1. Install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 before installing the toolset.
2. When installing the toolset (v. 1.01), leave the Install SQL Server 2005 SP3 checked (it also says something about "use default database", I left that box checked as well).
This worked using Windows XP SP3. I hope this will be useful for you too.

It shall work on both OSs, WinXP and Win7.
Just start the "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET)" Service and you'll be able to start the toolset.
Go to start, and search for services.msc. Open the service program and scroll down until "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET)" shows up. Right click into it and click Properties, set the Startup type to "Manual" or "Automatic", apply and start the service by clicking the "Start" button. Done. Now you should be able to start the toolset.

PROBLEM SOLVED.<br />

I performed a manual database recovery and manually redirected the Toolset to see the new database. Here's the guide I used: <br />

This solution worked for me. Toolset launched!
Thank you, Malcroix, THANK YOU! Finally, finally got this blasted toolset to launch.

And you, you gave me faith to restore the toolset from my trashcan and try again, when the BWDATOOLSET server is stopped, toolset does not say a thing, just loads, and when I start the server or it is started, toolset wakes up and simply says "Unable to connect to the database" BULL****RyuHayabusa-II wrote...
Oh guys... I know about this issue and it's pretty simple to solve:

Seems that everyone has a different way of fixing it, but, for me, even yours didn't work.crimsonrain95 wrote...
Dunno if this has already been mentioned, but blog entry here fixed it for me:

Not sure if this is of any use Dunquixote, but I just had some joy installing in Windows 8.1 using SQL 2008 Express instead of using 2005. I'm too much of a noob to fully understand why, however...
