Consistent and fluid plot progression, a subquest menu that makes sense, an inspiring ending, hope for the future of the games universe, no day 1 dlc that was obviously ripped from the game... you know, really knit pickey small portion of the fan base stuff.

As small as it is, I miss being able to use the airlock to exit the ship instead of a loading screen. I was so bummed the first time I went to Omega in ME2

Not needing to worry about ammo, and the inventory system.

And the innocent, wide-eyed expectation that I would be able to win the Reaper war.

Exploration and full dialogue wheels
The Soundtrack
The RPG-Elements
Overheating Guns instead of ammo rounds - i think overheating fits better to the setting

if they have added (to ME1 !!!) the paragon/renegade - options and the loyalty missions from ME2, reduced the lot of redundant loot and made some more different base-leveldesign on the mako missions, the game would nearly be perfect!!!

But they did it mostly the other way..... :-( :-( :-(

  • Exploration (even the mako)
  • How large the citadel felt
  • The one liners squadmates could give on missions
  • The journal system that updated itself
  • The inventory system (played on PC)
  • Hot keys for journal, codex, ect.
  • Lots of little side quest that made the galaxy feel large

Saving the council. It felt like a big thing to do and I liked the cutscenes. That and Sovereign.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. Since I know the reapers are Robin Hoody's sockpuppets and that his motivations run along the line of "yo dawg I heard you don't like getting killed by synthetics .. etc" I don't find 'em all that awesome a villain anymore.

Out of the three games I actually rank Me1 at the bottom. But this is not to say it is a bad game at all. In fact I still consider it to be a wonderful game. I feel like majority of the changes they made in Me2 were all in the right direction, and don't look back on ME1's inventory, mako, "exploration" of empty worlds, or even the armor with rose colored glasses. But I don't want to bash on what other people liked as this is not what the thread is about.

What I miss:
-A more neutral option to Shepard. Not indifferent or bland, but just someone who is not a ultimate badass or saintly soldier. ME2 did have neutral options but they seemed to be more of "Go on" type of lines that are only meant to continue the conversations as opposed to setting a personality. ME3 really polarized the Renegade/Paragon morality system and just flat out eliminated a middle option in most circumstances.

-Less emphasis of sex for the sake of sex. I'm far from a prude and can't believe I'm actually asking for less hot ladies in game...but that is what I'm asking for it seems. Ashley and Liara did not have the luxury of having individual body models, nor did they have personalized "armor" that was meant to be snug in all the right places. What made them attractive to players generally fell under personality and the dynamics of their relationship with their type of Shepard. Now I'm not saying women can't have great bodies nor show it off if they please, but the impracticality of Miranda, Jack, and Samara's outfits in Me2 are really a blatant disregard for "reality." It's pretty obvious why they are designed the way they are, and I feel like it's actually more of a distraction to their character rather than a boon to their persona. They made up for it somewhat with a few alternate appearance packs, and Liara/Ashley do get armored options in ME3...but then they do something like EDI. You could argue about the other characters, but no one is denying that EDI's appearance is meant to be sexed up. Even BW won't argue as they constantly lampshade the hell out of her appearance. I'm starting to rant so better finish this part fast...Basically I'd rather had seen them go back to pratical clothing/armor for ALL of the team.

-Control over what weapon color you had. You couldn't change the color of an individual weapon, but you could find the exact same model with different colors if you wanted. Might not be the best weapon available, but if you wanted a red shotgun you could have it. Me2 just decided to completely ignore that and make the weapons have only one color scheme to them. Me3 does allow for a limited amount of color, but it's randomly tied into what mods you are using. It made me stop using most of the mods actually because armor piercing rounds III (random example) made my pistol a normal black color, but then I pick up armor piercing rounds IV and suddenly it's this silly baby blue. I either have to deal with it or drop the mods altogether. That limits customization, which they claimed they wanted MORE of. So why not just use a slightly toned down version of the Armor color system?

-A precise Journal. This is getting nit-picky, but the Journal is a tool that is meant to help you if you are stuck or need reminding of what all to do. So it stands to reason that the Journal should be...helpful. In Me3 the Journal is unorganized, not concise, doesn't always update properly, and most of the time I had to guess where to go.

That's mostly it for me. It's not a lot but what I had to say on it was. As much as I like ME1 I still prefer the other games over it. Gameplay is better, the characters (some at least) get more development, Shepard becomes less stiff, the editing/pacing is much better, and there is more humor injected into the series.

- Armor customization for companions (f*** off with "iconic looks")
- More hub worlds.

Planet exploration. They could have perfected this by now if thru hadn't just scrapped it. Imagine pulling off a 3 mile shot with the Widow on some desolate planet. More hubs. Saren Arterius. Drew Karpyshyns writing and full dialogue wheels.

Most everything else has been improved immensely. BW is still good in my book as long as they fix the ending fiasco.

Anderson punching Udina in the face.

It was fun giving your squadmates arms and armor, but inventory management overall took up way too much time. Throwing the Mako around was cool. And you can never replicate the wonder of discovering new things and races.

It's the weakest game of the three. Still great, though.

Something I really miss from ME2. Carring around heavy weapons. The variation of missions. And the ending that took your actions into consideration.

Pretty much everything I liked in ME1 was improved on in ME2 and ME3.

The only thing I felt the sequels were missing were an iconic villain. In ME1, you're a Spectre hunting down another Spectre. The villain is interesting, and plays a central role.

With ME2, you can argue that you're working with a villain, but the antagonist of the game is the Collectors, and while Harbinger appears every now and again thats not the same thing. They were a pretty faceless enemy.

Then with ME3, they tried to make TIM the key villain but kept him in the background for most of the game. Kai Leng was underused and rather disappointing imo. And the Reapers, who should've been fronted by Harbinger, were pretty faceless. That kind of works for the Reapers, but it did make Harbinger feel like a wasted opportunity. And without a relatable villain, the story didn't quite live up to ME1's. TIM was meant to be ME3's Saren, but was kept in the sidelines for too much of the game, only cropping up for brief conversations.

Overall though, while I'd rate ME1's story as easily the best I'd rate it as the weakest of the three games overall. Still love it though.

The galaxy seemed a lot bigger in Mass Effect 1. I miss that. Also the atmosphere changed a bit. To be honest though, if Mass Effect 2 had planet exploration like ME1, but kept the gunplay as it is now, it would probably have been the best game ever.

Full dialogue wheels, choices, everyone having a name, interesting side quests, the exploration, the customization, the Mako, almost no autodialogue, "It's just a big, stupid jellyfish!", and "We don't have time to deal with this idiot, CHARGE!"
