree that while there are plenty of fine players on silver, you run into more people who should not really be there than on gold.

The only real bummer on gold games is a round 9 or 10 (pre mission completion) wipe.  Then from a straight credits argument, you probably would have been better off in silver.  Still more exciting though.

This is tough one as I think it does depend on the player, the equipment, and who's on your team. Sometimes I feel like I spend most of my sliver matches saving players.

Yeah, especially as infiltrator. When you loose the match with 10+ revives it feels so odd, especially when you used up all your medigel, rockets and shield boosts. :(

It tends to be dictated by my character level. 1-12 I stick with Bronze, 13-18 Silver and above that Gold.

A lot of it is who you're teamed up with too. Some Silver games all I do is rescue people, other Silver games I can barely get off the floor.

To be really honest.. if we are looking at the numbers you are providing, it seems more to be a job than anything.

Personally, I play almost exclusively Bronze. Why? For fun. I can bring a Grenadier Soldier build and have fun freezing everything in sight. I can run around with an AA without expending a single round from the Phalanx and still contribute. I can roast things with the Reegar or the Scimitar on a GI, or play with whatever guns I happen to have a liking for at the point in time.

I go into Bronze and I see the goofballs there and I go WTF.. but guess what? I have fun recounting all those screwball stories. Rather than the stressful Gold or repetitive WGG games (and I got into one or two of those myself.. mostly for events). I remember when the silly Quarian had a melee fixation, or when that goofball Vanguard used a Cobra to vapourize that Guardian.

The game's been out for 2 months. Granted it feels a bit grindy from time to time, but I'm still logging almost 4 games every other night. And I have a 5 page long thread to prove it. :) I'm still having fun, I'm still to explore (or actually FIND!) the Krogan Vanguard and various other classes. Legs, I got. :)

95% of the silver games I do (that are public) are usually successful. Now that I have found my spot with my Vorcha Sentinel, I'm taking him into silver a lot more. I usually do bronze if I just need that extra boost credit wise to get that pack that I'm close to getting. In public games, success highly depends on who you're teamed with, what they have in terms of characters and loadouts, their supplies count (rockets, spec op packs, etc), and if they have the appropriate consumables on. I usually don't use consumables on bronze, only the gear. Some matches you do really good and others you just bomb.

I will surely jump on silver again once my consumeables (specially medigel and rockets) are replenished. It is usually going this way, that in bronze games I conserve those and amount a rather big stock (buying more with the money I earn) while I silver games I use it up faster than I can replenish it.

Oh and BTW, since reading the post above about finding ones spot...most definitely this is also based on your class, how familiar you are with it and how good you're able to play with.

I admit that I usually suck with my Turian sentinel. :P I have him at level 20, already used a stat-reset-card and followed some internet guide to build him up effectively. I also have rather good gear and use him quite effectively as a support-class, stunning enemies by the dozens each wave.

Still...I often loose my silver games playing with this class. Maybe coincidence, maybe not.

On the other hand I tend to win my silver games with my Salarian infiltrator. Using stealth to do the mission objectives and to revive fallen mates definitely helpes as much as being able to strip shields and shoot enemies with my N7 Valiant II. *g*

Starting silver players are still learning to read the situation.

Bronze: Players shoot a missile at everything bigger than your average trooper
Silver: Players have learned not to shoot a missile at everything bigger than your average trooper
Gold: Players have learned to shoot a missile at everything which threathens the mission.

Guess where you as experienced player have to use the most missiles?
Example, which I believe you'll all have seen: 2 Banshees in the hacking circle and Ravagers blasting away from a distance. One shoots a missile at either the Banshees or the Ravagers. But in Silver no one shoots a missile and all get shot to hell by the Ravagers.

[Edit: meant Ravagers not Ravager]

I always do much better in silver than in bronze or gold... I'm just more comfortable with it than the others.

I find most classes don't really start to shine until at least sliver...e.g. trying to get off biotic and tech combos in bronze without seeing +Assist 0.2 secs later is a living nightmare... and my averages are always way down compared to silver.

I'll play Gold occasionally but I find it pretty unpleasant... turning my armor into tissue paper doesn't make a game fun.

I can solo a few non-objective rounds on silver with some classes when I have to but I just don't get the appeal of gold at all. You don't really have to focus on teamwork on silver unless the group is really crappy which I like. Gold is too much teamwork and too much hassle for me.

you say 13 min and 15K for bronze Vs 26 min and 33K on silver - according to those numbers a silver game will make you a little more than 2 bronze games will (and it takes the same gaming time), and you cut down by half the time you waste searching for games and in lobbies.
To me at least, the rate in which i fail silver matches is negligible, so the only real question is how many medigels and rockets are wasted for you every silver match and how many you replenish when buying packs - also it's important to keep in mind that these things are there to be used! there is no gain from hoarding them and no penalty for running out of them.

And finally, if you only play silver obviously your skill will increase to meet the demands.
In short - i think you should stick to silver :P

12 to 13 minutes per bronze match? Was that 4 Nova-Vanguards all at the same time? lol
