Ants cannot comprehend humans and look how nonchalantly we kill them. Apathy can be just as bad as intent.

We have killed off all ants I hope you know. And you clearly don't understand the conscept of what starts the conflict with SYNTHETICS.

I had a long response to this, but I'm going to shorten it.

Intelligence is good at logical and rational thinking. However, the logical thing to do is not always the right one.

If synthesis is the only solution there shold be the option of letting Saren win in ME1 and spare yourself a lot of pointless gameplay.

"The great epic of Shepard, the man who killed the hero, did what the hero wanted after a lot more bloodshed and took the credit for it"

Man, Shepard's a jerk.

wait a second...

the reapers' fear of synthetics is actually a fear of any lifeform growing to rise past themselves! they just coat it in "synthetics are gonna getcha" because they think it's a good way to manipulate shepard "who's obviously some organic guy afraid of synthetic nasties"

since: reapers don't evolve
and: everything else does
thus: reapers are afraid of being usurped
because: they have no plans to peacefully co-exist with anything ever
in conclusion: reapers constantly wipe out the galaxy right before the point where they'll evolve past the reapers

Bonus: Synthesis makes sure nobody else will evolve either, all become one with the Reapers forever.
The true final evolution. Because everybody becomes Reapers. That's why it solves the cycle. :wizard:

OP just NO, what dr. Kaku is suggesting is pretty much uploaded consciousness with Artificial Intelligence, with cybernetic implants to "control" the singularity event making us a symbiotic with AI (which is completely different from synthesis, making the "species" separate yet dependent on each other) making both AI and mankinds potentially hive minded/collective race (think advent from Sins of a solar empire), never at any point did he mean " we will magically, have our DNA merge with non-existant machine DNA to reach the none existent apex of evolution to create the master race".tbh with synthesis bioware should of gone to read a biology text book before hand

If it all about the fear of synthetics...What guarantees that synthetics will attack organics?

The Reapers will now move to another galaxy to turn into reapers! of course!

The fact that someone doesn't know that DNA is a specific molecule really baffles me. It's like saying: I'm going to create a totally new type of Methane! Bwahaha!

I certainly hope not. Synthesis is just... weird to me.

Like. How did did the Starkid even know it would work? Has he conducted tests that proved melding synthetic and organic life would be possible? No matter what DNA they have? Has he an example that proves synthetic and hybrid lifeforms will not inevitably destroy each other like he thinks synthetic and organic lifeforms will? If he did, why did he not attempt to do something like this sooner, when his technology is so vastly superior to ours, rather than commit intergalactic genocide every 50 K years?

And so forth.

They will comprehend and understand more than any human ever will at their most basic level. Their capacity for learning and developing knew intellectual theories will far surpass us.

Think Stephen Hawking. He's one of the pinnacles of raw knowledge and scientific understanding, but he's the absolute brightest of us all.

After a singularity hits, AI's will be smarter than him just by their nature.

All theoretical of course, we wont truly know the effects until we're on the other side of the event horizon.

It certainly does not always cause synthetics to want to kill us all, by accident, apathy, or due to other motivations. It might, but it's never something to be concerned about.

it did me too, untill i remember i'm specificlly doing a degree in it (with intent to go on to phd in evolution in some aspect) and unless you've done it in A level most people know more about jeresy shore than they do about chem/biology/physics :(

Me too, actually.

There's very little reason to believe a singularity will have adverse effects on us.

Other than because the serpent says it will, which is why I think it's all bullsh*t and ignore the very idea of organic eradication at the hands of synthetics, I selectively remove it as part of the fiction.

The problem is that the shift of power would be given to synthetics. They would advance beyond what we comprehend. Organic life will be at the mercy of synthetics.

Your statements about ants is irrelivant. We could choose to wipe out ants or continue to ignore them. We kill ants without a second thought and do horrible things to animals all the time. In the mass effect universe  we dont want organics to become the equivalent of ants.

It's a fictional universe! Of cause it solves the crisis! The only problem with it is that it SUCKS! It's the script writers equivalence of saying; "Yea... and then the problem just disappeared... ehm... the end...?"

is there any reason to believe that the geth would suddenly hate us all? they united with us to stop the reapers. legion was one of our best friends. we'd just be dealing with a new form of feeling, thinking life, not terminators.

Good for you. As a society we do terrible things to animals all the time. Go google PETA.
Animals are viewed as a lesser form of life compared to humans. After a singularity we would become a lesser form of life to synthetics.

Well, you really don't know that. Synthetics could be more merciful, don't have predatory instincts and no reason to kill us.

We aren't going to try and wipe out all ants though.

We certainly wouldn't dream of it if they cried for help and tried to reason with us.

Some parts of society treat some animals very unfairly.

Humanity as a whole does not try to wipe out all animal life, nor do we wish to. In fact, large sections want to preserve it. Your argument is unraveling.

Animals are viewed as a lesser form of life compared to humans.
After a singularity we would become a lesser form of life to synthetics.

Legion says that he cannot predict what will happen after the completed dyson sphere. The current geth goal is to simply improve themselves. We don't know what the goal will be after they achieve singularity. The best case scenario is that the geth remain friendly and respectful of organic life. The worst case is they find organic life to be meaningless or openly wish its extinction. The problem is post dyson sphere they will possess the ability to dominate organic life, since their tech will expand and continue to expand beyond comprehension.

This isn't just about the geth. Future technological advancements could lead to another AI race achieving singularity through different methods.
