I keep seeing people talk about missing the Mako, but all people did was **** about the Mako.

"Crappy controls, stupid side quests with horrible level design" QQ

I also remember people ****ing about how "EAfied" ME2 was, and how it was "catering" to shooter game happy 17 year olds. Now, many are celebrating ME2 as the best game in the series (personally I actually think it´s the worst, but that is just me).

Was this post asking about ME2? No.

And apparentely you missed my point.
My point was that, as you stated, many fans of ME complained about something regarding the games, but then, later on, began to praise that particular something instead.

An ending that made me want to play more, instead of killing any desire I had to play any game in the franchise again.

Like several others stated (and I'm throwing in ME2 stuff as well):
  • The variety of mission styles (from car-chases to shootouts to tank-action to stealth, to taking over another character ...),
  • exploration,
  • puzzles (either in minigames or having to figure out a solution on your own with or without your gun),
  • drunk rhinos and tissue-paper vehicles,
  • parallel story paths where one can do plot-critical missions in different orders mixed with non-critical missions at the player's discretion (but that's not meaning there shouldn't be timed non-critical missions [ex. Grissom] or missions that become unavailable after an event [such as Benning: Evidence])
  • and I'm sure there's more that I cannot recall at this time.

The exploration of the Citadel. Loved the size and scope of it. Seemed so much smaller in the next two games.

The elevator rides. One of the few that preferred hearing the banter of squad verses a loading screen. Thought that was a clever way of "hiding" those loading screens.

More options on the dialogue wheel.

And lastly - loved emerging from the crash like I was Wonder Woman or something. Just awesome. Could (and did) play that game over and over just to see that conclusion.

I'm replaying it now (currently just met Kirrahe on Virmire) and I miss a lot.

Most of all I miss having Wrex in the squad.  I miss the exploration of planets, the unique sidequests, the Mako, the strategy (killing enemies on foot to get more XP), the elevator rides, the unique squad banter, and the overall epic feeling ME1 gave you.

The Mako. Exploring planets and feeling like an actual sci-fi adventurer was the main draw for me, cover-based third person shooting was not

Some semblance of non-linear story progression.

Yeah, I miss having a story that made sense and was satisying.

Also miss driving the Mako

 -exploration and planetary atmospheres
-Mods:weapons and armor
-ARMOR!
-no ammo clips
-epic feel of story
-mysterious scary reapers
-squadmates(except Kaiden)
-BEING A FN SPECTRE(that sure got swept under the rug pretty quickly)
-epic end mission, end cutscenes and end music

I also miss feeling like a total bad ass in combat. Sure the close quarters combat in ME sucked but in the open, I could throw on barrier, put enemy A in stasis, throw close-quarters enemy B, lift heavy enemy C, and right when enemy A gets out of stasis... blast his ass with carnage.

Instead, due to the universal cool down, all I do is spam pull then slam, pull then slam,  pull then slam. The sequels were spam fests, little to no strategy involved at all. In the sequels you needed cover so it became a generic cover and shoot game. In ME, I didn't have to stick to cover because I could kick ass in the open. Goodness, it's amazing what this series could have been compared to what it ended up being. I hope Bioware knows the ME series had great potential to be the greatest game series of ALL TIME. Of ALL TIME. :crying:

- The Mako
- Exploration
- Virmire is still one of my favorite parts of the Mass Effect series. It's when I fell in love with the game.
- Wrex. Just... Wrex.
- The scale of the Citadel
- Abilities having individual cooldowns. I liked being able to put up Barrier, then use different attacks to wipe out the enemies. In ME2 I felt like barrier became completely useless, as it's sharing with other abilities just made it get in the way.

Things I didn't miss:
- The Mako
- Elevators
- The squad just sort of sitting around doing nothing. ME2 had the same problem, but at least there were a few random conversations here and there as opposed to... nothing.
- The combat and cover system. It was just a pain, really.

Well I miss the dialogue wheel and have the ability to sculpt the characterisation of Shep(which also existed in ME2). ME3 unfortunately removed it and went with a terrible canon auto-shep.

- Matriarch Benezia (of course)
- MY femshep
- Exploration / Citadel / Planets / Find 'treasures'

I miss having a long, interesting and involving conversation with each character after every priority mission.

Sure, some conversations were limited (such as with Liara/Tali) but Garrus, Wrex, Ashley and kaiden got some interesting stories and dialogue about themselves. I miss that from ME3 - in the few conversations you have everybody is focused on one thing, the reapers.

Saren and Sovereign, partners in crime.
The Mako.
Choosing my squadmates armour.
Exploration.
Enemies that move around and flank you etc. rather than the current lot who usually walk slowly towards you or hide behind a crate/box/barricade.
My Colossus X Armour.
The possiblities....

The sense of scale. Mass Effect 3 may have had much more substance to it, but Mass Effect1 just "feels" like a much larger game, and i can't quite put my finger on the reason why.

Very little to be honest. I enjoyed it at the time but I think ME2 and ME3 were much better (in spite of the ending).

Poignancy and attention to detail.

The constant and numerous ret-conning that the franchise has gone through really, really turns me off.

And you do, of course, have records to show that it is the same individuals in both cases?

I might quantise people into, say, four groups:

 1. "I like feature X."
 2. "Feature X is neat in concept, but could really do with better implementation."
 3. "Feature X is awful, but I'm not impossible - prove me wrong - not gonna happen, but I dare you!"
 4. "Feature X is atrocious, irredeemable."

Can you show me any number of people from group 3 or 4, who have switched to 1 or 2?

From Mass Effect 1, I really miss stepping out of the Mako and being on a planet that really seemed like a completely alien world. Whether it be a hostile environment or just simply serene and beautiful...I loved doing all the side quests just to land on another beautifully rendered world.

I miss Wrex as a squadmate, even if I did kill him off in some of my playthroughs...the ones I didn't, I was really hoping to have him as a squadmate in ME2 and ME3....

And I miss the heavier RPG element that ME1 had throughout...

I miss many of the things everyone else is stating.

Mako, exploratoin, armor, credits, full wheel dialogue, epic story, hateful antagonist...

I'll tell you one thing i miss, it's small but it added to the immersion that was a part of a living breathing world. That is the "Decontamination in progress..."
It's clearly just something they threw in to cover up the load times, but it was creative and made it feel like i was in the world of Mass Effect. It's all the little things like that i miss too.

-exploration (Mako, and on foot - ability to holster a weapon and just explore like in rpg game).
-inventory
-Saren - "awesome" villain
-satisfying ending
-hub worlds other than Citadel
