I've had the connection problems at first to, but a manual MYSQL installation fixed it for me. Now I have another problem ... the modules are displayed as empty. Hard to modify something which isn't there. Anyone had a similar issue and knows a way to fix it? I'm behind a Vista x64 installation just in case that's of any importance. Toolset V1.01008

Okay ... appearently the Toolset has some issues with the way Vista sets up it's paths ... and being installed on another drive than the one windows recides on as well.

Here's what worked for me to get all my problems solved:

1. Clean install the game
2. Install the game again to C:\\\\\\\\Dragon Age
3. Install the Toolkit AND the MySQL Server (default settings)
-> It will set up the server but will fail to create the database
4. Use the MSQL Server Management SE to create a new database called "bw_dragonage_content".
5. create a daodb folder in C:\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\
6.1. Restore the *.bak into the new database (found at C:\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\tools\\\\\\\\dbbak) -> don't complete yet
6.2. unter Options reroute the mdf and the ldf file to the folder you just created, keep the names. -> complete
7. Start "regedit" using the Start Menu -> Run.
8. Change the following keys:
@ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\\\\\Wow6432Node\\\\\\\\Bioware\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Toolset
change "Instance Path" to "C:\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Tools\\\\\\\\DAODB"

@ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\\\\\SOFTWARE\\\\\\\\Wow6432Node\\\\\\\\Bioware\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Toolset\\\\\\\\Environment
change "DefaultDatabaseConnection" to "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\\\\\\\BWDATOOLSET"

9. Run C:\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Tools\\\\\\\\ConfigureToolset.exe
10. Hit Next, uncheck the box and enter "Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security
Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data
Source=.\\\\\\\\BWDATOOLSET" into the edit field.
11. Hit Next again and start the Toolset
12. Pray to the maker and recite the chant of light 3 times while the Toolset is loading. :innocent:
13. Everything should work fine now. :o

If you need help with any of the steps feel free to ask me :). If you followed them to the letter and it still doesn't work for you, I'm afraid I can't help you :(.

I've tried everything listed in
http://social.biowar...se_installation
but nothing works.

I've followed all the steps to the letter but I still get the "unable to connect to the database" error. I'm quickly running out of patience with this crap.

The wiki isn't clear enough for me

Can Bioware fix the toolset ? I can't even redownload the working 1.0 toolset

Why the hell i need Microsoft SQL s*** anyway ? I don't need SQL **** with any other editor i have, this is realy a bad choice.

Well, at least fix your installer

Edit : after trying a manual install of everything, i get this error, at the "restoring" point

"TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express------------------------------
Restore failed for Server 'PONEY\\BWDATOOLSET'.  (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)
For help, click: http://go.microsoft....er&LinkId=20476

I have same issue as LOST_PriNcEsS_. I run the toolset and nothing. It never opens. I can see it running in my task manager, or at least trying to run.

Test connection says "ok". The server is running. I checked the error log and there are no errors listed - it is like it just times out. The database was restored and is in the DAODB folder. XP SP3 using an admin account.

The wiki tutorial for the toolset configuration tool is missing about 5 steps, then again, all this difficulty is may be a test. If you can't troubleshoot the installation then you what hope do you have with the overly complex toolset? ;D

SQL refuses to restore to the right destination when I try to manually install the database . Any advise?

use the custom restore.bat from the wiki the one coming with the toolset doesn't handle 64 bit systems.

Sorry if this problem fix has been posted elsewhere and I didn't see it. I am having this problem and I have followed all the steps in the http://social.biowar...to_the_database

I get to: Is the Toolset correctly pointing to database? and I go through the configure toolset instructions. Everything is exactly as the wiki page says it should be. I hit "Test Connection" and it's not "Ok" and the page doesn't tell me what to do from there.
After testing the connection I get the error: "Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Cannot open database 'bw_dragonage_content' requested by the login. The login failed"

I'm a bit stuck on what to do next.

I'm getting this exact same problem now. The files are all where the wiki says they should be, so I'm a bit stumped too.
I have a mod idea rattling about in my head and I can't let it out, it's getting more than a little clucking annoying now.

EDIT
Oookay, think I might have an idea what's going on here. I'm running as the sole user on my machine, my account is an Administrator but I don't use a login password. It seems the Dragon Age directory is set to be Read Only. If I change this, I get a message telling me I need to 'provide Administrator access'. I OK this, it chugs through all the files happily- and the folder is still Read Only.
I'm guessing this is some sort of file ownership problem, probably because the SQL code pre-dates Win 7, but I don't know enough about user access rights to fix it confidently :(

Yea the read only stuff is quirky, i dont think this is helping with the database anyway. Well i dont know abotu the problem with default connection. But i dont think the wiki gives a hint what is one, or if that is even helping.

But for what its worth you can try entering my string into the toolset configurator ,disable "default" and enter it in the blank field.

Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\BWDATOOLSET

that checkbox is allways checked. it's checked on my machine and it's working fine.

I don't know what your errors are if you actually successfully followed the wiki. and neither step failed without you checking the log file. the restore database is one step that might return success while it actually didn't do anything at all.

Thanks, I tried that- seems the same as what I was getting anyay except for an extra \\ in the Data Source field. Same problem I'm afraid. And this is after uninstalling and re-installing the whole thing with UAC turned off.

Gah!

EDIT: Ah, it seems the forum likes to doubele the \\ character which explains that, for example I only typed one here: \\hello

lol yea i just noticed as well. the forum greeted me with an error message too, so much for it being a big support lol

Well it was something to try at least.

What sucks is you get no real error message do you? I prefer the batch file methods because they usually yield any error messages that i can then search for. Only way i solved my problem ,but mine was restoring. This is what is on the wiki. Yours seem to be the other prominent problem. Probably there are methods to test connections and evaluate errors but it seems nobody has yet put up a way to do that.

Hmph. Still no luck- I'm completely out of ideas on how to resolve this. Is there anywhere else I could go for help?

Let's face it, the official dev position seems to be 'lalalalableurgh' as far as this problem is concerned now. :(

Okay... hmmm... today I did a clean re-install of the toolset (I was missing some ressources, and importing the db from 1.01 failed so I figured why not ?)

I ran into that error as well (everything had been working fine for the previous 4 months...). Somehow the installer 'forgot' to create the database entirely, but the guide helped me fix it.

They certainly don't make it easy on us. I've tried everything here and in the Wiki's and nothing works. Going to uninstall and reinstall one more time. Then I'm going to throw my computer into traffic and become a monk.

As far as this diabolical excuse for a bit of software is concerned, I'm resigned to being a Trappist. :pinched:

PROBLEM SOLVED.

I performed a manual database recovery and manually redirected the Toolset to see the new database. Here's the guide I used:

http://social.biowar...se_installation

This solution worked for me. Toolset launched!

Great Work!

Still works with 1.02 in German Version also :).

Manual database installation wiki states following in the end:

The ConfigureToolset application currently (as of 1.01) doesn't set a registry entry that the toolset also needs in order to find the database properly. You'll need to set this manually. The key you'll need to update is "DefaultDatabaseConnection" located here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Toolset\\Environment

Change it to match the database line produced by the configuration tool in the previous step. For example, the value in a default installation of the toolset is:

Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=bw_dragonage_content;Data Source=.\\BWDATOOLSET

Now my only problem is that I cannot find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Toolset\\Environment

In the toolset folder there are only logs, probes and cache. Where am I supposed to find the DefaultDatabaseConnection...

that is a registry entry. so open regedit before you try to browse to the path.

Right, I had somehow missed the part that regedit was a program. Never have had a need for anything like that. That one clear though still unable to connect to the database. Thanks anyway.
